Upgrade to Windows 10?

Actually unplugged the second screen before starting after reading that elsewhere. Will pop out to the shops and hopefully it's moved by the time I'm back.

Default monitor needs to be plugged into your primary card, which is almost always the top card if you are running multiple GPUs. Happened to me.

anyone else still waiting for their download to activate?

reddit trick doesn't help, don't know what else to do at this point as the .iso doesn't work [8.1 key doesn't accept], and the upgrade option from that same file also just gives me the "something happened" error.

Two of my PCs are ready, but neither was DLing it last night. Is MS staggering it? Can you force an update?

is it standard to get a "failed" result when you click check for updates?

has been doing that for about 2 hours for me. dont really feel the need to force it via a usb key or anything, just curious.

For people having issue upgrading, make sure your reserved partition is about 300-400mb. I had it at 100mb before and the setup refused to work.

Do you have a second screen connected to your PC? If so, try turning it on to see if it changed the default monitor.

If not, I've seen people talking about waiting an hour and rebooting, and it was fine.

As I said in my previus post, I can vouch that waiting a while and restarting works.

Edit: Fuck. When I updated from the Preview RTM build it ate my lovely Majora's Mask background, it was so nice. Think a gaffer made it, it was official art upscaled to 1080p and it was gorgeous.

Yes, I had about five of those before I cleaned out the downloads folder once more, and did the command prompt again.

If you sign in with your Outlook/Hotmail/MSN account it restores your background... at least it did for me.

As much as I want a new OS, I am going to wait and recommend others do as well. I skipped ME,Vista,8. As MS usually has a dud OS then a good OS. If history is an indicator Windows 10 will eventually become the Windows 2000, WindowsXP, Windows 7 good/stable. It is a good idea to wait until at least 6 months to a year before jumping in a new MS OS anyhow.

I jumped in Windows 7 early in its release and I could lock up Windows pre SP1 on any machine I got on. There was some sort of bug where if you hid the Taskbar and let the computer sleep it would return from sleep but the cursor wouldn't move and no response from the keyboard. I even opened a support ticket with MS, they didn't seem to care as it wasn't fixed until SP1. I went to an MS retail store and had some fun with the bug. Anyhow, I am sure there will be other quirky and somewhat major issues with Windows 10. It will take a SP to clear it up. Just like 2k and XP.

There are other problems too, drivers for older hardware, software compatibility and so on. To save myself a headache, I will not be upgrading soon. Good luck to those who choose to.

Really want to upgrade as everything sounds freaking great, but I always like to wait on new releases. Let any kinks get ironed out.

This entire process has been really frustrating. The 5GB folder that occupied itself on my C drive has disappeared. Although my drive space still seemed to imply that it existed somewhere, that allocated space has disappeared now. No matter how many times I try searching for the Windows 10 update (since it never even installed) it never detects it. It used to tell me that the update would fail but now it pretends as if everything is okay and it doesn't exist. Not sure what to do about that.

Are there any downsides what-so-ever to using the manual update option that's been linked? I just want the most hands-free way of transitioning without jeopardizing anything.

Any word on tablet performance? Specifically Stream 7 8)

I tried the preview and it was a bit of a mess. Xbox streaming worked well though.

I saved a screenshot in Solitaire, but I don't see it showing up on my Xbox One activity feed. An achievement did, however. Should screenshots/video captures from Windows 10 games be appearing for my friends to see on Xbox One?

Thanks.

so guys do you have to manually install 10 or will it just update to 10 theough windows update... i would raher wait a week or so once all the bullshit gets fixed???

Trying to get everything set up the way I like it, so far, speed of everything is a nice boost from 8.1, wish there was a way to pin programs, etc to start under my name....

This is a sexy OS.

I'm loving the dark theme, even Edge has a dark theme. Screw white on computers, everything should be black.

So I did all of my optional updates. Still nothing for Windows 10. Am I missing something? Where can I search for it? I did reserve it.

Thanks!

for the people using windows 10, where you guys able to get chipset/display drivers for windows 10 specifically or did you use windows 8/7 drivers?

Didn't seem like I needed to install those drivers, but I did grab and install W10 drivers from manufacturer's site.
For a reason I still don't understand, my CPU is stuck at 109% frequency since I updated to W10.

Check out Power Options > Advanced Settings and make sure your Minimum Processor State is not at 100%. If it is, set it to 5%.
