Vita PSN Game And Service Thread

Speaking of patches (I think this has been discussed), how quickly (or not) do they download on the Vita? I've never experienced the horrendous times some people have on the PS3, but still take a lot longer than it should.
Guess I'll finally get to see firsthand in two more days!

Personally my downloads are really slow on PS3, but have always been rather fast on my Vita. Patches aren't too bad. Obviously it depends on the size, but none have ever taken an annoying amount of time for me.

Also, it helps the the patching system is much better on Vita - you can patch the game without having to boot it, and it downloads in the background.

No problem. It's not the best thing ever but it's pretty damn cool

Tried to play some Minecraft and rFactor on it, it's pretty neat haha

Is there any way to change the keys the Vita's buttons are mapped to? Couldn't do much in Minecraft besides walking :P

Edit: Tried Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 too, the screen flickers on the Vita while running it :/ Would be awesome otherwise. I'll have to try RCT2 some time.

Hmm is there a PSN Price for AC:L yet? (EU)
Want to know if I should pre-order retail or buy it on Wednesday

No price confirmed yet. But there's a ACL and AC3 bundle, and there's AC3 separately on the Store already. So if you take the AC3 price away from the bundle price, surely that's what ACL will cost?

One would hope so, anyway. I'm expecting/hoping for it to be £34.99

That sounds great, thanks for the info. Was always annoying that we had to wait for the patch to download and install before we could play the game.

Not sure how I feel about the Dualshock/Vita transformation. It's its own platform, not some crazy new PS3 peripheral.

After seeing the WiiU, I betcha the Vita will become more and more a gamepad for the PS3 and PS4. It won't be universal, but I would not be surprised that Sony goes in that direction. If a WiiU Pad costs almost as much as a Vita, well there ya go.

Because of Sandy all I'm thinking about is how long my Vita's battery will last if my power goes out (it will) lol. How long do you guys think I'll be able to play FFVI or Retro City Rampage?

#gamechanger

never stop playing*

*This was their real marketing slogan.

Haha I know. Its clear that Sony does not know how to effectively market the product.

Five, maybe six hours? Don't know for sure. Sure at least be able to get that though.

#gamechanger was such a janky thing used for a whole bunch of stuff. #neverstopplaying at the very least is a bit more specific. No one wants to hit that hash tag and read "I used the 4 blade razor to shave my pubes this morning, no cuts #gamechanger".

Dunno. Turn your brightness down as much as you can stand. Put it in aeroplane mode/turn WiFi off.. Sitck your headphones in and turn the volume down a bit. Do as much power-saving stuff as you can to get the most hours you can.

Then i should think you'll manage 6 hours or so.

Exactly. We're living in an era where people from all ages buy portable gadgets to consume all kinds of content, Sony has an excellent machine in that category and what do they do? Advertise it for the 18-25 male audience, and make it look like a PS3 accessory on top of that.

I know it gets said all the time but it's worth repeating that the marketing department at Sony is the most incompetent I've ever seen for any kind of product.

In addition to Carl's tips it's worth noting that PSP and PS1 games use significantly less battery.

Hmm.

From several different playtests, four hours and 10 minutes turns out to be the average number for general gaming use with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled, and with brightness and sound levels each set to 50 per cent. This 'average use' test involves playing a sequence of technically demanding games in 30-45 minutes increments, such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss and WipEout 2048, as well as less taxing titles such as Top Darts and Escape Plan.

The worst-case scenario test gives us a total of three hours and 40 minutes of play before the Vita conks out, with test conditions in this case involving a non-stop playthrough of Uncharted's earlier levels with all wireless connections enabled, and with maximum brightness and sound set.

I should be able to get a few more hours than that if I turn everything off/down.

Edit:

In addition to Carl's tips it's worth noting that PSP and PS1 games use significantly less battery.

Yup.

Quickly go buy a few of those back up battery packs and charge em!

My Twitter client actually updates me on my last topic search. Over the weekend I used "#YOPO" because of that Ratchet thread I made. Most of the tweets I got made me think people can even mistype "#YOLO".

I look around and your right

this is very weird

Yeah. I haven't really done that specific test, but I just figured you would get AT LEAST five or six hours. Probably more realistically.

Yeah exactly. Even in normal conditions (connected to PSN, maximum brightness, high volume) i usually get about 4 and a half hours out of it. So you should definitely manage more than 6 if you turn everything off.

An Assassin's Creed: Liberation commercial sighting, on Fox, football. Actually pretty good. Some good shots of the game.

White Vita, you will be mine. Shipping soon on Amazon.
