VGLeaks: Details multiple devkits evolution of Orbis

The earliest dev kit by IGN was rumoured to be Radeon HD7660 and it matches the earliest VGleaks document (18CU). Under what premise do you reckon the GPU was downgraded?
Because they can't target 192GB/s with a 7670...

also how did you even get a match on the 18CU? 7660 does not have 18CU nor does the 7670 nor do they when you add them together.

Oh boy.....things are starting to get crazy. What does it mean!?!?

That you need this

many jobs.

I see what he did there.

Somebody baited him, and he seemed bothered enough:

Actually I'm a Real-time Linux + NVIDIA GPU biased dumbass.

As for the big picture, you are talking about making money on the platform and insuring your investors want to pump money into your company. Something tells me that the big picture for Microsoft aligns well with: (a.) not making a custom OS, it is high cost, (b.) cheaper hardware, don't sell at a loss, (c.) selling a DVR, going after more than just gamers, (d.) focus on the more casual, larger player base, (e.) refresh hardware often, get people to purchase more often, (f.) build a "PC", easier to port games from. Which aligns with my predictions

Summary: MS is building a cheap piece of crap not meant for core gamers.

Sorry, that was 7670 yes, from IGN. Later, VGleaks said it's a custom GPU with 18CU. It looks like that now VGleaks got it right and there has been no indication of a downgrade from what little was divulged.

Yea i'm a little interest bout this too. He has been pretty cool
from what I've seen lately. Unless something happened?
Thuway seems to be kicking up more of a stink about it than anyone else tbh.
True. I have yet to see Karak lord over others with secret information as much as some others.
I don’t think Karak knows what he was talking about any way. I was just curious if something had happened.

The f...!.they bought oculus rift?

Given that they already have a VR product of their own, this would be strange. Still it is possible. And if this is the case, when it is ready, they can have an bundle with the two packed in.

Or it not have to do with Occulus, rather their intention of supporting product like Rift which enable the same functionalities.

Is this guy a pretty reliable guy to interpret the specs? He seems to be slightly down on the Durango...

Can you blame him? Durango does sound like a very weak system totally focused on dvr capabilities if you only hear about 8 jaguar cores, 8GB of ddr3, a esram with only 32mb and a "paltry" 102GB/s of bandwidth, and a gpu seemingly so weak compared to their competitor.

If there were no talks about Ms going for efficiency and hype from people in talks with the devs that's pretty much how everyone would be feeling i guess XD

Oculus Rift for me would be a megaton and a real game changer. I really wish either Sony or MS (preferable both) went for it, or at least similar technology. I know Sony showed something similar to it before.

It would not just serve gaming but also other forms of media. You get that device in every store on a demo, and let people try it and i really believe it could be the next "Wii" type phenomenon. Here you swung your arm to hit a tennis ball, now you are looking 5 time NBA champion Kobe Bryant straight in the 1080p face in NBA 2k14 attempting to drill a shot over him.

If either went that route, you know the slogan and commercials would write themselves, "The Future Is Here", "The Next Leap", "Live in the Game" or something to drum up hype and hysteria

To be fair, he knows very little about Durango. He was basing it mostly on the Eurogamer/DF article.

true, but he's pretty damn down on the it regardless. there's none of that optimism that he gushes with when talking about orbis. very slanted piece to be honest.

Does not Sony have their own VR headset, albeit, not as good as Occulus rift?

indeed they do. I can only assume they've decided to put it on the back-burner or they've finally reached a point where they can showcase it and are using oculus as a way to hype it.

Launch day? That thing is a long way off yet.

you're right, brain fart on my end.

what I think is likely is that sony might debut their vr headset. using the hype created by oculus is the perfect way to build anticipation for such an reveal.

I would imagine Sony will probably just say that Orbis will support 3D headsets in general, allowing themselves and 3rd parties to all work using some kind of open standards.

I tried the Sony 3D headset in a Sony Centre once and it had potential, but to work it needs to be a complete panoramic view, as it was that was just like looking at a 3D screen close up.

He was trolling us indeed.

Looks like he was paying his tribute to Occulus Rift with this little game.

At least we got a thread and a few pages here out of this.
