Vita PSN Game And Service Thread

Speaking of hardware issues, my Vita has crashed on me 4 times in the past 4 months. Once on Ridge Racer, once on Silent Hill and twice on EDF.

Love the console and all, but I never had any type of issues on the 3DS. I hope these issues get patched or something. Hope to god it's not physically damaged or something.

Question for the Vitabros:

Do you own a 3DS in addition to your Vita? Which to you end up using more often?

Yes, around May-July 2011. I used the 3DS quite a bit before I had a vita, I'd play and finish any game that interested me. There was more drought than with the Vita, first game was Pilotwings, then I had to wait a couple of weeks for Dead or Alive Dimensions, Zelda weeks after. Then a long drought until around November and December, when Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 came. Then it was playing nes and gba games until February, there are still 3 GBA games left to play.

I received a Vita around 16 April with 3 games as a gift. I wasn't planning on getting a Vita anytime soon. 3 games would have been enough for a while, but a lot of demos surprised and convinced me to get more games. I ended up building a large backlog with around 18 games including retail and PSN. I have been playing mostly on the Vita ever since, pretty much 90% of the time. Now I have cleared all the games except for Rayman Origins (planning on playing this after clearing Rayman 2 and 3). I played New Super Mario Bros. 2, Sonic Generations and Theathrythm FF on the 3DS in that time.

In the meantime, I created a backlog on the 3DS. By not having the time to play on it. Now there are around 5 retail games and 7 digital games left to play. I'm going to focus more on the 3DS now while waiting for new Vita games and to clear that backlog as well. I enjoy playing on the 3DS, there are benefits and good exclusives on it. As a hardware, I enjoy it far more than the DS. If I have to choose, I prefer playing on the Vita but they rather work well together. You get the best of both worlds.

Id go with Half Minute Hero. Look it up on youtube.

Good recommendation, played it already though on PSP.

Any other crystal clear 2D psp games on VITA?

List so far:
What did I do to deserve this my Lord? 1
What did I do to deserve this my Lord? 2
No Heroes Allowed
Half Minute Hero

I guess some of the older final fantasies should look great too?

Same here. It kept crashing three times straigh a couple of days ago. Even though there was internet on the Vita, I kept getting an error where the device wouldn't connect to the server when playing games. I dunno what the deal was, but I really hated it. A couple of days before I lost my progress for Treasure Park :/ The system turned itself off and pretended like I was playing the game for the first time.

I've had the 3DS crash on me before but it was more minor and rare. It's very frustrating that it's happening with handhelds now for whatever reason.

That is what I had to do but I lost about 2 hours of play. Ive had trouble waking it up many times since I have owned it.

Thanks for the help whoever responded..

Get a warranty replacement, you got a lemon. My Vita has never failed to return from sleep mode except when the battery is so drained it becomes unresponsive - and even then it comes back from sleep like nothing happened after I plug it in for a minute or two. It only gets completely turned off if I need to change PSN accounts.

What about the cladun games? Haven't played them personally but they artstyle seems fitting.

Ah I think I read somewhere that the Cladun games might fit that description as well. Are they good and fun games?

Current list:

What did I do to deserve this my Lord? 1

No Heroes Allowed
Half Minute Hero
ClaDun
ClaDun x2

Any other PSP 2D games that look crystal clear and might very well be native resolution on Vita?

More suggestions for PSP eye candy please! :)

My favourite games from the PSP and still play them on my vita. They are top down 2D dungeon crawlers with fantastic risk/reward mechanics.

Highly recommend picking them up. X2 expands some of the customisation options but the core gameplay remains the same in both.

How do these games look on Vita, anyone own them?

-Dragons Lair
-Riviera
-Loco Roco 2
-Half Minute Hero
-Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max
-Yggdra Union
-Gungnir
-Knights in the Nightmare
-Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins
-Zenonia
-Blast Off
-Monsters (probably) Stole My Princess
- Prinny
- Final Fantasy I, II and IV
- Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time

Short gameplay impressions appreciated as well. Some might not be 2D, havent looked them all up.

Thanks! Will likely pick up one.

I own both. I love 3DS, enough to also have uograded to the XL, also have 28 retail 3DS games, too.

Ive played 3DS far more than Vita, which i pockedup on launch in the US. Ive since also picked up a white Vita (ACL bundle), too.
I have 12 retail games, growing to 15 by the end of the month. ive loved the Vita since day one, but now the library is finally picking up and the games ive been waiting for are arriving (ACL and NFSMW).

As of right now, im playing Vita more than my XL, but i go back and forth. Each system is unique, has unique fearures and a solid library. The games are different enough that the systems are more complimentary to eachother than anything. Im not a one or the other gamer. I want the best of both worlds and many different gaming exoeriences, each system has strengths and weaknesses.

Honestly, i have played my 3DS mors, as more games im intersted in, have had steady releases this year. but Vita is taking moreattention as of late.

I have a 3ds and a vita and I love them both. Plenty of awesome games for both. My daughter loves my vita. She wants to play sunflowers constantly. My wife is always stealing it to play PvZ pinball.

Final Fantasy IV and Yggdra Union look phenomenal, the sprite art looks beautiful when scaled up. Definitely leave bilinear filtering off for both! I actually think a lot of PSP games look kind of crappy when blown up to the size of Vita screen, but these two were clear improvements to me (and yes, I did side by side comparisons, hah).

Yggdra Union was enjoyable for the few hours I played, before getting distracted by other games. I was blown away by how good FFIV was - I'd never played it before, bought it as a curiosity, and ended up beating it within a week or so. It absolutely holds up today, probably more so than any game of that era I've played and didn't have any nostalgia for.

UGnG is an excellent game and I love it. IMHO it looks great, specially since it animates great. In stills it looks very ugly though.

I play whichever indiscriminately, but I must say that I couldn't stand the original 3DS (physically painful). Now that I've upgraded to an XL, playing games on that platform is a lot more pleasant for me.

My Vita will likely get most of my attention until Fire Emblem, Etrian IV, or (hopefully) SMT IV come out. There is literally nothing else currently announced for the 3DS next year that I'm interested in besides maybe Smash Bros. or MH4 down the line. I adore the DS Castlevanias, but the new one looks awful, and games like Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, and that horrible Mickey platformer that just got a demo do little for me. Tri G will be a Wii U purchase because of its internet connectivity.

Kid Icarus: Uprising may very well be my GotY in 2012, though, so it's not like I feel the 3DS doesn't already have some quality software on it or anything.

I own a few of those (SFA3 Max, Yggdra, Knights, UGnG) and think they look far better on Vita than PSP. The only PSP games I don't think look that spectacular are the heavily dithered ones, but, even then, they still look better than they did before due to the OLED. I was worried most about 2D games being blurry or whatever, but they look great to me. Anyway, beyond that, the better buttons/d-pad/stick and response time make PSP games so much better on the Vita.

As for recommendations, I only would suggest staying away from Sting's games (Riviera, Yggdra, Knights, Gungnir) unless you know what you're getting into. I think Yggdra and KitN are terrible, and you have no idea how much I wanted to like them. Evolution 2 (not on your list but another Sting game I played on Dreamcast) was also pretty atrocious. Because of these experiences, I don't even want to touch Riviera or Gungnir.

I've noticed that PSP games on the Vita have slightly off colors. At least yellow is instead somewhat orange-ish.

Like for instance, in PuzzleQuest, which otherwise looks very nice, the gold pieces instead look like rounds of cheese, instead of gold, they are yellow-orange. Same with DOA Paradise, looks nice, but the beaches with golden sand are orange-yellow.

But I really thought the PSP-3000 had a bright, colorful screen until I compared it to the Vita. Not even close.

Have you tried PSP-color mode?

Excited for Sly 4. Anybody else?

I just found this video for it and, seriously, it looks native res. I know it's hard to tell for sure from a video that's not direct feed but the video's extremely clear and it looks very very sharp. Would be awesome to have a big 3D platformer in native resolution.

VITABROS!

Call of Duty or Ragnarok Odyssey?

Discuss!

Why can't I hold all these hats!

I'll admit, Vocaloid-powered music is not quite what I expected.

What are the odds of this coming out stateside? We HAVE been getting quite a few unexpected localization announcements.

Didn't 7th Dragon 2020 use Miku music.

Eh I guess by then I'll be dying for new stuff to play on Vita. I've never been a big Sly fan because it has always been a piss easy series with 0 challenging platforming. I actually played the demo the other day since I picked up the Ratchet HD Collection, which I didn't even know there was a demo, but it felt exactly the same as all the other Slys. Equally brain dead-easy too.

I wouldn't be surprised, the game has already been confirmed to run at 30 frames.

capcom published more games on the wonderswan than they have vita so far

wonderswan was only released in japan

I had no idea that everybody had to make a translucent system/peripheral back then.

On a side note, the Vita desperately needs a Pandora app. Music Unlimited is cool and all, but who pays money to stream music?
