Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Ugh, the new bubble method still seems to be bunk. While it actually seems to load the eboot this time, it goes back to the home menu after loading the boot screen. I've used four different base games and none of them worked. I can't find any evidence of it working for anyone else either.

yep. same here.

it's shit. whoever is doing these tutorials is obviously not testing it or even doing it themselves. The actual writing is fine, as I've got custom bubbles with a custom boot image - but the basegame is incorrect. Whatever they are recommending clearly doesn't work.

Is there a reason why my Vita can't open the app.db email link? It just complains about the size/attachment being too large and closes the email app.

well, you're doing something wrong

but don't worry - following that tutorial is a waste of time.

Check tutorials for "why am I being shown?"

Basically you need to use writer.eml send that redo your account set-up and then send the app.db back.

Edit: Oh, misread. Is your file under 2meg? If not, that's the problem. If so, IDK.

i keep getting error c2-14391-8 when trying to sign in to gmail on the ps tv. is there something im missing?

Have there been new advancements based off this hack?

I don't think so.

To be perfectly honest, I'm more confident now in that Qwikrazor will eventually release his own method for 3.52 before Mr. Gas's and Major Tom's method proves to be useful (and errorproof). It has potential, don't get me wrong, but it's also easy as fuck to break. Sony is going to release the new firmware before we get a consistent way to get working bubbles, and with that we'll get Qwikrazor's bubbles.

Edit: Freakler added a warning to his tutorial and is considering removing it altogether. Let's hope Sony hurries up with the new PS4 firmware so we can get a new OFW for Vita and Qwikrazor releases his method...

Can I activate a Vita via PSTV? And can an older firmware Vita still remote play with the PS4?

Thinking of picking one up but need to adjust plans accordingly.

So I just bought a Vita, and it's fully updated. What if anything can this new hack enable for me?
Can I put emulators and PSP homebrew on my vita?
Are there any decent tutorial write ups?

It's my understanding that the email exploit will allow a whole mess of things once it all gets sorted out.
Wololo is a mess of information and misinformation right now lol.
I'll just not update and wait for more solid information to come out.

...And? Don't update. The e-mail app and other stuff will still function. You only lose the PSN store and trophy syncing. But there are ways around that.

Has there been any mention of firmware version spoofing? Seems logical that if you can fake the region you could fake the firmware version?

How great it would be.....

I think you're missing my point. I won't update, that's for sure, because I'm fully aware of the limitations involved. But what I was driving at is that once Sony releases a new firmware, Qwikrazor will release his own method for bubbles, which appears to be much more consistent that Mr. Gas's.

Be as it may, things are starting to shape up for this exploit.

Here's a PSP ISO installer from SMOKE.

And here's an automated custom Bubble creator by CM Pony.

I haven't tried them yet, because I've just gotten back from work, but I'll give them a swing in an hour or so :)

The exploit seems to be shaping nicely. Since I haven't played my Vita lately all that much I feel I won't miss the online features even if I don't update.

If I can play my old GBA and PS1 games on this thing, I'll be happy. I may finally be able to finish Digimon World 2003 (I have a save file in my PS3 where I had just reached the Amateratsu server). That shit is really grindy T.T

And I'll grab a Phantasy Star Portable 2 too for cheap :)

So I'll wait a little more before starting to mess with this.

im confused. What VHBL version would I use for this new hack?

edit: this doesn't make sense:

Place your PSP game you want to install in the ‘p’ folder of the savedata.
For example: “/PSAVEDATA/PSP-INSTALLER/p/VHBL/EBOOT.PBP”
Copy the savedata to you Vita using QCMA.

...how exactly do I transfer this using qcma? My god, I'm new to the vita scene and I have to say every single tutorial and guide I've seen online so far has been absolute shit.

If any of you brave souls get that PSP installer working, please let us know.

I'm too paranoid to try any of these considering how people have nuked their app.db files so far. One of my systems is on 3.51 with no way to re-activate it should things go south.

You place the PSP-INSTALLER folder where all of your other PSP saves are located. Right click the QCMA icon in the taskbar and select backup manager. Then next to backup type in the top right, select pspsavedatas. Then click open folder for one of them, and then go back one folder. The save data folder is usually gibberish. When PSP-INSTALLER is placed the Vita should recognize it as a standard psp save.

I think I have gotten VHBL on the PSP through the new method but I don't know how to launch it :P

There not that bad per say.. just need some proof reading :P Like the Welcome Park guide has the wrong icon ID lol

Also has any one successfully installed Welcome Park to the PSTV?
I was able to install the PKG installer app no problem but for the love of God cant figure WP Icon path. The one in the guide cant be right "ur0:appmeta/NPXS10007/icon0.png".

wait...got it. I think.

edit: yes!!

that's not working.

The only save thats appearing is the one already on the console.

I'm pretty sure the INSTALLER folder goes inside the 3f9e9.... folder. Try placing it in there and then copying the save from PC to Vita.

I don't think this exploit is really useful. We can place files inside of the game folder but we can't actually load them because all of the bubble methods are bunk. I even recreated the past exploit methods using the GAME/VHBL location and it did the same thing as last time (Hung on the bootscreen image).

yeah, i've got it. heh.

uh, would you mind deleting that image?

I'm backing up my games, although I wouldn't mind losing everything I have installed since tomorrow I'm getting in the mail a brand new 64 GB card. So it's massive downloading time for me anyways :P

I'm going to try the PSP thing now. Has anyone tinkered with the custom bubble installer?

It doesn't even function correctly. I tried adjusting the eboot location but it only has a maximum character limit of like 10.

I've had no success getting homebrew or PSP ISOs booting from custom bubbles. Keep getting errors. It seems retail games do indeed work now, while homebrew does not. Check r/vitahacks. Even so, I can't get anything to work. Gonna try a different base game.

CM Pony just posted a video tutorial. Kinda confusing, but it should work (?). I dunno. I'm going to try transfering a small game (like FFI) and then, if it works, the custom bubble method.

Edit: OK, I'll admit I have no fucking clue what I'm supposed to do. I can't get pass the first step in the tutorial. How do I convert my ISO to PBP? What program are you guys using?

Sweet. I was able to get Persona 3 Portable to replace Patapon.

You need to download SignTool.

Agh here we go.

You download the .pkg file of your base game from this list here. Then you unpack it with PKG Decrypter. Then open the folder of the decrypted PKG and go to USRDIR, CONTENT. Take that eboot file and place it in the same folder as SignTool. Then rename the eboot to NP.PBP. THEN, move the iso of the game you're trying to get on your Vita on SIGNNP.BAT (It won't work if the directory has a space in it. My username on this pc is my first and last name, so I had to move SignTool's folder to my C directory.) THEN, when the process is finished, go to the FIXGAME folder in SignTool's folder and there you go bud.

Okay, so it seems ALL my save files became corrupted somehow. They don't seem corrupted, but no game will load any of my files or acknowledge they're even there. :(

Awesome. I'll try it tomorrow... I'm too tired right now :P Any suggestion on what game to use as base? I have a few PSP games on my account: MGS Peace Walker, Trails in the Sky, Persona 2, Persona 3, World of Pool, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and Final Fantasy Tactics: WotL.

Well I used Patapon 1 as a base. I'd say go for any PSP game around 100 - 400 MB. The guides hackinformer said that practically any PSP game could work so if you don't have any in those range try to go for the smallest first.

So I can see you guys have this working, but what exactly is "this" enabling now? VHBL or just PSP titles?

If it's the latter, does it now allow UMD images to be played?

Well, it seems that the VHBL iso has some flaw that prevents it from working through this method. Apparently any PSP game iso can work through this. I even changed the icon for the bubble!

I also made a nice red theme.

Fantastic, if that's true. Obviously at least to the layperson it's still kind of unknown exactly how open this makes things, but if it means I can have every portable Lumines game on my Vita, I'll be happy.

Edit: I found this and it all makes sense, but if we're running an older firmware than 3.52 (I'm on 3.36) then will an update option appear for any games? I thought it wouldn't let any updates go through unless it was on the latest firmware.

I've also found I can use the Numblast exploit on my Vita as well. I'm assuming that the games available on the store (I'm in AU) are still unpatched. Woo! Decided to finally read about what bubbles actually are... I'm so behind the times :/ (FWIW the last time I actively played my Vita I updated the firmware... and 3.36 came out in Jan :/ )

Edit #2: Been doing some more reading, it sounds like I can do this:
1. Install Numblast, get TN-V working.
2. Install bubble for TN-V.

Does that mean I can delete Numblast and just access TN-V on it's own? Can I then update the firmware or do I leave it? (linking this page for my own reference later)

So the PSP Installer is an app/tool to put PSP games/homebrew on the Vita? You don't have to do the process over and over?

And do you have to deal with bubbles? I don't want to mess with that.

Maybe I should just wait for ARK or TN-V to get email exploits.

Thanks for the help, dude. I managed to get to Step 5 of the tutorial, but I'm stuck in the update part. What game/app are you guys using that has an update available? None of my games has one, so I can't get past step 6 :(

Edit: Oh, OK. The other method is much more simple. I'll try it instead of the PSP-Installer method :)

wait , now i can play all my PS1 and PSP games on vita 3.52 ?
is the exploit is out ?
i thought you can't add more then 2 mb file size
