Virtua Fighter X eSport announced

Nice to know, thanks.
That draws some worrying shadows on AM2, though.
VF5's lighting was breathtaking but there were already complaints about Akira's face at the time. (gamers were pointing out the lack of details arguing games models like Silent hill 3 were already on the market. Don't say they were right, but Akira's face wasn't impressive despite the very high polycount of the game)

From an artistic standpoint the game was always untouchable though. That's the main thing.

Ok their last vf was 10 years ago but they're probably the ugliest characters they've ever put out. And Akira is, like, the image of AM2.

Yeah, backgrounds always have been amazing but the character models were a little divisive for VF5 (plastic body polemic in vanilla. In FS bodies are less plastic because less detailed)

I'm finding myself rather apathetic over this whole reveal. Having a more readily available version of VF5 is welcome, but the visual treatment--or more specifically the character modeling--is somewhat off-putting. Assuming the decision to rebuild the graphics wasn't seen as some technical necessity, given the choice, I'd rather the original visual presentation had been maintained. Also, Sarah's outfit ain't shiny enough. Maybe it'll all look better in motion, which I guess we'll be able to judge in just a week's time.

Haha, i meant about one we can see him clearly, but well i just noticed there are face models in the UI, looks nice, and Sarah looks super pretty here, if it's her in game model that's neat, but it didn't look like it? unless it was the angle that gave that impression.

I don't get it. If everything's remade from scratch then it certainly isn't enough to make the game look radically different and 'next gen' (considering the original VF5 specs it still qualifies even by being for PS4, but it certainly doesn't look the part). Like yeah I see less polygonal edges and I guess every single texture is gonna be high res now and shaders more refined but, it's not that huge a leap, the last version doesn't look trash in comparison or anything (and nowhere near the leap from 3 to 5 someone claimed earlier). And if they took that effort in 1:1 remaking everything to this extent and in a new engine and everything, why not build a new visual style and new entry to go with it rather than just remake 5? Even if they went with half the roster to start a la SFV. I hope some faces and the life bars and other stuff are far from final too, the latter especially looks cheap af. And yeah PS4 only is just WTF bonkers bullshit. If this underperforms it's all on them, but it will mean another decade or two without a new effort and maybe change their whole plan about their old IP that was recenly leaked saying they want to do more with such stuff moving forward or whatever.

Well, the graphics to me look like a considerable downgrade. Even the models we got from the guest features in Dead or Alive 5 were better than this and that came out years ago. Looks sort of like a remake done by some fans/amateurs in a free game development software. I know their whole point wasn't to make it some gorgeous next generation piece but my god... it looks better on RPCS3 with some simple graphical enhancements. Virtua Fighter is my favorite fighting game and this just disappointed me a little along with Sarah being my favorite character it's even worse. Maybe it'll be better in person but it won't matter much to me. I no longer have a PS4.

"PS4 exclusive"

How surprising ? That's the kind of jokes we all anticipated from SEGA.

They never let us down when they have to be disappointing.

SEGA is so good at being bad, the best.

Since the Yakuza guys are involved in this, surely we're going to see at least one unlockable Yakuza character, right?

That would be cool and smart. (new Yakuza fans would jump in the VF train pronto)

Don't expect Kiryu though.

I think Yakuza is a bigger franchise than VF right now, so it would definitely help out the later to include some characters from the former.

Speaking of extra characters, it would be amazing (although highly unlikely) to get a Streets of Rage character, such as Axel or Blaze. We never did get a 3D SoR game, so I'd like to see what they would do with them.

I've been thinking for some time I'd like SOR characters in VF. Capcom have put Final Fight characters in SF games a number of times over the years.

You're talking Fighter Megamix... I'm in !

Well the graphics are telling us that Sega doesn't seem inclined to bankroll tons of money on a revival project of Virtua Fighter and make it look like a game made by Naughty Dog, or Guerrilla Games, or Sony Santa Monica Studio, or Sony Bend Studio, or Sucker Punch Productions, or CD Projekt RED, or 343 Industries, or Polyphony Digital, or Insomniac Games, or Rockstar Games, or you name it.

Nice! Japanese update!

I still really hope there's a chance that this will end up on PC someday. Would be awesome to have! Man, I ADORED VF 1/2, hell even 3. But then I fell off after 4. :(

Still really cool to see this happening though, glad it is. Worse come to worse I'll get it for my PS5 assuming it'll play there, lmao. 👀

Still hoping we could see a sequel someday!

I love everything, my man Shun looks cleaner than ever.

Only thing i don't much are the VF1 skins, i get it this may be cool for the super nostalgic people but heh nah i don't want that, let me disable this shit when playing online.

Outside of this game looks neat, Tuesday can't come soon enough!!

Can't wait for this! Even the 360 version still looks better than last Tekken! Speaking of the 360/XsX bc version. Did they take down it's online mode?

So it's confirmed no love for single player or proper modes?

(According to the official JP page) the game modes are :
  • Rank Match
  • Room Match
  • Training Mode
  • Arcade Mode
  • Offline Versus Mode
  • (Character) Customization
