Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Really noob question here, I managed to get the Urbanix thing running and installed that Vita FTP thingy but I can't figure out how to transfer stuff, I don't really know what FTP is to be honest :P

If someone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

When you run the FTP program it tells you the IP address your vita is hosting on.

Download this free ftp client to transfer files over.

All you do is type the IP the program gives you into the ftp program's quick connect option in the address bar and hit connect. You can then access the directories on the vita and transfer the psp files.

fuck yes

You are awesome. Many thanks!

No problem at all.

Doesn't this mean those who hacked their vita will never able to get online?

It's not a full on custom firmware but a program you load through a save file in a game. You can still use the online, until Sony updates the firmware and makes you update - which usually blocks the exploit. So far they've never punished users for having leftover exploit files afaik although I always try to uninstall before updating...I also like to wait for confirmation that it's safe before updating ;)

Enjoy it while it lasts guys :) Make sure to keep a backup of some of the psp stuff you transfer for next time so it takes less time to package everything.

That's pretty lucky :P Seems almost random what game they pick to be the exploit these days so I wouldn't feel bad at all either! Even MH by Capcom..

Funnily enough, we never copped any blowback from Sony about it, and we realised if it wasn't our game it would have been somebody else's eventually so weren't too cut up about it.

Was kind of cool in a twisted way to see copies of the game going for US$90 on eBay though because the little supply that was on shelves at the time dried up pretty quick.

Yeah, I remember Gripshift and Lumines going for pretty pennies on ebay back in those days. Crazy stuff.

So... should I update my Vita? I want some of that OLED goodness!

Surprised how all PSP games are not directly compatible via PSN Store when this hack clearly shows that they are (or am I wrong?)

You're going to have to update eventually unless an exploit is found in a game you've already downloaded 'cause you're going to need to get into the PlayStation Store.

nooooooooo~!!!! I jus saw this thread...

I went on the PS3 and picked up Urbanix + Jewel Keeper bundle for $6,

and it only let me download Jewel Keeper...

now I'm out $6 ;_;

Faster then my PSP V1000. But the games are still locked to 333 afaik.

n64 is iffy. snes and genesis are great.

All in your head if you think it's faster, unless the homebrew take advantage of the larger ram pool found in later PSPs and you're comparing it to the v1000 (as far as I know, SNES and genesis emus don't as there is no reason to need more ram)

I am le sad I didn't get in in time. I was traveling to work, hoofed it a block to the local place that sells PSN cards. Redeem the card on the PSP2 and... nada. It was gone but it was there that morning. So sad. :( I was so happy to finally be able to rip my UMDs on the PSP2 but now I can't do that and am held hostage by Sony's incompetence in pricing (pay another $10-30 [WTF Wipeout Pure] for a digital copy) and/or no UMD passport program. :(

I have both Urbanix and the exploit but I think I will wait on PSX emulation. All I really want to do i play Wip3out SE on my VITA....

and maybe a few PSP rpgs that were never released in the U.S.....

I can't get excited about this....I can't get excited about this....I can't....

I am afraid that if I do I won't want to update my Vita ever or have to buy a new one just for CFW, which I can't afford. Oh well, my 3000 works fine for me. But dat OLED screen tempts me so very much.

It has been a while but I do remember slowdowns even with the genesis emulator and games such as sonic and knuckles would have weird glitches with the music..perhaps the emulators got better but it just runs and looks fantastic on the vita. Really brings your old games to life, might be the screen though. Don't think it's even worth making new firmwares if vita homebrew comes about. N64 could use an upgrade though.

..

:( Same..I read bad news about that on the wololo site though (from wololo himself)..basically not to expect sound emulation...(which is the reason it wasn't included - sound wasn't working) anyway, it may get a release without sound anyway..but he didn't specify...I'd expect it though.

Damn, I thought the exploit would work with Monster Hunter so I didn't bother with buying Urbanix yesterday. Had to work all day so I missed the CFW info. Oh well maybe next time!

Sony should just release a tool for copying PSP UMDs to Vita.

But yes, I know, I know. How will they make money? By selling Vitas.

Ugh.

I bought Urbanix through Media Go yesterday, but by the time I got home, Urbanix had been removed from my download list, so essentially I gave Sony 3$.

I wonder if I should bug them for a refund or something.

How does the publisher make money by selling Vitas? As far as i know, EA/Ubi/Activision etc get no money from a Vita sale.

We already bought their games, they already got our money.

So who pays for all the licensing costs to get their game on PSN? No publisher would pay that if they didn't get the money back.

Not to mention how easy it is to exploit such a system. Copy game - send it on to friend. Rinse, lather, repeat.

Maybe it wasn't something widely implemented out of Japan.

But remember the Passport program still involved the publisher as you still had to pay a certain amount to get the game.

Yes they do, The umd used for umd passport program in japan can only be used one.

Unless this is not true outside japan , its this why UMD passport is not available outside japan?

It's got to be specific to that program then, cause i've ripped many of my own umd's and the only thing unique about them is the game id.

And people think this is a bad thing for Sony.

If there were some way to get Dolphin running on it I'd buy 5. But I know, I know.

If I could get Xenoblade running full speed on it, id buy ten more.

But yeah that's never gonna happen. I'll settle for SNES9x at full speed, which means donkey Kong country 2 on the go, with perfect emulation.

Been waiting for that for about 10 years - and no, the gba didn't satisfy my needs at all.

EDIT: Oops. I accidentaly edited out my post. I was basically saying that I'm ready for this exploit, but unsure if I should go through with it, in case it'd get me banned from PSN and some future exploit would require you to use it.
