Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

I just spoke with The Zett on Twitter and he confirmed me that Qwikrazor's bubbles ARE NOT coming for 3.53 (or however this imminent firmware update is called). He'll save them for the next major firmware, "4.0 or something".

Don't update, guys. Download all your PSN games as soon as possible, so you can stay on 3.52 as long as you can.

But if we're on an even older/more capable firmware (like I am on 3.36) we should stay on that, yes?

can i install PSP emulator and PS1 ?
is there any easy tutorial ?

Never update if you can avoid it. Older firmwares are better for homebrew and hacking than newer ones.

The bubbles are not out yet, so no tutorial. They offer the same basic functionality as Mr. Gas's and Major Tom's, but using an alternate method (that's supposedly not going to get patched).

I'm trying to set up a bubble, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. This is getting way over my head...

Edit:

OK, I have no fucking clue what's going on. These are the steps that I'm taking. Someone please help me understand where it all goes wrong, because I'm at my witt's end.

0. Nothing is running, nothing is downloading, there're no notifications.
1. I dump my app.db.
2. I downloaded several bases I own: World of Pool, Ape Quest (Demo), FFT: War of the Lions, MGSPW, etc. None has worked. I'm using Ape Quest right now.
3. I prepared my PSP ISO. In this case, I'm using Final Fantasy I.
4. I use the PKG Decrypter to get the Ape Quest EBOOT.PBP.
5. I rename it to NP.PBP and put it in the SIGNNP folder.
6. I run SIGNNP and get fake-signed EBOOT.PBP from the FIXGAME folder.
7. I create a folder on my PSP SAVEDATA named BU_FFI/game/, where I put the EBOOT.PBP. (As far as I know, the folder can be named whatever I want.)
8. I move the save data folder with QCMA.
9. I got to https://jsfiddle.net/ja8btfs0/1/embedded/result/ and input the following configuration:

Basegame Disc ID: NPEG00005

Bubble name: Final Fantasy

Fake TitleId: BUBBL0001

EBOOT.PBP path: ux0:pspemu/psp/savedata/BU_FFI/game

Position at last screen: 9

10. I hit "Do it!", copy the text I get, go to the DB Browser for SQLite, paste the text, apply it and save the changes.
11. I rename the newly-modified app.db to #0, attach it to an e-mail with the subject line ur0:shell/db/app.db and send it to myself.
12. I open the e-mail on my Vita, touch the image file and the app crashes. I force-close it, restart the Vita and...

13. ... I post here because absolutely nothing happens. No bubble, no anything.

What could be the reason nothing works? The base games I'm using are installed on my Vita. Do I have to put them in a specific position in the screen? I dunno...

You need to copy an icon and param.SFO file from another save into the BU folder and modify the param.SFO file with a certain program to match the ID of the base game and have the name of the replacement game

grrr.

It fails for me upon rebooting and attempting the 5mb download after installing the two hacks. It seems to be working fine, and then I get a c2-13213-0 error.

I've tried everything from scratch twice now.

OK, that sounds like moonspeak, but I'll try it and report back :P

Edit: I managed to get the Bubble across! Yes! But I try to open it and it gives me a C1-2738-0 error... I'll try with another base.

Edit2: SUCCESS! I DID IT! :D Final Fantasy boots up perfectly fine :) Minor issues: I didn't configure the icon, bubble, etc. The PSP-on-Vita menu doesn't appear (no analog remapping). I don't know how to delete the bubble without rebuilding the database.

What I'm going to do now is to download every single game I have on PSN to make backups on my PC, and then I'll start moving my PSP games (and maybe even some PSX games). Hopefully the new update comes out between tomorrow and Thursday and Qwikrazor releases his own method. Loading everything through ARK seems to be much easier than creating a custom bubble for each game, even if it's not as pretty.

I got Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix working in a bubble. Pretty nice to have this one - would love to own it on PSN. Shame Project 8 doesn't work on the emulator at all, always wanted to try the PSP version.

Wonder if keeping the database the way it is will let me keep the bubble for the next update that should be out tomorrow. I imagine it might do a force database rebuild however.

but how people are able to make this bubbles ?

Is there a way to switch PSN regions yet? I want to switch to an US account so I can download Mega Man Legends.

You can through registry editing made possible through the mail exploit.

Be advised this is dangerous.

These look great!

Thanks! You can download them from the custom theme thread on hackinformer's forums.

but how people are able to make this bubbles ?

The process clones the base game's bubble and changes it to describe the inserted game.

EDIT: OH SHIT BOYS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_17g6Ed0EXU

You can load Rockman Rockman through the bubble process and load VHBL that way :)

i still don't understand the bubble process
so , in order to have bubble , i have to sacrifice a game ? or the bubble added to my vita without touching the game ?

it feel very hard , i hacked my 3DS very easily , i rooted my first android phone in 30 minutes
but this feel like in another level

if i did i think i will look like this

Awesome, point taken! With the officialness of it no longer being supported and releases trickling to nothing, it'll be super easy to avoid updating it. PSN access (and high scores/friends etc.) would be nice, but I'm not willing to sacrifice playing PSP games portably.

Side note: Does anyone have any photos of what PSP games look like when being played on the big screen? Need to try and justify whether to buy a PSTV to play Lumines or not. They're yet to go on sale here in AU so it's hard to bite the bullet.

PSP is 480x272. So you're basically stretching that image 8x to fill a 1080p screen.

If you disregard widescreen, it's slightly higher resolution than PS1. Try some PS1 games on your TV (in 4:3) and that will give you a general idea.

So it seems that Qwikrazor is going to release his files for the AKR kexploit once the new firmware hits today or tomorrow. Not the exploit itself, but rather the files to use ARK via Mr. Gas's and Major Tom's bubble method. It should be easier to setup, since it's just one bubble that can load any given game, instead of one bubble per game.

I can't even seem to get started. I sent the app.db e-mail to myself but I can't click the link. Can anyone help me out?

What e-mail client are you using? Try adding the link as hypertext instead of just pasting it on the body of the e-mail. In GMail, for example, there's a hypertext icon in the lower bar (alongside font, alignment, etc.). Put the link as both the link and the text to display to be sure. In other clients it should be more or less the same process.

Apparently Sony has started to push firmware version 3.55 just now. Not sure what it does yet.

It *supposedly* kills the PSTV hack. It doesn't seem to kill custom bubbles, but it does block EML writing. Everything's based on preliminary reports, of course, but the golden rule still applies:

DON'T UPDATE JUST YET!

I dodged the bullet: I had just finished backing up my last PSN game to my PC when news of the update started coming out. What a relief :)

Edit: More precise info:

To recap: 3.55 blocks writing & dumping via eml "email hack" but anything already there like whitelist bypass, themes & bubbles still work

Still, don't update.

Of what significance is not being able to do this, or doing it before they push out an update?

Not much now, but at the time I posted we didn't know that the Vita Update Blocker would bypass the need to update to access the PSN Store. If it didn't, I would have been locked out of the games on my account that I hadn't downloaded and installed ;)

Besides, having all my games on my 64 GB card allows me to dump my app.db as complete as it will ever be. I can back it up in case I want to experiment with bubbles without the risk of losing any licenses, etc.

It's just for the sake of convenience, really.

i have 3.52 is there a way to enable psp homebrew on my vita? would love to play kingdom hearts birth by sleep on my vita, since i didnt completely finish it on my old psp.

well im on 3.52 but havent done anything to my vita except dl apequest demo to A ps3, i havent even gone through the hassle of figuring out how to link/transfer the game from ps3 to vita yet.
According to this I need to have done SOMETHING to be all g.
Can i still do everything (email blah blah blah) on 3.52 without getting the update.

EDIT: basically same question as above

I think it's because I have a playstation TV. The text is blue and has an underline, but there's no way for me to click it. Normal HTML links work though. :/

You have to click the stick. It isn't intuitive, I know.

Anyone know if we'll be able to play PSP ISO games?

I gotta make an ISO of Valkyrie Profile Lenneth and Crisis Core *-*

I don't see why you couldn't. Get the PSP sandbox exploit, FTP them to /psp/iso and then run them through that.

I'm on an older FW. Is it worth it to update to 3.52 and then use update blocker?
Was big into the PSP CFW but haven't tried anything on the Vita yet.
Would love to play PSP isos and emus.

ARK files from Qwikrazor. Sorry for the sketchy post, I'm on mobile at work :p

I still dont get it. I've followed every step with three base games and it still doesn't work.

I need a full video tutorial. Holy shit. I'm one who is experienced with installing shit in linux, electrical engineering and coding in 65816 ASM and I still can't get my fucking head around this shit.

i codded full automated device that can control every electronic device in the house using the telephone

but can't do this

Hmm guys, just to make sure...

What exactly works atm with this new vita exploit?

Any PSP ISO works?
PS1 games working?
Emulators working?

Anyone tried any of the stuff I mentioned? =D

Sorry I'm on mobile and my inet sucks atm so i cant check the thread

What bases have you been using? I haven't tried any yet. I just got from work :P Since Ape Quest, Monster Hunter and PHP/WOP don't seem to work, I'll try with FF Tactics, Persona 2 and 3, Peace Walker and Legend of Heroes.

IF you can make it work, ARK is able to play PSP and PSX games (the latter without sound, unfortunately). VHBL is compatible with emulators and easier to set up, if that's what you want.

Just out of curiosity: has anyone tried turning a PSX ISO to an EBOOT and the create a bubble out of it? Does it work? With or without sound?

Well, neither Peace Walker nor FF Tactics work as bases. Persona 2 and 3 and Trails in the Sky don't have a EU version on the "zeuslinks" list, so I can't try them.

There's something very, very weird about this release of ARK. Barely anyone has been able to make it work, yet Hackinformer claims he's running it with UNO as a base... even if that game was supposedly not viable for a base.

I don't have a freaking clue.

Me either man. I can't get VHBL to work with a custom Rockman Rockman bubble either. Strange things are happening to me.

dude put up a pretty comprehensive tutorial at wololos place so for those having probs give it a try
http://wololo.net/2015/10/01/tutorial-ps-vita-custom-bubbles-for-system-softwares-3-5x/

its a hour with a ton of DL's...I remember watching tuts on psp battery hardmodding that were sub 3 minutes. Times are a changing :(

Woo, that was one hell of a ride, but it worked for me. I used the Ape Quest demo (US version). One question I have though is is it possible to use the same base game to add multiple bubbles, or do you have to use a different game every time?

*EDIT* Actually, it looks like I should install ARK using that process, as that's what would allow my PS1 and PSP games to be installed (at all/faster), right? Oh man, the THPS5 bummer has me all psyched to play THUG 2 on my Vita!

I feel like just updating my Vita. This hack doesn't seem very useful yet

Then again I haven't followed that closely so I could totally be missing something
