With a lot of games I can see a few screens and I'm in (Bioshock, Gravity Rush), for others a trailer will be enough. I've watched a reasonable amount of Persona and I just can't decide whether I'll enjoy playing it as someone that doesn't play a huge amount of JRPGs.
No idea if this helps you, but I don't play JRPGs either.
I played Persona 3, and it was only when I got to the first full-moon boss that I realised I enjoyed it so much. Once I realised that, it only progressed.
There's a few things that make the game significant:
The dialogue is generally well written and compared to competing JRPGs, exceptionally well acted. Don't go in expecting something like Uncharted, because it's not nearly up to that level, but it's good for what it is.
The art and sound stand out from pretty much every other game on the market. A lot of people see the game, and say it has a J-pop soundtrack and an anime artstyle. NOPE!
The artist draws heavily from anime and manga in terms of his faces (It is still a JRPG after all), but the outfit design is generally extremely stylish, realistic practical and not-sexualised. Proportions are sensible and the lineart is a cut above pretty much everything. On top of that, it has some astoundingly well-designs menus and HUDs which still function and transition better than pretty much everything out there. They're fast, efficient, stylish and pretty.
The music draws from various genres over the course of the game, including pop, rock and orchestral, with all songs coming back to a central theme, and also including Meguro's trademark usage of classical and rock influences alongside strong melodic choruses. In terms of the non-pop stuff (There's only a couple of pop songs), take a look at

Gameplay is snappy and never feels obnoxious, and the game really feels like it was made by a team who feed off each other's strengths. It's not that it does anything revolutionary, it just does everything in such a slick and unique way.
At the very least, I can guarantee you won't have played anything else quite like it.
I really want it to come over too.
