Users and their Avatars

I am never happy with my avatar, I'm the sort of person that gets the itch to change it every two months but I try to resist it because gaffers use avatars to identify people and on the off chance someone wants to find me, well...

lawd do I miss that. PinkoMarx should have been given special exemption from the no .gifs in avis rule.

One person did, he had a spinning maple leaf avatar and tag that said "A child left behind" or something like that. Can't remember his name.

I remember that one, though not the user. PantherLotus' avatar was also good, as was the person who had that girl jumping over the rainbow. Those four all should have been allowed refuge.

Glad the rest went, though. People with .gif avatars that didn't loop cleanly did my head in.

I really don't know what to think about my little pony avatars.

If I see a female avatar I automatically assume the poster is male. Other than that I don't even bother guessing or care unless the topic is somehow gender related.

You would judge a book by it's cover? Read the words that they post and judge them on that.

First post nails it. Mine is usually satirical, so i guess that says something. Also I turn them off because they aren't worth the screen space, bandwidth, and eye processing.

If someone has an avatar with a really punchable face I get a little irritated. If your avatar is something that I like I feel slightly more connected because "hey. You and me, we, you know, get that".

If avatar is male, probably a guy
If avatar is female, definitely a guy

cause hey dude, we're all dudes here dude.

irony is I picked this avatar to avoid being judged

I think avatars speak of a person's interests or sense of humour. Sometimes I imagine the avatar as the one speaking, helps me remember who wrote what.

If your avatar isn't your real face I just assume you are trying to hide something.

Dennis, "you're in carcosa now"

I always remember your avatar because of your obsession with the show. The face just seems to be a person who can't stop thinking along the line of Rustin Cohle.

My avatar is my Mii it looks as close to the real me as i could make the Mii, i have added the current systems i have (cannot fit all the retro ones on there though) i also have the HeForShe logo as i support gender equality (especially in gaming).

On a male dominated sites like NeoGAF I operate under the assumption that every poster is male until I read otherwise. Though sometimes I guessed correctly based on usernames, but avatars are a different beast.

Real face avatars are super creepy and i avoid those posters.

She's not on GAF but I banged her so I guess she's a part of me. Plus I find the picture amusing even if I don't notice it anymore.

It's my cat.

I couldn't think of anything else so I took a random picture of my cat from my computer and used it.

I think judging by avatars can sometimes have merit because yes, some people do actually put effort into using something that has meaning to them. But sometimes people just use a picture of their cat because idk, can't think of anything else, or use a picture they found in 5 seconds because it was funny, or just used the first thing that came to mind, ect.
