Vita PSN Game And Service Thread

Now that I've had my Vita for a couple of weeks, I've got to say—I love how Sony beat the Wii U to the punch when it comes to this integrated comments and activity social aspect, but seemingly had no idea what to really do with it.

If you could actually create new posts, and have that whole aspect more prominent in the OS, it'd be awesome. Instead, it's simply following up on automated activity notices. Really feels like a great feature that could have been so much more with a little extra effort.

Near has already been very well improved since february and actually in the last weeks I started seeing a lot of comments on my friends activity... I think that in the next update they could easily add a custom user comment ^_^

Anyway Yes, Near is an underappreciated and beautiful Vita Feature

Edit - beaten by Takao ^_^'

Speaking of Motorstorm, why the hell is Arctic Edge not on PSN? I have it for PSP, but man would it be nice to play on the Vita. Whenever I get it into my head to play it, I try to turn on my PSP, but it's always dead due to non-use.

PUT MOTORSTORM ARCTIC EDGE ON PSN, SONY!

It's just been introduced to Vita, so I think that stuff will be up for quite awhile.

I'll trade you for burnout. EU has arctic edge. Don't know why a Sony published game isn't available everywhere?

I don't know why I can't figure this out.

Someone said you can back up your saves to the cloud..? I mean, I have all the automated stuff set up, but I don't see a way to manually back anything up.

edit:

Oh, are we posting speed test results? Alway happy to contribue. heh.

Just a note - the automated stuff isn't backing up your saves at the moment. Sony is working on a fix. So upload them manually for now using content manager.

Hey Gaf Vita firmware 2.0 alert (or at least a problem since when I updated to firmware 2.0)

I activated Email notifications but since then I have a lot of freezes when I recieve email notificazion and I try to access an application or game after a long standby (for example night time)

Did you have similar problems?

Bleh, I beat Uncharted today and then deleted it from my system to make space. As it was deleting I remembered I didn't upload my save data so now it's gone. Is there any word on an update that fixes this? Surely this can't be working as intended.

It can be done easily.... Savegame is a separate folder accessible via Content Manager...

They did mention on the Blog / Twitter feed that it seems to be broken (auto upload of saves) and that they are working on fixing it.

I was wondering about it too, because I didn't see any messages in the morning telling me that the saves had been uploaded. So for now, it's a manual process.

And: Anyone who'd play chess with me here?
My daughters found a chess set at my parents over the weekend, so I spent some time teaching them the rules and I'm now really tempted to pick this up. I know how to play but have never really played it.

This supports asynchronous online, right? Can you also play two player on a single Vita?

Question for European users importing P4G. Wtf are you doing ? you know this is coming over here in Feb right ? if you all import it who is going to buy it when it gets here ?
I'll be making it my first Persona game when it launches over here.

I find that my Vita download speeds are miles slower than my PS3. I usually hit 6-7mb down off PSN via PS3, but only about 2mb via Vita.

I have my PS3 wired via ethernet, never messed with any other settings.

Same here, I assume it's just shitty wireless on my BT hub. Will replace it with a better quality Netgear soon.

Speaking of speed tests, why does my internet dl from PSN and everywhere else at about 1.2mb/s when my speed test is about 15mbs?
Does PSN report MB/s or Mb/s? I can't remember.

Gah I need to spend this $10 for the free $10 credit back! However no cheap games are jumping out at me at the moment...

Thinking of maybe just getting a full game out of possibly Need for Speed Most Wanted, and Persona 4 Golden.

Most people here seem rather obsessed with Persona... I've never personally played one.

it's a Beary good game as long as you don't hate JRPGs

Just started Gravity Rush, played untill I could save (after wich I found out the game auto-saves...)

Great Scott.

You guy's (and gals) didn't lie, this is great! :D City's a bit confusing though.

I certainly don't hate JRPGs, the whole school setting and leveling via Persona's has always seemed a tad odd in the reviews I watched.

Only problem is the supposed length of Persona, given I'm only about half way through Disgaea 3 and struggling to convince myself to continue with it.

Why exactly?
I don't know exactly, it just felt confusing. Got really low and it took awhile to figure out how to get to the high street level.
That being said, i've played for one hour+ something while being terribly tired, so that may have something to do with it. :P

My Persona screen protector is jacked to oblivion. Got a crease in it so I can't use it anymore :(

Didn't really match with the white anyway tbh

Between the Sony screen protector and the Hori one which one should I go with?

Heard lots of good things about the Hori one - I have the Sony one on my black Vita and it's a fingerprint and smudge magnet :(

Not sure if I'll get the Hori one for my white Vita or just go without!

while there is indeed a school setting a large chunk of the game takes place outside of the school.

As for the leveling via persona's for everyone but the main character it works just the same as normal leveling would, it is just shown as the power with in them growing instead of their body. For the main character it's really not much different than being a pokemon trainer. You select which pokemon you want to start the battle with, and can change which pokemon you are using at the cost of a turn. Each pokemon has it's own weaknesses and abilities and level. The only big difference is with persona your pokemon all share one life pool instead of each having their own. You don't collect pokemon by capturing them with balls though, you either get them through bonus games played after battle, or by fusing old pokemon together to make new ones.

Instead of badges deciding if a persona will listen to you, it's your characters level, which levels with battle EXP as well. If you aren't of an equal level to the persona you can't fuse to make it nor can you win one at the end of battle. This is where social links come in though, as when you work on social links not only do you get usually an interesting story but you earn bonuses when you fuse new persona, which can allow you to create persona that are much higher level then you could normally handle, and since your stats for the most part are based off your persona, can really give you a power boost.

As for disgaea 3 when you say you are about halfway done with it, I assume you mean the story, which really more puts you at about 5% done from seeing everything the game has to offer lol. I am curious what issue you are having though. I figure that the story battles are requiring a lot of grinding to do, and that would be the issue. There are plenty of ways to speed that up though, especially if you are cool with playing disgaea as a puzzle game instead of rpg for a bit lol.

Bought Motorstorm RC for the low low plus price.

Can't... stop.. playing.. must.. beat.. leaderboards..

Took me about 30 attempts to beat one of Shahed's times, but goddamn it was worth it.
kinda.

Thanks for all the info RE Persona. It certainly sounds very interesting and has excellent ratings so I've gone ahead and purchased it!

RE Disgaea yeah I'm talking about the Story mode, I'm aware there is a huge amount outside of that, especially since I put about 300 hours into the first one on the PS2.

If you have any guides on quick leveling for really low level characters that would be nice. The new skill leveling mechanic is annoying me as well, given you need to spend mana to level it up rather than just getting as you use it... I get frustrated trying to kill stuff with healers when I should be using them to heal...

I'm sure I'm doing it all wrong >_<
If anybody posts any responses ill read them tomorrow, crashing for the night.

Well, gravity rush started out great but that stealth mission is garbage. If they have to start explaining to you what you have to do after failing lots of times, it's just bad game design. Good thing I got it for free, because I don't think I'll be playing much more of it.

Good, good. More people will finally come to my side.

Gravity Rush is the Jet Set Radio of this generation. All style no substance.

If it's any consolation, that's the only thing like that I've seen so far and I'm quite a ways past that part.

Wait until you get to the fourth (I think) city which seems to be the largest. So much stuff to explore and to collect.

The game knocked my socks off. I'm having so much fun just collecting gems and leveling up everything. Just wonderful. Can't wait for the sequel. :D

I got the message...

I'll be getting at it over the next few days

So easy to get sidetracked. I spent like ages collecting gems each new location. I'd say I'd only get the ones on the next roof and then carry on with the game. But there was always another I could see so I just kept going...

I still think a proper motorstorm game would show off the system more and sell well. Have it look good, include a full festival campaign and custom race mode, 8-16 player multiplayer and some vita unique stuff

BAM

Great game

Absolutely. And also the excellent leaderboards, challenges and ghosts system.

Once you figure out the path, it's really not hard at all (and yeah, it's the only mission like that in the game, from what I remember.)

Concentrate more on finding the correct path, rather than "OMG, it's STEALTH in a non-stealth game!". I took it more as a platform segment, rather than a pure stealth thing. It's also a rather quick section.

It's funny that for all the "I wish this game had more varied missions!" talk GR gets, it's the times where they try to offer variety, that end up bugging people the most...

I'd much rather have something like Wipeout RC, but still keeping the powers and the like. After getting all the medals when Motorstorm first came out, Wipeout was my first thought

I bet Sony has MotorStorm: Arctic Edge sales figures that prove you wrong.

The thing is, the solution they give you after failing a number of times is not an obvious one. Also you can't see the agents and you stop shifting once they see you. Variation is great, but not if it is executed badly.

I'll see if I enjoy the missions past this one. I'm not really feeling the controls yet though, it all feels a bit unwieldy.

Co worker who scratched my Vita months ago bought a Vita...

everything is ruined.

Motorstorm is not a seller IP, all four did awful on PS3,PS2and PSP.

I think Motorstorm IP is dead now because Sony's Evolution hired Project Gotham Racing lead designer so I guess they want to make something like NFS ,Forza Horizon or PGR now.(also I think it will be Evolution's last chance)

You wish! :)

Did you beat all of them? I just beat every score yesterday and my game doesnt show me any updated scores yet. Which tracks did you beat me on? Feel free to write me a message next time once you beat a score :)

if all you are planning on doing is completing the story mode then a few abuses of the item world will do the trick (this works in all of the disgaeas after 1 for the record one didn't have hidden rooms so it's much more tedious to power level)

When I mentioned playing disgaea as a puzzle game it was in reference to abusing item world. Note: most of my time doing this was with disgaea 2 so things might be slightly off as it has been a while since I played 3, but in general it should apply.

optional step 1: obtain some Mr. gency exits, these will only matter if want to save your progress if you run into some bad luck. They can easily be obtained by clearing the 10th floor of a low level item.

Step 1: Get a move that pushes enemies around, in general the fist weapon's triple strike is best as it's quick to get, and cheap to use. there are plenty of other moves, and with other moves the chance for fail drops more, but with triple strike as long as the gate to the next level isn't put in a corner you should be ok.

optional step 2: get someone that has wings so they can move through enemy squares. it's not a must but it will help. In disgaea 2 I used Tink a lot, in 3 a simple moth moster will do the trick.

Step 3: save and then find your highest level and go into it, a 100+ enemy item is best, but if you don't have one you will ideally pick one up during this. Don't worry about fighting the enemies, this is now a puzzle game, the goal of which is to get into a Mystery Gates or next floor before the enemies get a turn to murder you.

step 4. check the level for a Mystery Gates, if there isn't one just make your way to the next floor portal. If there is an enemy on the portal use the move that moves enemies on it to clear the portal. I would also recommend checking for critical geo squares, as those are easy exp/items for killing things on them as a level 1 character can kill a level 9999 on a crit square if they hit.

step 5: repeat step 4 until you find a Mystery Gates with any luck the hidden room will contain a chest. not all hidden rooms are good and some will rock your world, but when you do get lucky you will have an item way more powerful than you should, the end result usually is enough for a single character to be able to clear all of story mode if you can get a piece of armor and a weapon.

Step 6: if you make it to floor 10 you will want to leave, I can't remember if disgaea 3 has innocent town like disgea 2 did... if it does you will want to go there as there are often free items lying around.

in general this method requires a little luck, but I find it to actually be an enjoyable puzzle game and a different way to play disgaea in general. at the very worst case you will level up your most powerful weapon which will help as well. I am sure there are other ways to get more powerful (disgaea 2 had the nekomata abuse that you could do to net a level 9999 character when you were level 15 or so lol) but it's my general powering up strat in disgaea games. I find it usually takes about 2 hours to go from the story battles are hard to being a god that walks through all of the story battles, at which time I tend to try do the story mode with other characters and if i am having trouble bring out my god character. I hope this helps, i am sure there is a better guide for this online that coverers alterations for the method for disgaea 3. 3 is the one I played the least because I couldn't wait for it and ended up playing disgaea 2 for 250 hours the month before 3 came out and burned myself out on disgaea for a bit lol... I am looking forward to playing it again on the vita though.

I will send you challenges but you're not at the top of every leaderboard you know! :P

I'm at the top on just one (go me lol) but you've been beaten on a few others as well.

No, not all of them. The one I sent you a message about was the one I tried most on, I didn't want to try and beat times and then dump a whole lot of messages on you.

I doubt I'll be able to beat some of those times but I haven't really given it a proper try yet, I will later. Feel free to send me challenges though!

One word of warning.

You're going to reach a point somewhere between Episode 6-11 where you start to hate the combat and the controls. It's almost inevitable. Your degree of hate may vary, but you're going to get frustrated to some degree.

Muscle through it. The last half of the game seriously ramps up in terms of story and excitement. The first half of the game took me well over a month to finally get through, whereas the last half took me less than two days. :P SO good.

I was greeted today for the first time with "You need 1.6 GB of free space to install this content". This with a 16 GB and going almost all retail. Feels bad, man. :(

On the bright side, SAB CA, TGH, Laguna and other PBR Vitabros, let's play online later today.

Well, yeah. I can only speak for the ones I have beaten all my friends in, lol. Can't compare to others :)
Which was the one you beat me in? Need to correct that :p
