Go stand in the corner for 15 minutes and reflect on this atrocity you committed.

Wait, wasn't there a microsoft conference today?
Yup it definitely means just thatI'm not a tech person, but does this mean that Folklore 2 will look super amazing looking on PS4? and will the dual cameras allow me to summon folks and absorb their souls with my hands?

NOJust a bunch of teases and "Your going to be shocked" and what not. I have only heard that the tech demos are pretty spectacular.

Cheaper GDDR5 (they don't need the high end stuff that used for 1500Mhz+) and heats is a huge issue in consoles, look at RRoD and early PS3s. Of course cooling plays into the console size and cost, the less heat there is the less expensive and elaborate the cooling. Compare the heatsink and fans of the first PS3 to the current ones.
Neither MS or Sony want to make another large, loud and hot console that will fail. GDDR5 uses much more power than DDR and thus produces more heat.
i think 256bit GDDR5 with modern 4GB Hynix chips give us this choices
144GB/s or 160GB/s or 176GB/s or 192GB/s or 208GB/s or 224GB/s (for 4.5 / 5 / 5.5 / 6 / 6.5 / 7 Gbps chips)
176GB/s is a coherent possibility

I've heard the same thing really.

176GB/s would still give you access to about 3GB each frame at 60fps
Tech demo part or the we will be shocked part?
Anything else you hear?GDC is just too far away
Yeah as long as you're roughly facing the screen it should work, and if it can't see it will guess from motion sensors alone like move did. Shouldn't be a problem for a less swingable controller.Yes, but I wonder if there'll be a more limited range of angles at which you can hold the controller relative to the cameras before you run into trouble with occlusion etc. With the sphere you could pretty much angle the controller any way you like, except with the ball turned directly away from the camera, I guess.

Not to throw a spanner in the works, but that's still (est) 3 times more than what is available to Durango at 60fps on the DDR3.
I haven't seen this mentioned, if so I apologise.
But, what do we think the likelihood of PS2 backwards compatibility returning with the PS4 is?
PS2 production was officially ended last year and the necessary parts for PS2 emulation surely must be very cheap by now.
I know there is Gaikai, but ideally I'd like to just put in a PS2 disc and it run, though with better emulation options as the PS4 is naturally more powerful than the PS3.
I expect PS1 compatibility to be a given.
So what secret PS4 game is being developed secretly which all the secret insiders know about and it looks secretly awesome?

tech demos are great and all, but I am really hoping they have some games to show off and don't solely rely on flashy tech demos.

Correct.Don't think we're expecting anything about the Nextbox at it. MS has their earnings release today too.

At most, we're looking at a forward looking statement about Durango. And that isn't too far-fetched actually. This is the renaming earnings release for Microsoft before GDC (where things are estimated to really pick up speed), and I think investors are interested to know at least something.Microsoft Hardware Open House & Networking Event - SVC

Any one of those games would do it for me, with the exception of FFvXIII. I want to believe, but SE has really dropped the ball as of late.
Coincidentally, I don't know of any first party Xbox games that were as graphically advanced as Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.
His second point is absolutely false. Console prices are still selling between $199-$299 7+ years after their launch. The PS2 by comparison was $129 at this stage in its life cycle. These claims of doom and gloom in the console space are never backed up with numbers and facts.
For example, console sales between the big 3 have sold significantly more than any other gen before. This gen will have sold 100 million more console units by its end than the PS2 generation.
In short, the console market will be healthy and sales will soar and sustain similarly between years 2-5 like this gen.
it is absolutely the NOT the case. Game companies dont have time ($$$) to optimize fully for several different configurations, otherwise PC games would look crazy good.
Close access to hardware is what makes it possible so cheaper consoles output better graphics.
When is GDC happening again?
The shocked part I am getting is for the games.
The games.
One of my sources is giving me a very distinct feeling that unlike the PS3s reveal we are going to see a lot of actual games running on actual hardware this E3. As vague as they are about "what" specifically is looking incredible. They are pointing me to actual IP that came from the tech demos.
Anything Nomura does for the most part is still exciting to me.
SO when are they showing these "games" and is it sony or MS?
