Vita PSN Game And Service Thread

Sorry, assumed it would be the same in the US as it is in the EU (where there is a category on the top advertisements and in the categories)

No, unfortunately. That's why I was hoping there was a store update soon since it would make sense since it just came out but is clunky now that it is a thing.

Makes more sense to launch it high and drop the price later than it does to launch it at a low price.

And I dont think I necessarily agree. Sure you got more income from the ones who definitely bought your product, but its also a bit of a foggy area in that regard since we dont know how many more would buy the product if its price is 1/3 lower and whether it would make up for the lower price.

I mean, we dont know. Could be, but not really all that interesting to argue about.

What is important though, is that companies need to consider customer loyalty or however the term is called for what I am talking about. You have people buying the game at 30$, then you drop the price after 2 weeks? Burning people like that is bad PR. The next time a game from your company is released no one will buy it for 2 weeks and then you are FORCED to lower it, since people dont buy otherwise. Which also means they robbed themselves of a meaningful first week for their next product.

Also, they need to consider that first week sales are the most important sales for Indie games in the big stores. Its the only time they actually get some "free" advertisement from the store front, and if there werent too many other releases, also get free advertisement by word of mouth if more people pick it up. If they lower it later, that initial "first week boost" is gone and has less impact overall.

I mean... as I said, we dont have any concrete data, but thats my take on it anyway and why I think that overpricing just for the sake of overpricing isnt doing anyone good. Neither the customers, nor the company.

Sure it does :D

Say 10 people are willing to pay $30
10 are willing to pay $20
10 are willing to pay $10

You can either sell it for $10 and all 30 will buy it, and you will make $300. OR you can sell it for $30 to the 10 people who will pay that much; then sell it for $20 to the people who will pay that much; then sell it for $10 to the people who will pay that much - and you make $600. Which would you do? :D

You are joking right? :P

Because you could theoretically reach double the amount of buyers (or whatever) if you lower the price by 1/3.

30$ - 10 buyers - 300$
20$ - 20 buyers - 400$

Thats what I meant with its hard to argue about, since we dont know what actual impact it would have. However, a lower price point DEFINITELY leads to more purchases. We just dont know how many more.

Does the Gyro stuff stop working for you guys sometimes?...I was playing Mutant Blob last evening and trying to find the second friend in the extra Gyro level,it was completly wacked,I had to turn the Vita all the way around for it to work...

Can't wait to see tomorrow the new rentals and shitty discounts for EU.
If not I'll trade it for a Wii to enjoy a 1st class digital service.

I have to say, Gravity Rush is surprisingly fun. I didn't expect to enjoy it like this.

Most games are. Thats also why I was a bit put aback by your earlier comment about "Cant wait to see more interesting games since not much interests me atm". The Vita already has quite a few very interesting games if you are open minded for many genres. Its just... people usually dont realize until they try. Make sure to devote a weekend to downloading the plethora of demos to check all the games out individually :) Some people got hooked on Golf, Tennis or even a Brain Age game without thinking they'd enjoy it before.

I dont want to put down your opinion though, sorry if that just sounded like I was doing that. Its perfectly fine to try games and not like them. But as I said, from what I got so far in this thread most Vita games are better than what people perceive them to be before actually trying.

There are some... exceptions though.

You just agreed with what i said :P If you sell it for $30 first, then drop it to $20, you'd make $700.

Also what is with this assassins creed that came with the bundle lol. Comes in some plastic thing. I don't want it but can you even trade that in? Who is going to buy this.

No, I meant 20$ INSTEAD of 30$.

You have 2 theoretical starting week, one starting with 30$, another one with 20$. Depending how much of an impact that lowered price point has, the lower price point could lead to more people buying the game in the first week, meaning more income from that first week alone.

Example data from my arse:

scenario 1 (lowered price point after a week):

1st week - 30$ - 10 buyers - 300 income
2nd week - 20$ - 15 buyers - 300 income
3rd week - 20$ - 5 buyers - 100 income

Overall income: 700$

scenario 2 (constant price):

1st week - 20$ - 20 buyers - 400 income
2nd week - 20$ - 10 buyers - 200 income
3rd week - 20$ - 5 buyers - 100 income

Overall income: 700$

In this example both possibilities would result in the exact same income and its hard to say whether an initial earlier price would lead to more income for the first week, or whether more buyers would. However, more buyers in the first week, also means more word of mouth, which in turn means more sales.

Just saying that overpricing isnt necessarily the best decision :P

How dare you all continue posting while I'm away from a PC.

*whistle*
Downloading.

Ah shit, this was meant to be top of next page. Failure. Anyway, don't forget to retweet this if you want a cool dungeon crawler on Vita https://twitter.com/CreatStudios/status/273494613640224768
Done and done.

Sony is working on a big YOPO dungeon crawler called Warrior's Lair. Doesn't come out until next year though. :(
Still can't believe they changed the name. Ruin sounds great.

I don't think they've canned it.

Yet.
This had better not happen. :(

Added Number45 for Chess. Anyone else who is interested in another PSN friend for chess matches (Pure Chess)?
Challenge accepted. Be gentle, this is probably my first game of chess since school (and I honestly can't remember if I played a full match back then either). </dementia>

Obviously I haven't tried many but from a glance most don't interest me or are ports of games I played to death. Street fighter, rayman, ninja gaiden, etc. are excellent games but I've already played them and want something fresh which is where it feels like there is a lull in games currently. The ones that don't fall into that I have to try yet. I am looking forward to uncharted, hot shots golf, wipeout, gravity rush, and a couple others though. It's not the vita's fault, it's just many are multiplatform and I bought them on another platform since I didn't own a vita.

Edit: Oh, and I want to play assassin's creed obviously since that's the whole reason I got it.
I'd say yes.

What? WHAT? It's a rental! Shitty discounts! No native res! It haz no gamez! run! run! RUN!

I'm already on episode 2 after like 10 mins and have 3 trophies... Maybe it is just like a rental/freeware game?

:P

Haha, dont worry, I even started with an, lets call it "experimental", opening that you shouldnt do usually since it could bite me quite enourmously in my arse. Just enjoy the tinkering on the chess board!

Lets have some fun :)

So much love in here its like we're a movement. Had a talk with a TellTale employee and he sent my request for the Walking Dead Vita port up to the production team. Matt said they know the support for a Vita version is there and they will see what happens. Hoooaaah!

Great! Haven't played the game yet but would prefer to do so on the Vita.

on my way home to discover if the delivery man dropped a 200$ vita package or 10$ sunglass package.

shoot me in the face if its the latter.

thoughts of the first things i should do with it if it's the vita?

If you don't open your mouth, no one will hear you. I want everything good to grace the Vita's oled

Tell the Pure Chess devs to throw out some challenges DLC. It wont take more than a few days to make and I think quite a few would pick it up at a 1 or 2$ price point.

They already have it in place but its only like 100 challenges so far >_>

Been a plus user for the first one year and then I stopped because I haven't been using my PS3 as much. With the Vita again, I just started subscribing again, keep me happy this time Sony.

But then there are clearly 35 people willing to pay $20 :P

ANYWAY who cares.

Haha, sorry :) I actually do like to talk about how these factors influence games... as you probably might have noticed *cough*
