Upgrade to Windows 10?

If edge had the option to bing/google highlighted text n a new tab I think I'd make it my main browser.

But I can't live without that feature so they've lost me.

can I download win 10 for my main PC with my laptop, which isn't qualified for win 10?

took my laptop to a fast inet connection and am trying to download it with the media creation tool, but the download just won't start..

Going back to win7, I really hope my games don't stutter still. Win10 seems nice and all, but if I can't play games on it there is no point in sticking with it.

Best feature was the virtual desktops.

Edit: That was so fast, and I've never been so happy to see that old Windows 7 Startup load before. Everything is back to normal it seems. No lag freezing stutter. Oh my goodness, so happy right now.

(Hisses at Windows 10)

Being able to go back to the previous OS should be a feature not a limited privilege.

You mean like this?

Clicking any of the links will then open a new tab.

How can I make this bigger?

In windows 8.1 I had an option for the metro size, but I can only find the DPI settings in 10 and it is already set to 125%. :(

Got Windows 10 installed last night and everything runs great. I only ran into issues while trying to stream some Xbox games. I was getting some serious lag and the stream crashed a few times before I gave up.

When I checked network settings on my Xbox I noticed way more routers in my area than before. I may have to switch to 5.0Ghz to get a better connection. Other than that though, everything has been awesome.

Wired is the only way to go when it comes to streaming xbox to pc.

Just upgraded my old mostly unused windows 7 laptop to 10. Good riddance. After using 8.1 and 10 years now, 7 felt like bloated, slow antiquated crap and i don't want to never go back to it. And that was almost fresh install. The upgrade also sped up the old pc nicely, even with only 2Gb ram.

Installed Windows 10 on my laptop, sound isn't working at all anymore. Restarted the system, now I just updated the drivers for my sound devices, still nothing.

One of the fixes for that issue during Preview was to change sound output frequency to stereo, 24 bit 44100 Hz and it usually solved this issue for people. Done sound drivers (especially ones from Creative) still do not support Win10 fully

It doesn't appear that I can change it from 24 bit 48000 Hz. The entry box is grayed out.

it's got much bigger issues than that.

every third webpage has something it can't display, or something that causes it to crash, or something which makes it run slow / become unresponsive.

it's sexy guys, but it's still shit [so far].

It looks like something called "SPD Interface" receives the audio test perfectly fine, but I've never heard of it before, and I don't hear it now.

It was disabled by default, however.

So I did the update and now I'm getting a srttrail.txt error. My computer is now stuck in a restart, auto repair fail, restart loop. Is there anything I can do or am I fucked?

Everything was fine up until yesterday at about 7pm centeral US time. I was playing a game with no problem, then suddenly that game started to stutter when I moved the character, a bad stutter too. I thought it must have loaded a zone badly so I restarted the game and it was still the same. Then I tried other games like Crysis 2 which runs like nothing on my machine but it too stuttered badly when I turn the camera. Dragon Age Inquisition also but it's not as bad.

Games are unplayable now and I may try going back to windows 7. I shouldn't have upgraded but hopefully it'll end up going back to normal the way that it suddenly started.

No temperatures are out of normal.

Opened the case and nothing looked like it had a lot of dust on them or was moved/had something spilled on it.

Tried installing new drivers, installing old drivers (old Nvidia drivers don't seem to work on W10 at all).

I put everything to normal clocks, very low settings, still stutter.

Man I'm so happy right now.

I have a very basic system with nothing special and I see a studder with Left 4 Dead 2 via Steam but only after the game starts a new level for a few minutes.

This must be a little bit of a nightmare for driver / game providers... no?

Practically EVERYONE is jumping on W10 at once... and screaming for their stuff to work on this new OS.

That's why Microsoft gives all these companies and developers early access. tech previews have been available for over 6 months. Plenty of time for developers to figure things out. Look at Chrome, 1 billion users, nobody reporting any issues that I can see.

The replies to my last post in the thread make me disappointed for the users of this board. When did privacy become something to laugh about?

There's also the new adage of free software being that the product is no longer the product, YOU are the product. And what if I don't like being sold like that? The fact that you can't disable some reporting unless you have Enterprise edition is just infringement of private rights. I know I can choose not to use it, and go Linux, but the support for that is threadbare at best, though it is improving over time.

For now, I'll just stick with 7 and wait to see how 10 turns out.

Just noticed Zone Alarm isn't working after the upgrade and I'm unable to uninstall (the installer is confused about the OS). Had to send an email to them. Thankfully windows firewall was switched on by default so no biggie.

Bootcamp here, and I'm having some big issues with my drivers (upgrading from Win 7).
I lost my trackpad rightclick and it doesn't detect my thunderbolt display monitor.

It seems all drivers for my laptop are generic, and my Bootcamp Control doesn't open.

Curious. I upgrade my Win 7 install on my 2009 13" MBP using Bootcamp 4.something without a hitch. I still have access to the Bootcamp app. My tap to click on the trackpad works, as does my two finger right click.

Welp, I'm officially stuffed GAF. I've tried every method known to man to get this thing running but it always hangs at 22% copied files and 6% overall. I am exhausted by this shit.

Had a similiar problem, made an usb stick with win 10 and then it worked

I upgraded my laptop last night and have a few questions for you tech savvy folks.

Is the game streaming as useless as I think it is? Can I play a game while my xbox is off?

What do I need to connect my controller to my laptop? Will a USB cord suffice? Or do I need to buy something that's more practical?

10 didnt work for me on a new asus and on the surface pro 2- both machines it blew away network drivers. The surface youd think would work 100% since ya know......THEY MAKE IT.

Finally fixed my problem with editing folder contents. I really wish Windows 10 didn't have all these weird permission settings...or at least just copied whatever you had from 7. Totally uncessary and I hope I don't have steam, ffxiv update, or gog issues later.

Okay so I attempted to download the update. My computer restarted and once the download was complete I was stuck on a black screen with my mouse pointer. I did ctrl alt del and managed to get out of it but when the screen came back it was still Windows 8.

Any idea of what my problem might be?

Anyone having trouble RDPing from a Windows 10 to a Windows 7 box? I use Windows 7 at work, and after upgrading to Windows 10, I can't RDP into my work machine. We use SonicWALL NetExtender VPN, which I upgraded to the latest version. I can connect over the VPN, or at least SonicWALL claims to have made a successful connection, and I can ping the machine so I know it can see the machine I'm trying to RDP into. But the remote desktop connection fails. I confirmed that it still works from 7 -> 7, so this is something specific to 10.

I've tried all of them. Direct through both media and Windows Update, ISO, USB, all of them. The closest I've gotten to Windows 10 is 8%.

Are you using the ISO image on your USB? If so, consider a corrupt download. If you have used fresh images, you may be faced with a hard disk writing error. Have you noticed strange behavior from that hard disk before? Is it an SSD?
