Fandoms blow. All of them.
Let's hope all this doesn't discourage Dan Harmon. He's the type to take things to heart.
Wowser.Hella cool

Where do people keep running into these toxic fans? I love the show and the only interactions I've been a apart of, or encountered, are recommending the show or discussing episodes.
A similar thing happened with Undertale. Everyone says the fandom was awful, but all I saw were a bunch of fun remixes of the music. Guess I'm good at avoiding those neighborhoods.
Wowser.

To be fair, Im a hypocrite since Steven Universe is one of my all-time favorite cartoons and theres fans of that on tumblr that are bat-shit insane
It's smarter than most shows in that it directly addresses issues most similar shows tend to ignore, and it does it in creative ways, but yes, you'd have to be pretty full of yourself to subscribe to the "it's for smart people" line. It's no smarter than Adventure Time or Bob's Burgers, really.Well, hang on, the show isn't not not-smart. There's some legitimate philosophical conversations going on. But none of it is genius level required reading level discourse.
The show does a pretty good job of exploring the pitfalls of nihilism while showing enlightened absurdism as a more tenable worldview, but it's not freakin Wittgenstein or anything,
I think Harmon detests parts of the fanbase as much as everyone else. You have episodes blatantly and directly making fun of the hardcore fans.

LiS is the exact kind of game you'd expect from middle-aged Frenchmen trying to emulate American teenagers.

Hella yeah they are
I don't even like LiS that much
I'm still giddy to see how David Cage handles race relations using androids in Detroit.
What does an atheist rick and morty fan rush to tell you first
that they're atheist or a rick and morty fan?

Whilst I don't care much for the term itself, a thought emerged recently in a conversation with friends which I've been curious about: Is Rick a "Mary Sue"?
So a vegan atheist R&M fan walks into a bar....
There's got to be a joke here

Im still amazed how someone could make a game starring Jesse Williams and try to pass it off as not political

My first exposure to Rick and Morty was when some time ago I was looking up Oscar song performances. One of the most memorable for me was always Elliott Smith for Miss Misery and how standing on stage in his stark white suit and an acoustic guitar he just seemed... so out of place especially compared to the bombastic Celine Dion juggernaut that year. When I looked up the video all the comments were some variant of "TINY RICK!!!" and I had no idea what the hell people were talking about until I googled it. I found it super obnoxious.
A year or two later, I caught up with Rick and Morty. It's a clever show that I enjoy (though I think Community was stronger with its references and allusions but get that this isn't all Harmon) but it's crazy how out of proportion its fanbase blows some of its references and jokes.
The big list of awful fanbases:
SuperWhoLock fans
Bronies
R&M fans
J.Cole fans
Walking Dead fans
Wrestling fans (especially)
Patriots fans
Xxxtentacion fans
LoL players
Zack Snyder fans
South Park fans
Those GoT fans that make podcasts all about what the fuck Jon Snow or whoever the fuck ate for breakfast that one time in season 20, episode 4
Prequels fans
PewDiePie fans
With Trump fans obviously getting the gold medal
Theyre included as well! Everyones on the list!
The Skylar hate got real uncomfortable real quick.
oh my fucking god, rick and morty fans are elliott smith fans now?

Typical terrible geek culture thing. Endless references, bare of any context.
