Upgrade to Windows 10?

I'm using the tool someone posted earlier to update but it's default to Hebrew, even tho my Windows is in English

I can't seem to change the language and it tells me I can't upgrade with my applications because I chose to upgrade to Windows in a different language. Is there anyway to fix this?

Successfully upgraded last night using the .exe tool downloaded from their website. Haven't run into any trouble so far. Played Final Fantasy XIV and it ran flawlessly (in fact I could swear it looks slightly better, but that could have been some kind of expectation bias at work). The interface is a huge improvement over the bipolar one from 8.

You're in a world of hurt now. I had the same problem and had to increase a system partition :F in size so that the update would work. Before I could do that, I had to allocate new empty space on my ssd and then move my whole :C partition AFTER the new allocated space. This allows you to then increase the size of :F

You cannot do this operation with the built in win7 partition manager, I had to download specific and exotic software to do this.

Now that the message has cleared, it appears the download for win10 is going extremely slow. I am now downloading the ISO through the MS tool, basically nullyfying the whole partition ordeal, rendering it as a waste of time.

This is the worst bullshit MS has every given us

Welllll shit. Guess I'll be holding off on that upgrade for a bit then. Thanks for the info!

Just some random, off the top of my head advice for newbies wanting to do a clean install:

1. If you would like to bring over everything from your current profile use Windows easy transfer. Just type it into the start menu, select the save to USB option, and select the profiles that you want to save. It's a sweet tool that will bring all your settings and preferences over. Once you're done with the transfer on Windows 10 it will also give you a full list of all the programs you had on your last OS so that its easy to see what you need to redownload.
2. If you want to do the clean install (recommended), you'll need a bootable USB. Just download the Windows 10 ISO from MS and download a tool called Rufus. It will create a bootable USB for you. All you have to do it point it to the ISO. I also recommend downloading all the drivers for your hardware (Video card, chipset, etc).

I'll update if anything else comes to mind

How long does the update usually take to complete? My computer has been like this for about an hour now.

If i download the ISO file from M$ website, i can format the PC like i could do with other Windows?

You need to perform the upgrade one time first to activate the key.

Any installation after that doesn't require any key (can be skipped if asked for) and it will activate automatically when you get into Windows.

So upgrade first, do either a reset from within Windows (I did that and it's pretty much the same as doing a normal clean install) or do a clean install from a DVD/USB.

59 "Upgrade to Windows 10 - Failed" messages in Windows Update

Won't be back home until later tonight so I hope this crap gets straightened out by then

Reinstall drivers and use a clean install on the driver installation.

worked for me earlier when my Nvidia control panel wouldn't open up

Here, I'm quoting the one who helped me.

Nice, thanks, I was having the same issue with the control panel. Will try this as soon as I get home from work.

Can i do the upgrade with the tool that Microsoft has given?

Manually reboot your computer. My installation hung so I waited an hour then rebooted just in case it was stuck processing. It resumed installation just fine afterwards.

Has anyone created a solution to media center for Win 10?

On two of my PCs I use it religioiusly as a DVR/tuner (with a silicondust homerun prime/cable card), netflix plug in and media browser for my blu-ray rips. I think I can work something for bluray rips and netflix (plex or kodi/xbmc).

I think on my gaming PC I can live without the media center functions, but not on the other two.

Wow this still happens? Happened to me with my very first W10 preview build. Waited out as long as you did before deciding to force a restart. It continued normally afterwards.
I see most of these problems are your own. It's most likely something up with your systems.
Or, you know, the brand new and inevitably buggy OS. Shit happens.

I had the same screen during clean install, after one restart I realized that it made my tv (which was turned off) the first monitor lol.

Ha. Exact same thing happened to me. The first "phase" (up to 25% or so) displayed on my monitor. So did the third phase (73%+). But that intermediate phase; inexplicably it made my TV the "main" monitor. For a little while I thought something had crapped out before I realized what was actually going on. Odd.

Ok, after 10 hours to download the tool, now it started and...checking updates.
45 minutes on checking updates, still 13%.
This installation is just horrible (and no, it's not my connection, is not too good, yeah, but I can download 4 gb of data in around 4-5 hours, not 10).

expect it to be a problem server side because of windows 10 upgraders influx.

Chill out...Microsoft is trying to not break the internet

They have reserved 40 tbps from cdns...apple will hit 8 tbps at the worse with their big updates so download speed is going to be reduced

Take a deep breath

Yeah, I just restarted, and it still seems like it's hanging. Screen's lit up, but nothing's appeared yet.

Anyone tried a DualShock 4 with the finished release yet?

It's the only thing holding me back so any observations would be very much appreciated. I'm using DS4Windows and there's been lots of talk of "it doesn't work/it works don't worry" so any first hand experience would help me decide if I should wait a while.

I mean I know I should wait anyway, but I'm a sucker for a new OS. ;)

I was really iffy on this as well but decided to bite the bullet and upgraded last night. I tried using the DS4 natively on The Witcher since I heard of the DS4Windows/InputMapper issues and it worked without issue, then I decided to fire up InputMapper and to my surprise I was able to enable exclusive mode to hide the DS4 and all of my custom macros for The Witcher worked without any hints of double-input issues. Not sure if it works out this well for everyone, but it seems problem-free for me.

The only issue I had with the upgrade was needing to perform a clean install of my NVidia drivers, but after doing so I was able to increase my 3DMark FireStrike graphics score from 29294 to 30697 with no flickering/artifacting issues encountered in The Witcher and Dirty Bomb when I tested those last night (limited playtime anyways, but no immediate apparent issues).

It ties the key to your Microsoft account when you first do the update. So you just skip the cd key stuff during the install and log in, then it activates.

What about local accounts, ive never signed into my ms account in win 8.1 pro. How does activation work then?

How does this work if you have multiple computers/keys and use the same account?

Finally installed Windows 10, but I can't open Nvidia Control panel. Also Firefox is really sluggish (youtube videos lag), although Microsoft Edge works perfect, but I want to use Firefox.

so i updated to windows and my wireless speed went from almostflawless 45 mbit to 5-10 with drops like crazy. any tips?

Like all nic issues my recommendation is to go to device manager uninstall the driver and reboot and it will reinstall with newest driver

Bought an SSD for me'laptop, should I upgrade to SSD then move to Windows 10 or move to Windows 10 and then upgrade?

I'm leaning on the former because I need to have made a successful image of Windows 8 and it may come in handy if things go awry.. Of course I have no idea if they let me go back to windows 8 - that license for windows 8 may already be useless for authenticating the windows. Any ideas?

Can i do the upgrade with the tool that Microsoft has given?

Yes, all it does is download and make a bootable USB stick from what I understand. After the tool is done, just go to the USB folder and run the setup. It will then start to unpack it all and restart after a while.

Does the upgrade remove drivers that makes the DS3 work on PC? DS3tool AKA Motioninjoy doesn't seem to detect my DS3 anymore. Will the same procedure for installing DS3 drivers on WIn 8 work on Win 10?

A question: after this "checking updates", I will be able to create an iso, right?
I need to install Win 10 on two other PCs I own, no way I will download the tool again, checking for updates etc.

I would just find an iso someone made...I don't know of a way to make an iso straight but I think there are guides around to make it from the esd
