What is VGCW?
Video Game Championship Wrestling is a fictional pro wrestling organization and broadcast, starring popular video game (and vaguely video game related) characters competing in AI vs AI matches from WWE '13. Created and maintained by Twitch.tv user Bazza87, VGCW streams on Tuesday nights on the author's twitch channel, with the female division and VGCW At Home streaming on an unscheduled basis.
Essentially, it's like if WWE Monday Night Raw was full of game characters instead of wrestlers, had matches whose winners were not predetermined, took itself even less seriously, and yet somehow had higher-quality storytelling despite being incredibly stupid at the same time.
Hold on. Storytelling?
You bet!
It all started when a random Money-in-the-Bank ladder match ended in about two minutes thanks to the notoriously bad AI in WWE 13. Bazza87 restarted the match so that it would be more entertaining, leading to the silly twitch chat comparing the situation to a "screwjob" and Bazza87 adopting the in-universe persona of General Manager Baz McMahon. This led to a season's worth of stories, mostly based around the "corporate sellout" Little Mac and his ongoing feud with Zangief.
Little Mac was run over by a car in the first season finale, leading to a second season based on Phoenix Wright's investigation of the attacks, the rise of the mysterious and violent Mr. L, and the overthrow of Baz McMahon's regime.
At the end of VGCW's third season, Dracula's dark plans came to fruition, as he and his acolytes (the traitor Dan Hibiki, the newly empowered Majin Vegeta, and the mysterious newcomer Kefka) forcibly seized control of VGCW. As season 4 continued, the puppet hero Geno recruited stalwart companions such as Solid Snake and Mr. Satan to oppose Dracula's oppressive reign. After a confrontation with his returning friend Nappa, Vegeta had a change of heart, sacrificing his own life in an attempt to bring down Dracula once and for all.
He failed.
All seemed lost, until help came from an unexpected source: Little Mac! Returning to VGCW with a new outlook, he joined Vamphound, overthrowing the vampire GM after a brief wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey detour.
Season 5 has seen VGCW continue under the new leadership of Gabe Newell, as Nappa attempt to gather the seven Dragon Balls so that he can bring his fallen friend back to life. He's not the only one looking for them, however...
Meanwhile, in the newly revitalized Female Division of VGCW, maintained by Bryn4444, Carmen Sandiego runs the show thanks to some contractual shenanigans, while Lightning and a few friends try to thwart her criminal schemes.
