US Tarrif's Will Exempt Phones, GPUs, SSDs, servers, and ICs - Even Those Made in China

"If you buy a cluster of PS2's one could design a missile launch system" was once a tarrif on playstation if I remember correctly. Sony had used to battle Britain about it with their PS2's linux ability.

I think this was the reason linux on PS3 did not access the GPU.

I guess Americans forgot about the whole "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety".

Can you explain how you think that quote applies here?

I assume you mean that imposing tariffs on foreign goods, in attempt to boost domestic profits, prioritizes safety over liberty. But then why would you be upset with those tariffs being walked back?

Doubtful since Apple's Power Mac G4's had similar floating point performance they weren't subject to additional tariff's. Linux not having access to the PS3's GPU was so you couldn't port and release games through it, OtherOS was mainly about having consumer access to the Cell SPU's.

Sony, just do what u did with PS3. Include install other OS (raw BSD distro) and call it a computer. :D

Edit: and watch PS5 hacked to pieces.

I am sorry i didn't quote the person i was talking about my bad. It was about how our borders are secure etc etc while the conversation was about destroying the rule of law.

Haha guys remember how we said US doesn't need China? That was a pretty sweet joke, right?
It's not about needing china, everyone will admit we need them, but it's about how long will this dependency last? and can the USA diversify away. Vietnam and Cambodia are now taking chinese jobs so the change is coming, in 30 years we let china grow to much, and if or if it isn't slave labor only the future can tell. Would be surprising if some day people see the way we accepted china making most of our stuff like how black people were used to pick cotton. There is morality to take in account.

China should just add the tarrifs on exports.

Fairly confident that when this term is investigated Trump and/or his chronies have made a lot of money from these tarrifs and market crashes.

This was always to open negotiations to get better trade deals. It's only the left that conveniently fail to see this. Nor suggesting for one second this will work. But the reasons are the reasons.

He is a dumbass who has no idea how anything works, there were never going to be deals. As evidenced by the constant backtracking when he nearly tanked the bond market. You need to get a wake up call and stop cheerleading right vs left. It's idiotic, your "team mate" is destroying your country, check out the dollar vs euro.

I just don't think he renegotiated with anyone or actually got better trade deals, other than minor changes like 1.5 percent tariffs to 0. I think, personally, it was just one part market manipulation and one part smoke and mirrors to claim fake victories. Just like his buddy Elon who, as far as I know, not found a single instance of fraud with his DOGE team.

Howard Lutnick (Commerce Secretary) just now on This Week with George Stephanopoulos saying these exemptions are only temporary because they're going to be replaced with more industry-specific tariffs on chips, t.v.'s, smartphones, and other electronics in a month or two.

Keep on with your Trump derangement syndrome. Like I said I was only suggesting reasons. Not that I agreed with them, or they would work.

I'm sure Nintendo's and Sony's US lawyers are taking a very close look whether there's any way to classify consoles as computers.

So basically no fraud as far as you know. Sounds totally reasonable. By the way I only stated the reasons. Not that I thought it would work or agreed with it. Classic case of don't shoot the messenger. ;)

At best, this tariff game to bring back industry to the US will fail simply because the rich in America are grossly miscalculating the poor's willingness to put in the work the rest of the world does for you. At worst, the people in government are manipulating the markets for their own personal gain and you applaud.

What a time to be alive!

Good, you don't know what Irony is either.
You are very angry for some reason. Ever thought of not letting political figures upset you so much. All these politicians are corrupt and do not care about you. Other than getting your vote that is. Just different flavors of propaganda... choose your favorite.

Why do you think folks are upset? Surely it cannot be that it affects their livelihoods can it?

I know, not shooting anything back your way, just throwing out my thoughts on the whole thing. I think there's lots of mismanagement and fraud in government. I don't think Elon has found any, I don't think he's saving the government money and is, in fact, costing it money, and I think he's just using the position in a corrupt way to funnel data, money, contracts, favours, what have you all his way.

Like I said before the tariffs are just a bluff to renegotiate and it worked for the majority. What we had created before was unsustainable .

There was NO renegotiation... He BLINKED!

And what are you talking about "before was unsustainable"?

You're not making sense, bruv

And now that the news and online sentiment is saying he blinked and backed down, his ego is hurt and he's back on his bullshit with creating more uncertainty and weakening our economy AGAIN.
