how come tv shows, cartoons, and video games get weird and awful fanbases but no one ever worships YouTube personalities?
The edgiest, Harry-Potter-glasses-wearingest, grandfather's-sweater-havingest, "I like to draw the angst of my teenage soul as a furry version of me in this mock Moleskin notebook only using Korean 0.38mm gel pens"iest, "UGH I HATE THE BASKETBALL TEAM"iest teens I teach fucking *LOVE* Rick & Morty and never shut up hell up about it.
It's admittedly silly but they've 100% turned me off watching the show. Just like people who won't shut the fuck up about how the Wire is the best show ever (it's good) or how Parks & Rec is some masterpiece (it's funny I guess).
r&m is red letter media right?
You forgot Sonic and UndertaleThe big list of awful fanbases:
SuperWhoLock fans
Bronies
R&M fans
J.Cole fans
Walking Dead fans
Wrestling fans (especially)
Patriots fans
Xxxtentacion fans
LoL players
Zack Snyder fans
South Park fans
Those GoT fans that make podcasts all about what the fuck Jon Snow or whoever the fuck ate for breakfast that one time in season 20, episode 4
Prequels fans
PewDiePie fans
With Trump fans obviously getting the gold medal
Videogames have gamergate.
They ain't ok.
I mean you're not the problem.Didn't realize there was so much wankery over the show. I just started binge watching it and was surprised by how, well, "smart" it was so I kept watching it. I mean it's not really the jokes that get me but rather the surprisingly thoughtful character interaction that serves as the basis for much of the humor. It's fun to have a show make light of very serious mental health issues but also have the presence of mind to lighten things up with juvenile humor to get my mind off shit.
I guess I'm part of the problem, but I didn't realize there were other ass hats like me out there wanking over it the same way. ¯_(ツ_/¯ I should probably spend more time on the internet.

Rick & Morty
People who identify with Rick and view him as a hero don't understand that he's an irredeemable sack of shit who occasionally has moments of clarity. Or they do understand that, which is even worse. He's a good character, but he's not a good person.Yeah it's kinda too bad that so many of their fans are totally toxic towards the female staff writers, for example. The moment you start self-identifying with Rick you've gone TOO FAR.
There's similarities with BoJack, but that character genuinely wants to be a better person, and you feel for him. He just keeps failing at it. In the worst ways. Rick, on the other hand, has given up on ever being a good person.LOL I saw that tweet too. This has come up a lot recently but the people who see themselves in characters like Bojack Horseman and Rick Sanchez and don't recognize the fact that both characters are damaged and damage their loved ones are indeed very problematic, to say the least. A similar discussion was brought up around the time Breaking Bad was all anyone talked about. Around then there were many fans who idealized Walt because he was "smart, ruthless and aggressive" in getting what he wanted while Skylar was a "naggy, overbearing, bitch" for trying to "tear him down and undermine his success".
Yup. There's the people who like it for the biting deconstruction of the 21st century American family, and then there's the people who like it for "Get Schwifty".I feel like most Rick and Morty fans don't actually understand the philosophical underpinnings of the show and just think its super edgy and roll with it from there.
Like "Nobody belongs anywhere, nobody exists on purpose, everyone is going to die, come watch TV." is one of the greatest distillations of enlightened nihilism/enlightened absurdism ever written but most people are just "lol get your shit together in a backpack lol"
Weird. The pop culture references are fun but they're frequently just a setup for the more interesting elements of the show. I'm actually kind of surprised that that aspect is actually the main pull for anyone. Huh.I mean you're not the problem.
The type and nature of the show being clever and chalk full of pop culture references means it will always attract the subset of "red pilled" basement dwellers whose lives are so pathetic they need a cartoon to cling onto to feel superior over another person.
It's a running joke from the rest of the thread. Here, I'll go next.
How come cartoons, TV shows, and video games get terrible and weird fanbases but college sports are ok?

This is MLP:FiM all over again.
Good show with some insufferable fans.
2007 was a dark year
i wish there was a way to find all the rick & morty fans at this party...
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Speaking of insufferable...when will people stop using asinine abbreviations for everything? Does it really take that much effort to write out the full title? I have no fucking clue what you're referring to here.
what's the most optimal way to find all of the james cameron avatar fans at a party? thanks in advance

Are you familiar with Supernatural at all?
Because you wouldn't be saying that if you were.

"Boy I sure wish McDonalds would bring back that Szechuan McNugget sauce!"
*Scans room intently*
Why is it that cartoons that get popular have incredibly toxic and weird fandoms, but TV shows are perfectly normal?
judging by your avatar, you like the show, so no fans talk down to you for not getting itWhere do people keep running into these toxic fans? I love the show and the only interactions I've been a apart of, or encountered, are recommending the show or discussing episodes.
A similar thing happened with Undertale. Everyone says the fandom was awful, but all I saw were a bunch of fun remixes of the music. Guess I'm good at avoiding those neighborhoods.
Smoked a lot of weed, got high, then saw ONE picture of the Pickle Rick condoms! I thought to myself, I WANT ONE! Then.... I realized they aren't for sale anywhere... so why not make them myself?
