I will say in his defense and to Kaine's detriment, if you're going to use numbers you need to be able to explain them. "Statistics" aren't a slam-dunk, numbers can be made to lie or to fit your point, and Kaine needs to do a better job explaining why certain numbers matter.

Whether we like it or not, people are often going to vote on their feelings. If you throw out job recovery numbers, someone at home is probably sitting at home wondering "yeah, but I don't feel that recovery in my wallet/home/town/etc," and you have to speak to them.
