vg247-PS4: new kits shipping now, AMD A10 used as base, final version next summer

my friend was saying that uncharted 4 development is going to start soon for next gen

His couzin had done some outsourcing work for uncharted 3 and is currently working on few stuff on a new game from sledge hammer and uc4

dont know how true is this but he will get more info in dec

Starting soon? I thought they would be half done by now, so they can release it at launch of PS4. I won´t believe that they were sitting on their ass for a year without doing anything.

Edit: I read your clarification.

Honestly as long as it's less than $499 I'll probably get it day 1 since that's still less than what I paid for a PS3 in 2008.

Let's have a gentlemen's bet that one of the next gen+ consoles will come with a monthly tie in.

£20 two year contract with £49 console.

20*24= £480.

this feels true.

you have my axe.

I think that's highly likely as well. Not sure if Sony will do it but I'm expecting Microsoft to explore several alternate payment options.

I think releasing a huge, blockbuster type game like Uncharted 4 at launch would be dumb. It needs a solid user base so it can sell well. Then again Sony will probably need a killer app at launch if they're gonna miss the holidays and launch in early 2014.

Both the Xbox World and PSM articles are just collections of rumors we've been discussing for months now. No new info in either.

The most common rumors seem to expect the PS4 to be more powerful but the 360 will have a lot more connectivity and app features. I think it'll be pretty close but only time will tell.

The 360 rumors seem to be harder to pin down since it's flopped between x86 and PowerPC cores for one... let's not even get started on the dual sku and input device rumors... it's a hot mess of contradictions to say the least. The PS4 rumors have been consistent.

I think they'll have a new IP at launch from Sucker Punch or Ready at Dawn, KZ4 shortly after (Sony always seems to have a bigger title around summer), and Uncharted 4 for the first holiday.

Sony will just pull another E3 2011 and steal the thunder from Nintendo. $350, forcing a Wii U price drop and loyal customers get 10 GameCube games for free.

No. Releasing U4 would be brilliant idea since it will entice plenty of people to buy the system. You have to remember that GG (2 teams), PD, SP, MM, SMS, and ND team are most likely working on PS4 games.

This.

Sony really needs to get on top of it instead of following the leader too little too late. Alternate payment schemes could ensure rapid sales despite a high retail price. Then again, as aforementioned for the millionth time, the dinosaur of a corporate structure that Sony can be slow to react and then act to its own detriment.

UC4 would be a great game to have for the first holiday season after launch. Naughty Dog just released UC3 last year, so if PS4 launches in fall of 2013 that's two years dev time.

Normally the transition to next-gen requires an extra year, so I don't expect UC4 until 2014.

Guerilla Games may be able to swing a fall release. Killzone 3 released in March of 2011. Releasing in fall of 2013 would give them 2.5 years of dev time.

A super polished FPS at launch may be what PS4 needs, followed by Sucker Punch in summer 2014, Naughty Dog / Polyphony Digital / Media Molecule in Fall of 2014, and Sony Santa Monica Spring 2015.

And that's not even including Evolution Studios or Ready at Dawn (do they still work with Sony or do they have another publisher?)

Ready at Dawn is still working with Sony (they're in the same building as SSM) and is confirmed to be doing a new IP for next gen. I think Sucker Punch, MM, SSM, and Guerrilla are all also working on new IPs.

If the PS4 launches in fall next year I could see a new IP for launch, KZ4 in March, another new IP in summer, and Uncharted in fall 2014.

Vita was $250? 3DS was $250? People predicted it was going to cost in the $400 range.

I thought you were talking about the Wii U sorry.

But on to that I think there are differences between Vita and PS4, the Vita is selling at a loss for 3 years, so if Sony wants to make profit with the PS4 by day 1 Sony can't sell the PS4 at a loss.

But Jack said the PS3 was just hitting its stride! Anyways.. Do we think the final console will be an actual x86 pc? Wouldnt going with x86 making it easier for piracy?

I would say Sony has been pretty experimental with new business models lately, perhaps more than its competitors. Faster embrace of F2P games, yopo models, content-as-a-service models (PS+), device-agnostic platform development etc. Big investment in cloud.

I think when you are an underdog in certain areas you might be more open to new ideas. I think Sony is in a fairly open-minded place right now.

seriously? I thought they wanted to get into multiplatform development?

I hope they continue to open up PSN. Lower patch costs, significantly sped up certification, and allowing F2P would be a huge boon to third party support on the system, especially from indies.

Sony easily makes the money back on memory cards. Sony could lose ~$100 on each PS4 and gain it back on first party titles.

That's a good point. We haven't heard ANYTHING from Ready at Dawn. Their last game was released in Nov. 2010.

They will have a full three year dev cycle if they launch in fall 2013.

I hope they are working on PS4. You would think that if they weren't still working for Sony, and found a third party publisher, that their game would be known by now. But it's been kept under wraps.

Curious to see what they come up with.

Nov '13 in at least one territory and $399/399 euro/£349. Probably a higher priced SKU and maybe a monthly plan one too.

I doubt they will get it out next year. November 2013 for the next Xbox and Feb/March 2014 for PS4 (With a real world wide release this time). As for ptice... I'm tempted to go $399 and $499.

No. It takes 3 years to recoup the whole investment including R&D.

I agree with this. Bigger hardrive much bigger price lol. I wonder how much MS and Sony make profit per machine because of the high profits on these HD.

They've wanted to make a new IP for years. After they made the first PSP GoW they sent their PSP dev kits back and then tried to get their new IP picked up. No one bit so they went back and made another PSP GoW. So it looks like Sony decided to fund their new IP.

That's what I'm assuming.

There was an article posted earlier this year citing that they were hiring for next-gen development on a new console.

Note that the latter word was not plural, indicating that it's an exclusive. If they truly are in the same building as Sony Santa Monica, then there can be a lot of good collaborative cross-talk between studios.

Imagine if Ready at Dawn had a God of War killer ready for PS4 launch? Seems plausible.

Still bumbed SSM didn't just let Ready at Dawn make a GOW ps3 game and free up the actual GOW team to do something new.

The new god of war being another prequel would have been right in Ready at Dawns wheelhouse as well.

Start soon? I assumed their other team would be busy at it since UC3. But maybe they're working on something else for launch and the TLOU team will be doing Uncharted?? Or they could have stuck everyone into TLOU, I guess that happens.

Well, we are talking about new hardware. There is some research work to do and a long pre production. PS4 will be probably very different from che "Cell centric" PS3, so also the tech has to be heavily upgraded.

Sony easily makes the money back on memory cards. Sony could lose ~$100 on each PS4 and gain it back on first party titles.

And what if PS4 "flops" again like the PS3 did? I don't think Sony has the economy to sell a console at a loss and then if they are really unlucky the sales won't pick up like PS3. Sonys best interest would be to get a profit or break even with PS4

PS3 sold because it formed a solid library of games and dat ps3 slim was the main catalyst of it reaching 70 million
Yeah if they started working on first party PS4 exclusives years back and have a steady flow from the beginning it would be easy to go 600 again

I guess they could, the price of the Wii U is more on the controller. I don't want the PS4 to be weak, but also don't want it to be so complex it scares away developers.

Not if they have Uncharted 4 for Christmas 2014.
A range of games before to build up a catalogue.

Basically 3DS in Japan situation but at a better price point from launch.

Sony could lose ~$100 on each PS4 and gain it back on first party titles.

Were not talking only making a loss of $100 on the launch console, but all consoles after them (although savings over time); making it difficult to say 'hey were profitable now!'

Games need their own budgets to produce their own profit; they need marketing/development/supply; a lot of money goes into all this.

Also. How much did Sony sell in first party content?
You'll struggle to get 1 per console imo.

$100 is a HUGE amount on each console.
If you could profit $100 on each console that would be MASSIVE.

So:
300,000 launch week in the US! $100 loss each...
Hardware loss of: $30,000,000.

They are not going to make that back.
The insane idea that Sony is a loss leader who'll make loads of money and likes taking risks is a fantasy. Its delusional. They fucked up on a colossal scale with the PS3.

Then maybe ~$50. Sony lost $400 on each 60GB PS3 at launch, and they are still here today.

Next xbox is possibly delayed till 2014 due to parts. I remember hearing that
