Uwe Boll: Man, Myth, Legend

Patrick Klepek

Yeah, so, the infamous interview/feature with Mr. (sorry, Dr.) Uwe Boll I talked about a few weeks ago has showed its face. A couple of your questions actually did make it in, though I wasn't able to include the entire interview in the feature. I'll be pasting the deleted fun onto my blog and shit like that, so stay tuned...

P.S. Make sure to check out the last question about Uweboll.com...

Some choice quotes :lol

"I would be a liar if said I was happy about those [upset] reviews or happy about those Internet voices because I'm checking this out," he says. "There's a little overacting on a few message boards about it, and on the other hand, it could be worse. [laughs]"
I'm still happy with Alone in the Dark. I think the only weak part in Alone in the Dark is maybe Tara Reid's acting.
I contacted, for example, with Hunter: The Reckoning, I contacted Whitewolf, and I talked with Eidos about Hitman actually, and then they came up with Fear Effect. Then I bought Fear Effect, and then they showed Hitman to Fox's assholes. [laughs]

Clearly, this man does not perceive reality the same way as the rest of us do.

Very interesting article, hahahaha.

But man, he's totally nuts. Your introduction should have said that.

Here's the thing. I'm not really happy with it, and I think if you compare Alone in the Dark with some action or sci-fi movies made, I don't see that this movie is less quality as Aliens vs. Predator, for example. I'm always open to discuss it point by point ands scene by scene, and people who did the CGI on Alone in the Dark, they worked for over a year and [are] the same people who did Fight Club and Panic Room and all the David Fincher movies like The Cell, exactly the same people. To say this is a completely crappy creature, they should show me frame by frame and we compare it to other movies made.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Insane.

1UP: When you prepared to start shooting and thinking about the story and casting, are you playing the game?

Yeah, absolutely. It's part of the preparation, it's reading those character books...we're shooting again, can you wait one second? [Arrows firing in background, swords clashing, lots of loud noises...Boll yells "CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT."] So, I'm back. Yeah, for the preparation, talking with the game company talking with the creators is very important.

LMFAO

He likes bashing the game companies for the lack of success for the films.

Was it Sega's idea to put game footage in House of the Dead or his?

his if I remember correctly. I actually watched the behind the scene's footige on that dvd.

I'm a glutton for punishment.

Nice interview. I really thinks that Dr. Boll is putting way too much responsability on Sega or Atari for how shitty Alone In The Dark and House Of The Dead came off. At least he admits that some stuff (like House Of The Dead script) was mediocre. I love the part where he says that Tara Reid acting is not very good.

You REALLY got to work on all those grammatical errors, though. There's a shitload of them in the text.

I'm quite happy with it, script and everything
I wonder how Boll will spin this once the film comes out and the hatin' beings. Apparently a miniature press preview that was held recently didn't go over too well.

You could have spared your article for the " Ed Wood of video game movies " though. That`s very unprofessional and insulting, imo.

I dunno, it's kind of a back-handed compliment, imo.

he wanted to do silent hill. The bastard.

It's like this, the guy doesn't get bothered by anything and for some reason whether he gets money from his resources he's going to grab every fucking video game license and try to turn it into a movie, which surprises me that he didn't get halo yet. I swear this guy isn't there, or he is more than we know it. He's obviously never going to get mad at fan reactions, it's pretty obvious it amuses him.

or he's just a delirous fucking idiot who thinks he's hip by doing nude scenes in stuff like bloodrayne.

it looks like his reign of terror won't stop anytime soon. it's just a good cashcow for him to develop these projects.

He wanted to do Silent Hill?! That's like the few video game to movie adaptation that really has a chance to be good right now! Is there nothing this man won't try to get?!!

Nah, we were talking on the phone and he was on the set of Dungeon Siege during the interview. We were originally supposed to talk during his lunch break, but the shooting schedule that day didn't allow it, so he was drifting in and out between 'directing' and answering my questions thorughout the interview. It was pretty awesome, culminating in me hearing Boll yell "CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT" into the phone during one moment. :lol

You guys really need to hear it to appreciate it. I'm trying to make an MP3 out of it (I just found the tape), but the tape is kind of mangled. Here's to hoping.

I like Uwe's idea that on a frame by frame basis, his movies are as good as other people's. That's like me comparing my comedy routine to Richard Pryor's by comparing individual syllables.

Not that I have a comedy routine, but if I did, my "aah" would be fuckin' rockin.

"Make wiss za face actingz."

yeah, i'm amazed that you can understand a damn word the man is saying. He's more diabolical villain than man.

You know, paying this guy attention in the media sure as hell isn't going to help make him go away any faster.

What you first realize when talking to Boll is that he isn't stupid. He knows how to use the Internet, he browses popular game and film websites, reads message board threads about his films, and knows what people are bitching about.
Since when did being able to use the Internet make someone smart?

Fucking Boll better not fucking TOUCH Hitman.

Wah wah wah.

The Boll bashing is getting really tired now. He`s gonna continue making movies. His movies are making money. Don`t like it, don`t watch his movies. It`s pretty simple.

There's an acute difference between not watching his movies and not wanting him to touch a beloved IP/franchise. It's comparable to the difference between not listening to Limp Bizkit because they suck ass and not wanting Limp Bizkit to do a cover a song by your favorite band because they suck ass and would taint something you hold dear.

Dude. They're empirically, demonstrably, horribly bad. I have no axe to grind with Mr. Boll, I have watched all of his movies so far, and they are tragically shit. That is a fact. I still can't tell if you're kidding or not.

They're really, really, really bad.

So just for the sake of argument and comparison, what's your favorite non-Boll movie?

And how is Emmerich am Rhein anyway?

He's not touching Hitman. The guy producing it is the producer of SpyHunter (John Woo directing) and he's a smart guy. You can all relax ;-)

Well there you have it. Kind of puts things in a more, uh...complete...frame of reference.

I had stopped believe in the mythic Boll-lovers after I saw their existence debunked on Snopes.com. You've given us all hope to believe in the impossible! ;)

P.s. Just a Robocop fan or a Verhoeven fan?

Gregory said:
Emmerich am Rhein ? I`m not German. Wouldn`t know.

Robocop.

See, this is what's weird about Gregory. Robocop is a great movie. So he likes great movies too. He also has perfectly normal taste in games. It's just the Boll thing.

It's still pretty awesome. Alone in the Dark is an awesome, awesome bad movie.

Alone in the dark just didnt make me laugh as much as hotd.

hotd was just bad movie brilliance. The perfect balance of bad and good bad.

I'm by no means a Boll fan, but I haven't thought his movies have been horrible. Alone in the Dark was pretty sucky, but not the worst thing I've ever seen. And I actually enjoyed House of the Dead. So.. yeah. :lol

Dungeon Seige.

# Jason Statham (Farmer)
# Ron Perlman (Norick)
# Burt Reynolds (King Konreid)
# John Rhys-Davies (Merrick)
# Kristanna Loken (Elora)
# Matthew Lillard (Duke Fallow)
# Ray Liotta (Gallian)

How the fuck did he manage that?

:lol
