Many xbox fans were posting 120fps game lists and how ps5 doesn't have and it can not handle 120 fps. Now 120 fps is bad.

My god few weeks DOES change everything 😅😅😅

All I have to say is, we had to put up with the "Series X will be Native 4K 60fps/120FPS vs Dynamic 4K and 30FPS/60FPS on PS5" narrative for far too long and I just hope a certain group of fanboys have been humbled.

It's dynamic res. They just need to scale it more aggressively to keep the frame-rate locked at 120fps.

Not all of us do. Yes XSX is 22% lower than PS5 and its still pretty much performing the same as PS5.

Fair enough. My statement was general consensus of the forum 2 weeks ago .

In general imo:
If xbox knew they have bad api they should have stopped talking about power hence their fans would stop attacking ps5 topics and would not slander ps5 with nonstop down clocking bla bla. The reason I posted that was because of actions of some xbox fans always shitting on ps5 when in fact they were close .otherwise everyone should get what they like .

100%, people need to realize if they want 120fps goodness they need to sacrifice high resolutions. You can't have your cake and eat it too unless you want to fork over big $$$$ for a PC setup.

Activision should be more aggressive in the dynamic resolutions, or just screw it and make it 1080p.; 1080p doesn't look bad on a 4K TV.

If we listen to phil, its about gamepass and Xbox, server and cloud versions - not to optimise 1 console for head to head.

The XSX Silicon is designed primarily around running 4 Xb1s games, the CPU is server class, the layout of the die is around running those 4 games.

If we listen to phil of course.

This is truly the ideal scenario for us all. Don't mock the Xbox power king thread, just change it to Xbox and PS5 Power Kings!

This really is further proof however, that the gimping of next gen games to run on the XSS struggle console goes well beyond simply 'lowering the resolution' as so many apologists claimed.

Hell, rather than claiming the XSX is going to magically gain a 30% advantage, from being 3% behind, with matured dev tools, it's the XSS I'd be looking to as a reason XSX might not be as far head as it is on paper.

Maybe if the XSX wasn't hobbled by dev time getting allocated to a system that can't run these games properly, it would be better optimised.

It's probably just that 'on paper' really wasn't the whole story, and Sony weren't actually selling a weaker system for the same price though.

How is it pretty bad? I don't think they're using PS5's geometry engine to get more performance out of it. Neither are they doing something similar on Series X|S.

Difference between consoles doesn't matter but if we say it matters , it matters only at beginning of gen when a trend is being seen by potential buyers .

Nothing mind blowing as a launch game but yeah looks solid for the resolution it's at and the frame rate. I think at a certain point they want to just limit options on console because it would require too much work/testing probably.

This is what I don't understand about some people. They actually believe that companies care for them personally. They don't understand that Sony and Microsoft want you to feel that way so money will part from your wallet.

I find it pretty sad that people would believe this kind of stuff. However, if you are critical about the things these companies do, they will make things better for the gamers to get them to spend money.

What happens when we're a year or 2 in and PS5 is still beating Series X in performance? What's it gonna be then?

Both versions have quite a bit of screen tearing and frame drops all over the place. While the XsX bottoms out at 94, PS5 isn't much better at 97 - and there's a good bit of inconsistency in both.

The fact both consoles are holding 60fps so consistently in the RT mode makes 120hz look even less an attractive option.

I agree it's probably not that well optimized. I do think once the generation is able to get rid of cross-gen support that it'll improve for both.

I can assure you all the XSX is NOT a locked 60. I just finished a mission where there is a gigantic crane, some platform you get winched out of by a helicopter, and ice slides. Substantial drops there.

Only place I have noticed so far, but they are there. That would be an interesting area to focus on!

That's probably what will happen over time but at the moment it's Series Wait

Wait for exclusive games (most of the stuff shown have 2022 or later written all over it and even Halo might be very late 2021 )
Now it's wait for tools to improve to finally show that teraflops advantage

By the time all this stuff arrives we will be close to half of the generation and both companies will be gearing up for mid gen refresh consoles.
 
I think Xbox fans need to keep their expectations in check even when better tools are provided to devs. There is not going to be some magical point where Series X gets that 20% delta of performance in games because of the TFLOP difference. That isn't how it works. I truly believe years down the road most multiplats will basically be parity between the two consoles with Series X sometimes offering a minor advantage in games and PS5 offering a minor advantage in other games.

No, I think he likes pissing off the "other lot" more than he likes Xbox. Just bored and with enough free time to bring console warring to crap in threads or start new ones just to that effect at best and astroturfing at worst... but then we have gems such as PS5 is not PS5... so we do get something in return.

He made up his mind PS5 is shit or that is the position he decided to make his to piss people off with and he is happy to troll threads and promise retribution. So you can imagine he will try to go after people for minutiae (making mountains out of molehills as they say) as if he had not been on a string of excuses too. He knows MS marketing was trying to lead their fans to believe in an Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro scenario at launch, but I do not think he gives a crap about that... it is misleading and bad only when the other side does it.

The group of people saying that "18% is just a minimum difference, you will see FAR more than that when games comparisons come out" tends to overlap with those that told you "it was NOT a problem that the bulk of the pre-launch period was spent marketing BC titles and not highlighting new software" as well as the group that found it insulting to think "dev kits could be behind" are now saying that "only those dev kits will see a massive performance boost".

Will the tools of both consoles improve? Yes. Will XSX show much better results in the hands of first parties? Yes. Will you have games where the 18% performance differences flexes its muscles? Yes... the same way in some other scenarios the PS5 rasterisation performance, geometry processing, etc... (all the parts where PS5 has the same amount of units clocked far higher) will help lessen that lead.

The thing is, lets assume 20% performance delta in either direction. Difference is basically very small to imperceivable.

That's why I think Sony were very smart in reducing the APU size and investing in other areas. PS5 engineering is brilliant.

100% agreed, even if Series X can finally make use of that 20% on the regular its still not going to be some kind of night and day difference, definitely not a case of PS5 will run some next gen titles at 30fps vs 60fps on Series X type situation.

The denial and refusal to accept the reality is something unique to Xbox. This is something special.

- 'wait until you see Halo: Infinite blow everything else away at launch'
- 'wait for all those AAA games after the Bethesda acquisition'
- 'wait for the devs to learn how to use the tools'

There are already 3 Games, where we have 120 FPS on XSX vs. 60 FPS on PS5 though.

And two of those are one of the most popular multiplayer games in the world, so that's actually a really big deal.

no one gives a shit if you actually can't see any difference at all between those mediocre and lazy ports.
However, having one of the biggest multiplayer games running 120fps on XSX vs 60fps on PS5 is actually a much bigger deal and much more noticeable than zooming in 800% and check framerates in slow motion.

While PS4 Pro had pixel fillrate advantage, it was slower is other units of the GPU. For e.g. One X had 29% more cache bandwidth, rasterization rate (Gtri/s) was 29% faster.

These are now 22% faster on PS5 than Series X.

Series X in rasterization is -18% slower than PS5 along with pixel fillrate, and cache bandwidth.

In short, it's dangerous to rely on TF alone as an absolute indicator of GPU performance. And the results are showing this.
