Yeah, this isn't really an isolated incident. I think about the environment around hip-hop, too. A lot of it is comaraderie, which is cool, but everything else is division and hate. Even the infamous West vs East battle (when it was intense) never had much ground, IIRC.

It sucks but I have to agree. This happeens way too fucking much with rap and hip hop and I will go farther and say most large functions with blacks involved. Black people just don't know how to act whne they get in a group most of the time. How many Oscar awards have there been and ho many fights have broken out. I would say none, yet rap has been around for 20 years and it's awards shows haven't even gotten to the double digits and most of them have ended in violence. Hell even dumb ass white rockers know enough no to fight during the MTV awards or whatever, yet rappers can'r seem to conrol themselves. I don't know if they just believe the hype or if they just have no self control.

Isolated incidents dude. The number of hip hop artist not involved in any of this far outweight the numbers of those thata re. It's not like these guys fight everytime they see each other, or are always killing one another etc etc.

Isolated incidents that happen to almost always go down in the public eye: the forementioned award show beatdowns, Above the Law vs. Da Lench Mob at CMJ years & years ago, Tupac shot in Vegas after a major boxing event, Biggie gunned down after an awards show.

It makes rappers look like fucking animals, and I'm pissed off because it makes the ones that AREN'T knuckleheads look bad.

I still believe this has more to do with a part a the hip hop community and not the whole. How come there's now problem with the Soul Train awards for example? I think the situation really has more to do with how particular shows are ran and what kind of behavior is discouraged or encouraged.

Black people aren't at the oscars or the fucking MTV AWARDS? How many awards shows has rap had? How many have ended[/b[ in violence? Were Nas and Jay Z running around on stage firing off shots into the air or some shite? The fact that this happens twice when Dr Dre is up for a lifetime achievement award should tell you something.

And Rock N Roll shows have had tons of violence, OD's and suicides, please.

didnt know there was a thread posted about it because i didnt know it occurred at the vibe awards...but

but they got a good video clip of it here

funny stuff.

you can see 50 and banks doing nothing just standing there while 50 starts cheesing while getting pulled back, and then banks gets snuffed by some guys and falls down out of the camera while dre is beating the shit out of someone....and tony yayo is the one throwing one of the chairs.

lol. Funniest parts is seeing the close up of the guy clinging on to dear life to the Policeman's leg while being covered by this big fat ass body gaurd and then The police standing up above him doing nothing cause they are afraid. And then some cop later running in Spraying a can of mase real fast and one guy Dropping from the mase.

hilarious but also very sad at the same time.

peace

Dude we are talking viloence in fucking public in front of fucking cameras not fuck ODs and suicides. Name one mainstream awards show with white people that had to be shutdown or stopped because some coke head rock star decided to jump another. I can only think of one incedent inwhich at an awards ahow to rock singers fought, and it didn't lead to a fucking brawl because the other people there had sense to stay away. In the Dre video you have dumbasses running up and throwing fucking chairs and instigating the stit, ratherthan stopping it or staying the fuck out of it.

MTV was actually saying someone ended up getting stabbed in the midst of all of this. However, they did end the segment on a funny note, they said the only description the police said they could release of the suspect (for the stabbing I guess) was "a black male wearing a white t-shirt." :lol

HOLY SHIT!

LAPD has issued an arrest warrant for Young Buck! The guy stabbed was the attacker and Young Buck was the stabber.

-It's being scrolled on the bottom of MTV every few minutes.

Oh so the cameras make all of the difference.

I cant name a "White" awards show where violence happened on camera (it's fucking ridiculous to compare the Oscars to a musical award show), but I know black ones that haven't. The Essence Awards, The Soul train Awards, The BET Awards. So stfu with your black people don't know how to act drivel. This dre thing is idiotic, but it isn't because their fucking skin is dark. When taiwainese politicins start throwing chairs and microphones at one another, no one says its because Asians don't know how to act!

Am I the only one that notices that when violence or controversy breaks out at these award shows, it's usually Suge trying to get a piece of Snoop, Dre or some former deathrow artist?

Yeah it does because when, even low class white people, ie doped up rock stars and entertainers and others get in a group withing view shoot of a camera they more time than not are able to control themselves. Something blacks, who prefer to listen to rap and hip hop don't seem able to do. FACT. Sorry it offends you but it happens. If someoen asked you which would end in violence most likly, a Rap/hip hop show or a rock concert most people would say 9 times out of 10 the rap concert. Why because even though rap and hip hop has only been around 20+ years, there has been more violence, ie rioting, shooting, and other stupid shit going on around it, than rock music, which has had it's fair share of violenec but hardly ever is it due to the entertainers themselves.

What have I rossed all i'm saying is that Rap and hip hop shows have a higher incedece of violence than rock concerts, even taking into account that Rap has been around only for 20 years. If some mod/admin finds offense to that then whatever. Anyhow regardless of banning I'm done with this thread.

Ok that's not even true. The fucking Sex Pistols alone had more violence at their shows than your average hip hop artist. There was one a humngous fucking riot at a Guns n Roses show back in the day, hell there are riots after basketball games and soccer matches, what's your point?

This has happened at like two awards shows always involving the same general people. Think about it man.

I've been to many hip hop concerts where no violence occured. My friends and I all prefer to listen to rap/hip hop and we're not a bunch of loose cannons. You generalize too much.

if you watch the video on mtv.com you can actually watch the guy get stabbed. as soon as the video starts, look for the guy in the gray sweatshirt with white stripes down the shoulders--he's pretty much in the middle of the screen. follow him for the next 10-15 seconds and you can clearly see him stab the guy, put the knife into his pocket, kick the guy, back up, and then hand the knife off to someone else. i can't confirm if that's young buck or not, but that's the dude who did the stabbing.

This thread is filled, to the brim, with stupidity and ignorance.

First: This can't be called an all-black function because it isn't. This isn't an incident displaying the immaturity of Hip-Hop music and the Hip-Hop culture, but it displays the immaturity of Suge Knight. Yes, he's in a large organized crime ring that stretches throughout the nation. He's known for sending his cronies (This time his bodyguards and one of his underling artists) to do stupid shit like this for him for money. Suge mocked Dre and over-estimated his own brilliance, taunting Dre with stupid crap before the awards show but when Dre won, he was the first person angry and people paid for it. Suge isn't representative of black people as a whole though, and your pontificating that he is just belying.

Blacks arent the biggest market for Rap and Hip Hop, Shadow Red. Who do you think buys over 70% of Rap CDs and singles? On the other hand, are blacks not involved and deeply intwined with Rock now?

Lastly, it can also be attributed to the media the bad image of rap. It helps explain the comments rife with ignorance in this thread. Of course a fight at the Grammies would not be publicized this widely. A fight at the Vibe awards, or Source awards would be publicized and would appeal to more people than, say, fisticuffs at the MTV awards. This has been the trend for ages, and I hope that people know what I am alluding to. The selective news coverage of certain events involving certain people vs another group of people. I'm not radical or anything, but even I can see where this is another instance of such biased media. Most people in todays mindset can identify with those types of stories than the reverse.

It was Dem Franchize Boys!

(somebody better get it :D )

I get it :lol

The best is when local news reports a crime and describes the assailant as a person "Wearing an oversized white shirt, blue jeans and white shoes" :LOL

btw, anyone know why that mtv video wouldnt work? I have windows media player 10 and Mozilla Firefox but when I try to play it, it says

"we have detected that your browser does not have the required Windows Media 9 plug-in to play this video"

Then when I click "click here to get the plug-in" I get a Media Player setup program. Problem is every time I try to install it, it says I have the latest version and I should be good but I'm not. Messes up only seemingly on mtv.com but my older bro was having a hell of a time trying to watch music videos cause of this. Anyone got an idea?

I am not saying Rock Concerts never end violently:

Not saying I don't agree with your overall point, but I'm pretty sure that a freaking stabbing between rock stars at the VMAs would be highly publicized.

Well rock artists trashing their hotel rooms has become more of an expected ritual.

Lets not get into some of the weird stories about guys like Marilyn Manson though.

I think the women who claimed to have been raped at Woodstock ('94 and the more recent one) are a bit more disturbing than a fist fight.

the problem is that these guys (rappers) make millions off of their "tough guy" image. if this image is challenged, what choice do they have? they can either:

A) let it slide and kiss their career goodbye
B) do exactly what they did here and make even more money

to be honest, the problem isn't "black people". were ALL apart of the problem. blame the entertainment industry for choosing guys who talk about drugs, murder, extortion etc as role models (i wont even get into how this reinforces negative stereotypes of african-americans). blame the millions of kids who listen to and look up to these guys and buy their records. blame the millions of parents who let their kids listen to this shit. i can't be mad at some dude trying to get him and his family out of the ghetto though...

i think it's fairly obvious by now that the majority of rappers do or will do the shit they talk about on their records. it seems people think it's gotten to a point where it's all hollywood and shit ain't real... it is. if you don't want this kind of shit at your party, you don't invite a bunch of muthafuckas from the hood... it's as simple as that.

i think it's fairly obvious by now that the majority of rappers do or will do the shit they talk about on their records.

Aside from banging scores of groupies and doing a lot of drugs (and that's been a staple of popular music for decades anyway ... Sex, Drugs, and Rock N' Roll?), I doubt most rappers do even 1/50th of the stuff they talk about.

why? look at the number of rappers in and out of jail... stabbings, shootings... dudes like jadakiss make it known that they're still involved in drug sales. if it's not true, the streets talk...

The rapper Young Buck was being sought by police Tuesday for allegedly stabbing a man who punched hip-hop legend Dr. Dre at the Vibe awards.

Buck, who is signed to Dr. Dre's record label, fled the Santa Monica airport hangar where the awards were taped Monday night, police Lt. Frank Fabrega said in a statement. Police said a warrant was being prepared alleging assault with a deadly weapon.

I just think you are ignorant to what goes on in Rock as well. I remember reading an interview with Keith Richards talking about how they used to fight other groups and how fueds were developed over dumb shit like groupies. Not to mention all the internal fights in rock groups. Do I even have to bring up the Mosh Pit? I guess that was a Rap invention as well, right? Bring a "star" brings all kinds of ego and about 1000 people around to pump that ego. When that ego is not catered to, shit happens.

As far as saying, "Black people can't get along in public without fights" is pretty retarded and blatantly racist. I never hear about fights at the Essence festival every year in New Orleans, at the TSU/Prarie View game here in Houston doesn't have drivebys after every play, not like SWAT team has to be called everytime when a play is in town that caters to Black people. I don't have to roll my windows up when I drive by a Black church on Sundays. Man, stop living life through the movies and newspaper clippings.

Did anybody watch the show? Seriously. Because this was ONE burp. The show went on as usual right after this fuck up. Everybody in the room wasn't in some kind of bloodlust. Some of you guys are blowing it way out of proportion. Dre came back out, gave his acceptance speech, said nothing about revenge or this and that. he was obviously disturbed, but other than that it was buisness as usual.

I watched some of it. The broadcast made it look like nothing happened. Snoop, and then Dre when he came up to accept his award, looked really pissed off.
