I went to the Seattle show last night at the Paramount, and saw one of the only two remaining venues (Vancouver being the other one).
It was fun. Funny, poignant at times (they did something really cool during MoH music - using real footage from WW2 and not pulling any punches - much better than typical FPS footage).
There were some oddities - a really long Headhunter piece (everyone was all, "whaaaaa....?"and the odd disconnect between the video tech guy and the orchestra. But mostly it worked.
The theater was mostly full, and mostly full of kids, nerds, etc. Which did make it easy to get served at the bar.
Tommy, whether you dig him or not, was funny and engaging on stage, hosting a Frogger contest where a 10 year old kid owned some 25 year old nerd to win a Ferrari laptop.
The orchestra was on form, and you could smell the GAF in the air by the type and duration of cheers. That aspect did have a negative. Guess which fucks actually booed when their stuff didn't get played? And also yelled and whooped during the stuff of theirs that WAS played, during (and thus ruining) the pieces? That's right. Nbots and Squareheads. I wanted them to enjoy it but they couldn't help their own fapping. They are different than you or I.
The MGS piece had the sweetest video montage, from all the 3D games, and the music was done beautifully. Afterwards they had a meet and greet autograph session with some of the musicians, composers, orchestra and local game devs. All in all, a fun evening and it's a shame it hasn't taken off.
To be honest, I think they'd be better selling this to city Philharmonics. Season ticket holders go to anything, and parents could take their kids to this, a-la Nutcracker Suite. They'd have better orchestras (sometimes) and it could really become part of a Symphony's annual calendar.
