VGCats #300. We've hit a legendary milestone in humor.

This is really the ultimate version of the joke. Setup and punchline in one square.

But do we really need a thread of people agreeing that VGCats is bad?

I don't think anyone cares about the actual content of the comics. The rare good comics where the majority of the posters continue to post in the same fashion confirms this.

Did anyone else quit at the DRAMA MISCARRIAGE thing?

I know I did.

I stopped reading CAD long before that. It was on my webcomics bookmark folder for a while, but eventually I realized I wasn't finding anything enjoyable and removed it. VGCats came off because I was tired of waiting for updates, looks like I missed a good portion of bad.

I agree, but did you know the author has Crohn's disease? Poor guy's going through hell and its a damn shame too since he's such an awesome comic artist.

Oh, that's what his condition is.

Poor bloke; a good comic artist, but he's plainly in a lot of pain at the moment.

Just short of #400, too.

I found VG cats a lot funnier 8-ish years ago. I can't tell if the comic has changed or if I've changed. Maybe both.

I think something's wrong with me because I laughed a lot at this one.
I actually thought this was one of the better ones in quite a while, though I haven't even played Mass Effect (I did play the KOTOR games though).

*edit* Actually it's more entertaining given the post right above me.

...what? I'm not even sure what his point is. Is...is is that other RPG's don't try to justify their quests, where Mass Effect does? And this is a negative?

My mind, it's full of fuck

Part of the setup here is that in ME3 you get a lot of quests by eavesdropping instead of getting them directly from people. I'm not sure why Shepard appearing from the bottom panel, grinning, pointing his fingers and then backing away is supposed to be funny though.

Most all Webcomics are mercilessly unfunny. My coworker friend reads most of these and gets mad when I say they are terrible.

No, it's because in ME3 you literally get almost every side quest by creeping/eavesdropping on people in conversations with other people (and won't be able to actually talk to said person until you've completed the quest). Most of the time, you won't even be able to hear the conversation (unless you have subtitles on) and you'll still get the NEW QUEST UNLOCKED notification.

The context of that comic is Shepard overhears a person talking on the citadel, usually to another person, about how they need this specific thing. He comes back later saying "I overheard you saying you need this" which sounds creepy.

I don't get it...

Almost all the Citadel quests in Mass Effect 3 are given by Shepard listening in on someone else's private conversations and then coming back with the thing they wanted without them asking Shepard for it.

The joke is that Shepard comes off like a creepy stalker popping up out of nowhere, listening intently to your phone conversations while standing right next to you, and winking at you as he runs away to solve your problems (or returns to say that he went to an alien planet, found something, and thought of you, some random passerby he spied on).

just realized how stupid this is.

you walk next to someone that talks on the phone, you overhead about something, and you take you spaceship and go planet scanning all over the galaxy.....!
without saying anything to them or asking more information.....

and no review said that this was a negative.

But wait, there's more!

For people who don't get this comic, this is exactly how you're given side quests in ME3. There is no conversation between you and the quest giver. None whatsoever. All you do is overhear someone's stupid phone conversation and then your journal updates itself in the corner of the screen.

I think that's an awesome comic, heh. I laughed at that one.

Most all Webcomics are mercilessly unfunny. My coworker friend reads most of these and gets mad when I say they are terrible.

There are good ones- reMIND, Lackadaisy, The Abominable Charles Christoper, Gunnerkrigg Court ( stick with it; it takes a few chapters before it hits its stride) The Meek (although that one looks like it's on indefinite hiatus due to author illness), Phoenix Requiem, Hark! A Vagrant, Dr. Mcninja for its sheer batshit wackiness...

Interesting, please continue. No need to worry that explaining the joke will ruin it.

I don't know what he means by self-referential humour, but honestly there is NOTHING to get here regarding Shepard's face in the comic. He has a big funny grin... end of story. It's funny just because of how silly his face looks. =/
