Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

How does the publisher make money by selling Vitas? As far as i know, EA/Ubi/Activision etc get no money from a Vita sale.

Who cares about them right now? NO ONE IS BUYING THE HARDWARE. Unless Sony does this NO ONE WILL BUY IT. Once they allow you to feed off the PSP backlog, they'd have a bunch of people on the platform and maybe *gasp* developer/publisher support would start to gather than "oh shit, what happens after Fall 2012!?"

zing son, I always thought there was more of a reason to not having psp2 on vita apart from it does not work, most likely to not clash with pso2 later next year.

They're already taken PSP2's servers down, IIRC. And besides, one is offline play and online with an online pass. The other is ONLINE ONLY. I don't see PSP2 cannibalizing PSO2 in anything other than being able to grind/play offline.

Is there any way to copy Urbanix to a second memory card? I have a second card that I want to put some homebrew and ISOs on, but Urbanix is on my main card. Can I use a PS3 or Content Manager to copy it from one card to another?

Use OpenCMA (you MUST use this, not regular CMA). Copy Urbanix to PC, switch cards, copy to new card.

yeah, someone should def make a new thread if a new game exploit is found.

i pretty much stopped reading this thread cause of all the bickering about homebrew but randomly clicked on the last page and boom, was lucky to see read about urbanix.

i really hope he fixes hope sleep/turning off the screen crashes most games, then it'll be pretty much perfect for my needs.

luckily vita doesnt have any online games i really want (LBP, but it's not dire; i can wait for levels) so i'm staying like this for a while.

How can I set up FTP with this?

i wasn't going to bother with FTP but it looks hella easy to use.

yes. I had to do this last night. Put in your card with urbanix - then create a backup on your PC via Content Manager. Swap cards. Go to settings menu on Vita, format memory card. Then after it reboots and such, connect to CMA and then do a restore from the backup you just made. Bam, urbanix on your other card.

A little confused, do I just set this up like PSP homebrew to run it? I copied the save over and it was for a dragonball z game, but running urbanix and loading the save doesn't show me vita ftp

EDIT: Got it, just set it up like PSP homebrew.

Frankly I was hoping to get blown by the visuals but this game actually suffers from the upscale, while on the PSP screen(PSPgo expecially) resulted crips and detailed.

Really hope they dropped the ball on the localization for an upped res port.

Ok, so finally i got a game to load, i tired 3 different ISO files of the same game and the 3rd one loaded, when i pressed the PS button in a cut scene the game froze when i went back, hope the bugs will get fixed.

Those who downloaded a PSN game and also those who won't update their firmware can. The game is already removed from the store, and the exploit will most likely get patched next update.

Thats great. Altough if this becomes more widespread in the future I will most likely buy a 2nd Vita to play some PSP games I have wich are not available on PSN.

Same here. If PSX emulation is fixed, I would also consider buying a second Vita just to play the games I can't download on PSN.

Still much more confortable to use a cheap PSPgo to do this, instead of bringing 2 Vitas. PSP games don't look better on Vita than on PSPgo, and the smaller design make it the definitive emulation machine.

It seems that Sony is checking and stealth removing some games. Some minis are unavaliable on my download list, and I direct download them some weeks ago.

Wait.. is that an Asian version of it? Sigh, it looks like it's fully in English, at least the menus are -_- I was really hoping that game would be brought over, when the localization was canned I was so bummed out. An upscaled vita port with trophies would be much welcomed.

I wouldn't be surprised, they're taking the whole hacking/CFW thing very seriously now. I'm surprised they don't test these PSP PSN games for stuff like that before they upload them. They should do it now before they have hundreds of PSP games on the Vita store.

... maybe that's why they're releasing them in smaller chunks?

I wonder if homebrew would allow to also change the GUI of the Vita or is that not possible? I kind of hate the bubbles and would love to bring the XMB to the Vita.

The thing is, with the psp kernel exploit now out in the open and will almost certainly be patched, anyone NOT on the train at this point is likely locked out for a good long while.

User mode exploits are a dime a dozen on PSP software, hacks that grant you escalated access are very rare.

If the PSP is anything to go by you can probably change it however you want

Personally I love the bubbles now but I would appreciate some refinement to it. Homebrew would be great for this type of stuff

I think there's a few more exploits out there being worked with, also that leaked encrypted stuff is probably also still unpatched (in case the remaining people on the project decide to do something with it)

Got my refund from Sony.

And now I'm sad.

That's the PSP2 doing it not the port itself (unless it's a PSP2 game?), I do wish they'd allow "PSP resolution" size like they do the PSX emulator's original 320x480 resolution size. :( Alas, we get stuck with uprez.

Got a question.

If I install say something like homebrew and then want to buy on PSN, will Sony be able to check my Vita files?(and see the exploit installed) I thought i read in order to avoid this, you must wipe your Memory Card? If thats so, I would have to delete all my stuff (like 10GB+) on there and be a pain in the butt lol.

Also like someone else asked, I could "clone" my memory card stuff with has that mini into another Vita and have one up to date and another on FW1.81? If so thats cool.

From what i know, the leaked stuff is exactly the same as the released one. Only time will tell if there is another game that this exploit works with, because it will definitelly be patched during the next Vita firmware update.

Fuck.

I didn't even pay attention when this thread came up.

doesnt matter anyway, my vitas screen is still broken.

But this would of justified fixing it.

What about the original one in the OP? That one says it's native Vita, I dunno what the state is with that but it was being worked on at least

I'm sure there will be another exploit soon enough.

I think the Urbanix mini has a certain "exploit" within it for instance the Monster Hunter game is not compatible with the Urbanix exploit and maybe getting it to work with it will be toughter or so.

So im not sure the next game to be revealed will have the kernel stuff working maybe just user mode/vHBL thing again. We will see thought.

Ah I see but he is releasing the source and people are already working on reverse engineering with MH...but probably not until Sony releases a patch anyway.

edit: -- see next post

Will bumb due to a Wololo blog post basically saying there is a new game being announced soon to do the kernel exploit thing (aside from Urbanix mini), apparently this tuesday will be announced.

So get your PSN wallet ready and be on the look out for the game on their site i suppose.

FYI: I think they will do a "ninja release" this weekend so if you really want this, keep an eye out on their site. (TALK forums)

Thanks for the update Darknight, from the link:

...
Not only will the game be removed from the store as soon as the announcement is public, there is the additional risk that the kernel exploit actually gets patched with an upcoming firmware.
...

Not sure it will be all that worth it if you are thinking of picking any games up this month guys.. RCR...JSR are only a week away too.

Also you were right about the kernel thing sorry it was late at night for me, but still I'm sure there are a few in the works, I remember some young guy being featured on wololo's site who had a kernel exploit with a working ps1 emulator before Sony released the support so I wouldn't be too surprised if another comes after the next patch or two anyway..that exploit wasn't released afaik..

Definitely.

If anybody from here missed the Urbanix exploit, you might want to check for a ninja release by signing in to the forums...

Even now would be a good time, since it's almost Tuesday.

I wonder when the next Vita firmware update even is. Sony is kind of slow sometimes with these things. Hopefully the next game will be a decent game I wouldn't mind buying anyways.

Is this actually a good thing?

no.

if this happens, people will pirate games, which will lead to lower video game sales. Lower video game sales means that developers will less likely invest in the Vita, since sales are low.

Less developers means less games, and less games means vita is dead.
