This track always cheers me up, the video is cheesy as hell tho (Peter Jackson & The Hobbit)

The track above I mean, damn formatting on mobile!

State of Independence also really worth a mention, even better in the Donna Summer version btw

I know a lot of people didn't like this movie, but it has one of the greatest (and most historically accurate) battle scenes in the history of cinema. Of course, it's Vangelis' amazing music that really brings it alive!

The Cosmos soundtrack had so many classic Vangelis songs. And there wasn't a science documentary in the 70ies or 80ies that didn't use Spiral as background mussic.

Mentioned this before, but wanted to post it too, just because it's one of the craziest, but most succesful cover versions ever. Jon & Vangelis were basically an experimental, prog rock/synth project, probably known to Donna Summer through her connection to Giorgo Moroder. She and Quincy Jones took this somewhat contrived and cerebral track, and made it into a super cool soul/funk type track complete with gospel choir etc, but without sacrificing the unique original composition

State of independence (original)

State of independence (Donna Summer version, produced by Quincy Jones)

Summer's version is notable for its all-star choir which included Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Brenda Russell, Christopher Cross, Dyan Cannon, James Ingram, Kenny Loggins, Peggy Lipton, Patti Austin, Michael McDonald, and Stevie Wonder.[2]

Brian Eno has described it as "one of the high points of twentieth century art."[citation needed]

so, in honor of the memory of mr Papathanassíou, 'be the sound of higher love today!'

RIP a true legend and visionary. The times I have played this song when arriving to a new country, with foreign landscapes flying past me, are immeasurable.

Everyone should listen to his Alexander soundtrack. its a shame the movie flopped because the soundtrack is arguably the best soundtrack of the 2000s.

Wow, never even heard of this but first track is legit Vangelis through and through.
The main theme is excellent but the war scenes have this rousing orchestral soundtrack that is simply sublime. if you dnot want to watch the movie then watch the persia and india battle scenes. Oliver Stone screwed up the movie, but man he directed the shit out of those massive war scenes.

This song as well

If the bear market doesn't erase all my wealth I will go there in the next five years, listening to this track.

He has made some incredible music. The Blade Runner soundtrack is one of my favorite albums. Farewell Vangelis.
