God damn, anyone remember when I said I bought the Vita for a friend in Germany for 150€ including PSASBR? (I'll give him my spare 8-16gb card, so its a full bundle vita gift for about 150€.)

Now Amazon wrote me "Hello, there was an offer..." and will give me LBP for free on top, so that results in a 150€ Vita including LBP and PSASBR. Thats like... 80€ for the console. Crazy.

Not to mention PS+ freebies, since he already owns PS+ of course.

Got a 29.3. It's annoying though because I'm sure I can shave off another 2 tenths. That blasted 4th car under the bridge! Keeps getting in the way...

I enjoyed my first time through yesterday *shrug*

I enjoyed the first two arcade playthroughs with two different characters.. then it just went downhill... the stories are tacked on, if you can call them "stories", and the fights get repetitive in single player mode.. the game is really good, but arcade mode is a chore to play through for the trophies..

Oh nice :) Will try once more. In case I beat it, you'll get a PSN message.

Ok, so in this video I just watched, Aram applies the Persona 4 skin. But afterwards, he shows off the system with the wallpapers. And he scrolls through them all - horizontally! Tell me this is a setting on the system that I've somehow missed all these months since launch!

What is this dark magic?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-84oUL8uqQo#t=2m16s

Wait... the skin has a screen protector?? Aw... this ruins my plans of integrating it with my current screen protector. I don't trust taking mine off and putting that on because I might get bored of it later... Sigh it will get rid of those disgusting fingerprints that I always put on my Vita.

Also, WHY IS NEWEGG SHIPPING SO TERRIBLE?! I'm STILL waiting for my P4G copy. The tracking dropped off last friday when "it was handed off to USPS" ... USPS has nothing in regards to shipping tracking. Sigh I just want my copy of P4G... although it's probably better that I don't get it yet because I want to finish my platinum for NLKS and PSABR.

Asynchronous online play, yep. And 2 players can also play on the same console.

Alright, some impressions. Lets start off with the basic features:

There are offline modes, either vs the KI in exhibition or tournament matches, or as hotseat vs another human. Of course it also has the asynchronous play. Extras is nothing of importance, just credits etc.

The 38 tutorials look like this:

..and they serve as a rudimentary introduction to the game and chess itself. It explains how to move & use the cameras as well as some chess principles as En Passent. Its nothing fancy, but most of the time they let you do one move yourself that shows what the tutorial is about, so its not only dry reading (for anyone still learning chess).
There are also 100 "check mate in...moves" challenges, ranging from 1 to 5 moves. What I also like is that they have about 20 difficulty levels ranking from Monkey to Grand Master. Even beginners should be able to play at least on Monkey I assume because its rather forgiving, so it might be a nice first foray into AI chess for someone.

The game also keeps track of your stats, so you can look up how many times you did the En Passent, won games or whatever. Its also interesting to note, that you can actually save matches to rewatch them later if you want. Oh and, I turned them off for the screenshots (select I believe), but there are also boxes on the side that will use the standard notes for every move done so far: "Ka2" etc.

There are 3 different views:

The first one is top down, second one is sort of a free camera that I usually tilt a bit to one side while playing, and the last one is sort of the cinematic camera for taking pictures that lets you center on a single chess piece, for example:

The chess sets are pretty varied, and they also have different "textures" so you can decide to play with stone, marble or wood pieces. It looks really nice.

Now onto my gripes with it (2 and 3 arent really that important, just personal preferences I guess):
1. When I played yesterday night, one setting got the game to dip the FPS count a bit. Nothing severe/game breaking, but noticeable enough that I was a bit disappointed. Tried another table after that which didnt seem to have the same problem.

2. I am missing piece interaction. Like when the pieces are moving and hitting an opponents piece, the other one simply disappears. I would have loved to see them interacting and actually knocking the other piece over.

3. Not all that important, but still a bit annoying: In the third view mode you can tilt the view by using the right analog stick AND the gyro sensor, which makes finding a sweet spot for a photo a bit difficult as you cant hold it completely still.

All in all, I'd say its a really nice looking game that does everything a chess game is supposed to do in style with some minor downsides that definitely is worth 7,99€ if you have someone to play it with. Make sure to buy the Halloween pack, instead of the base game, though, as it contains the Halloween set for free. Might be a limited offer until tuesday.

I'm going to purchase the game today, then! ^_^

Can't wait, as I sent you a friend request, even though I'm in California, lol

Forgive most of my typos, later evening when I'm playing Vita games, I begin also posting here - so, my typos are usually caused by my typing from that system.

Chess can't wait.

Two more pictures:

The wooden standard set:

and the camera tilt/setting I prefer when playing:

How much is Pure Chess, Toma?

7,99$ in the US for the standard version
7,99$ for the Halloween pack, which includes the standard version plus the halloween set (get this one while its up if you think about getting it, might be gone on tuesday)
2,49 or 2,99$ (I forgot) for any other DLC.

I really think its definitely worth the 8 bucks.

Yes and the developer seems to break a lot of old tables with each new update. It's a shitty situation but it's the best pinball game available. I can deal with it, some don't.

Why do you prefer it over Zen Pinball 2? I think most people would argue that ZP2 is the better "game" while the other one is a better representation/recreation of classic existing Pinball tables.

Just curious since we usually seem to have pretty similar views on things in this thread.

Disclaimer: I'm not a pinball expert at all, just someone who likes to play some tokens every once in a while. With that said, ZP has wonky physics that don't resemble a pinball table at all. The ball moves way too fast (they even had to add a trail ffs!) and barely bounces. That makes it unplayable for me, it just doesn't feel right.

Also, all of the tables I've tried from ZP are very uninspired. They don't capture the aesthetic of pinball machines, are too simplistic on its score mechanics and seem stuck in that middle ground of "we try to resemble a pinball table yet we make thinks appear out of nowhere all the time".

ZP is more consistent and polished but polish alone doesn't make a good game.

Yeah, its less "realistic" and more "gamey". I dont mind the physics and totally love all the wacky stuff you can do on the ZP2 tables though which of course arent possible or feasible on a "real" table.

*tries to connect a usb cord to the shiny new vita* Where where where *tries holes that obviously won't fit* where where where....

*thinks back to the power cord*
oh derp ><:

I don't think it has to do with being realistic. I think those physics are just not good for a pinball-like game. The whole point of pinball is trying be in control of a very chaotic system with the limited resources you have (usually only the paddles). The balls are these full of inertia masses that makes it very difficult to make them do what you want them to do. There's a balance between trying to achieve what you want and the risk of losing control of your balls.

In ZP it feels like the balls don't have mass at all, they are just there and are very easy to control. IDK, I feel that balance is somewhat lost in ZP. I feel ZP would be a better game if they just ditched the pinball table aesthetic and went full force with wacky stuff. That way they could probable design obstacles build around these physics at least.

So, being a noob at PS handheld systems and recently getting into the Kingdom Hearts franchise outside of the PS2 games...

You mean to tell me I can't play BBS on my new Vita? :(

White Vita arrived today, it's lovely :D

One question though (just a sanity check!) - all I need to do is move the memory card over, there's nothing on my old Vita that's going to get lost is there? Did a backup to be sure, but just before I format the old Vita ready to sell - all the onboard memory holds is PSN account info/settings right?

correct you can not play BBS on OFW Vita as it's not on the PSN and thus only avalible via umd.

First off, congrats on becoming a Vita bro, second, I'm not sure if account is on the onboard memory. I think its a memorycard thing.

How easy is it to transfer stuff from one Vita to another? Like, if I log into my Playstation account on one Vita, download some Plus stuff, then later sell that Vita and get another, would it be difficult to get my Plus games on the new Vita?

Don't forget to deauthorize your "old" Vita from your SEN account, unless you intend on still using it. SEN accounts allow for 2 PS3's and 2 portables (PSP or Vita) to be registered on them.

I hate the way friend list refreshes on the Vita, first the old list gets deleted 1 friend at a time, then updates the new one, its annoying and slow.

As long as you've got an account activation free (you get two for portables), you can log in and download whatever you want. Even your previous save files if you remembered to upload them

When Viking Attack looks hilarious!

Did I miss a Plus sale on it? It's back to $10.

Carl, go play it online! Solo stuff is basically the gravy upon a meaty lamp shank that is the MP. Sure it's nice, but on it's own its just gravy!

I never liked uncharted games demos, so i never bought them, i didn't like the u:ga demo too, but the full game feels different, i really love the exploration and the puzzles, imo sony should make an uncharted spinoff series(with a different main character?) heavy on exploration and puzzles and close to zero gunfights.
