Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Ah I see. Thank you for the informative explanation. I guess it's back to the old PSPgo for my cfw needs.
No problem :) Yeah, you're not really missing out on much in my opinion. The Vita screen is nice, and the 2nd analog stick can be handy in some PSP game, but besides that, there isnt much that is being missed out on.

Couldn't you buy a game on PS3 and transfer it to the Vita?
You need to be connected to PSN when transfering files from the PS3 as dallow_bg mentioned. And when a game is pulled from the store, i've heard that it isnt possible to trasfer the game even if you're on the same firmware. I'm not sure if that is true, but i since you have to be connected to PSN, it is probably not that hard to blacklist the game temporary.

I put KHBBS ISO on the save file and transfered it through CMA but it won't show up.
Also, what is the best SEGA Genesis emulator?

You're better off just using FTP and putting the game straight in the ISO folder, since you're going to have to move it once it's on the system anyway (otherwise you have to retransfer it each time).

Not sure about the best Genesis emulator. I think I've seen Picodrive mentioned? Only messed with GBA myself, and not a lot at that.

Nice, thank you.
How do install an FTP , I use a mac.

http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=15714

Bottom of that post has info about FTP. Just make sure you only transfer one file at a time and set any FTP program you use to one file at a time. Doesn't work right if you try to do more than one at a time for some reason.

It's also slow as hell, but better than dealing with transferring the save data over and over again.

Thanks again,
FTPVita keep crashing the game and won't load TN at all, ah, nevermind.
I got to play KHBBS finally, I have one question though, how do I backup the save file of KHBBS ?

Which gba emu did you use? It seems like no matter what emulator I use, I just get errors and black screens.

I've copied over the save files for Gravity Crash via the CMA but the game seems to auto save when I load it up. After I overwrote the save files in CMA I booted up the game and...nothing happened. I copied the save folder into PsVita > Save Data, when that didn't work I opened up the folder and copied the files there then when that didn't work I copied over into all the sub folders within Save Data.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong...is it absolutely necessary to use open CMA?

^
Yeah
-Run game->Editor->Press START->Load level->Choose “exploit”->
-Save level
-Enjoy :)

I don't if that's what you are asking for because it wasn't clear.

I think VitaFTP is incompatible with Gravity Crash or there's something wrong with the way I did it.
Let me know if you figure it out.

Load the FTP function (when it's working with your exploit) go to /PSP/GAME/SAVE/ (IIRC) and if BBS is the only game you're playing it should be the only folder in there. Copy that out of FTP to your computer.

Otherwise you'll have to browse the save folders and look at icon0.png to see what the game is since it goes by the game-code (USPS-NNNN) for identification.

To install VitaFTP using Gravity Crash exploit:

1. Download VitaFTP

2. Inside the zip file, there should be a folder and a readme doc. Open up the folder and extract the contents of that folder to a safe location.

3. Go to where you extracted the contents and look for a file called INSTALL.ZIP. Open that and extract the EBOOT.PBP file to where you extracted everything else.

4. Now, you should have a folder with the following files:

DATA.BIN
EBOOT.PBP
ICON0.PNG
INSTALL.ZIP
PARAM.SFO

5. Take all those files and put them in the following directory (create it wherever you wish, I just use C:\ as an example):
C:\PSP\GAME\VITAFTP\ *MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS IN CAPS*

6. Right click on the PSP folder and use whatever archiving software you have to make it a ZIP file and name it VITAFTP.ZIP. Make sure that the resultant file ends in .ZIP (All caps).

7. Place the zip file in the savedata folder that ends in 01, and copy over the save using CMA or openCMA

8. I think it should be pretty obvious what to do from there :)

Doing it any other way just made the exploit not work for me for some reason (I'd select load level, exploit, save level and then receive an error and be kicked out).

How do you install homebrew through VitaFTP? I know how to through the save file but I'm stumped for the FTP... connected, but.. I'm still using those zip files, which I don't think is right.

EDIT: Figured it out.

Is this still a viable exploit, or has any of it been patched or taken off the PSN Store?

I'm almost ready to take the plunge and buy a Vita to prepare for Persona 4 Golden coming out soon, but if it's still capable of being Homebrew'd that'd push me over the edge to run out and buy one today.

I want to see Birth By Sleep on that beautiful screen.

GPSP Kai 3.4 Test 3 something or other. Only tested a couple games real quick but they worked fine.

Don't remember if that was recommended here specifically or if it was the version I found.

The game has almost certainly been taken down, it went down in Japan and the EU store a couple days ago.

When trying to load the Gravity Crash exploit save, nothing happens. When I turned on my Vita from idle before, the game installed again... that didn't sound good to me.

Assuming you've put the exploit in the save file...

  1. Load the game.
  2. Go to the editor.
  3. Load level "exploit"
  4. Save level "exploit"

It should run the exploit at that point.

I feel like this is hardly worth it... Can't even get SNES games to run full speed. Mario screen tears like a bitch... Daedelus can't run my mario kart... I don't know if I have the latest versions or what...

On the plus side... "Retrode" gave me a 'relatively cheap' way to rip my games...

EDIT: Graphical errors up in dis bitch too... Snes9xTYL 0.4.2

Based on what I've read in this topic SNES emulation doesn't work very well. I only tested GBA for a couple minutes with two games and they ran fine though, and others seemed to have had good luck with Genesis games.

As with PSP, GBA is great, SNES sucks. I've been saying from the start that one of the most exciting possibilities of Vita hacking is that I might one day play Super Mario Kart at 60fps on a handheld. Super Circuit is great and all, but SMK is what I want, dammit.

So many people seem to say this PSP emulation on Vita is 'good enough', but it's not. It never was! Have these people never played a SNES?

Well, this is lame. I only have old Snes and Genesis games... I guess I can try my genesis carts... I don't have much though, just like.. Sonic 1-3 and streets of rage 2... Uuggh.. I wants muh Mario.

Holy crap, I'm trying to use that F2P thing and it estimates 8 hour transfer ;_; I thought this was supposed to be the faster way ...

Would someone mind putting together a quick sparknotes version of what's actually been hacked so far? This thread is huge, and the earlier posts seem pretty outdated. What can actually be loaded onto the Vita? Is it legitimately "hacked", as in custom firmware?

Can i install a Snes emulator while i am on 1.81 with the Urbaniix exploit?

I want to play Chrono trigger.

Edit: nvm, installed it :)/

You can play UMD backups and PSP homebrew apps. That's it.

Is there a trustworthy guide on how to do this somewhere?

I don't think so. Can I buy them in a brick and mortar store, or does it have to be through PSN?

Gamestop.com is still selling digital downloads of Gravity Crash Portable, the latest exploited game. Doubt the code would actually work tho, since it was pulled from the store.

Hmmm, that'd be interesting to try. I mean, can they sell a digital copy of a game in store without it actually downloading when you get home?

fyi, fw 2.00 update comes out next week

What's the best way to delete my homebrew stuff from my memory card? Launch the exploit and delete from the menu there? It seems like there's no way to delete it outside of it

FTP to delete anything you moved to various folders you can't deal with through the menu, and once you've cleared that, replace the exploit save file with a clean one using CMA?

I would think you just delete the save file of that game from the Vita, which you can do in settings.
All the homebrew stuff is saved within that save file.

:lol @ turn around here and at wololo's site simply because a rental service is coming. But whatever.

Probably gonna delete the cfw files as well. but i'm wondering if i leave the fft patch fix files in, if they'll still work on the game... dunno if it's worth the risk that the files mess something else up after the update though
