Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | February 2013 | The most desirable handheld in Japan

PSM reminds me of XBLindie

Some great gems but loads of crap and not at all easy to find

Top of page:

Buy the wipeout HD! That way you get an amazing ps3 game, and all the dlc for 2048!

Better service? While the quality of the SCEA PS+ games has been straight up garbage, with minor exceptions, for a long time, I don't really find fault with the "service".

I was just refering to not being able to "buy" PS Plus library games. Second Account, yeah okay, but I think I will wait that my PS Plus subscription runs out and then buy these gems and then resubscribe. If it works.

But there are other things I could complain about: Different PS Plus regions, Europe-Release-Problems and Delays,...

I really like Sony and their core-gamer-focus, but many things could be managed better.

To be fair, PSM has been a complete failure, but I don't want Sony to give up on it. I could see it being a viable service as some point, just not right now.

Yes. SCEA sucks and we won't see anything like that for awhile. While EU ends up getting the games we get at some point (see: WipEout2048, etc.), we're still waiting on a ton of games they got... Arkham City, Crysis 2, Mortal Kombat, etc. However, we'll probably never see them. Next free game for PS+? Probably Mass Effect 2 or Bioshock.

We'll get Sleeping Dogs for free in 2015 as a PS3 classic or something on the PS4 PS+.
next ps+ game should be another vita game as Chronovolt is leaving tomorrow.
Beyond that I still hope SCEA continues to "suck" as I still would prefer not to have any retail ps3 games added to plus. All the unhappy people can just switch over to EU if they feel it's that much better, leave NA plus for those of us that like it this way :p.

I'm hoping in general we see more ps1 classics on NA plus as the plus guy has already hinted that they are going to likely be pushing a number of cross buy/play games for NA plus as they feel giving a game to both PS3 and PSV people at once is the best way to go.

But there are other things I could complain about: Different PS Plus regions, Europe-Release-Problems and Delays,...

I realy like Sony and their core-gamer-focus, but I feel like there are things that could be managed even better.
you can say that things could be managed better for most things though :p

well it's silly that it's its own little tab.
plus given the number of decent mobile games out there the number of games in general is pitiful

It's about bloody time! I've wanted that game for so long. Unfortunately, it comes out two days before Ni no Kuni. And then I'm importing Sly 4 which comes out on the 5th of February! Where the hell am I going to find the time for all this.

You can use the awesome power of the playstation vita to travel back in time and hence play multiple games

I hope the next firmware update allows more Remote Play Games :/
and PS2 Classics to be playable.. gosh

you are likely going to have to wait until the ps4 to hope for to many more remote play games. So many of the big releases for the ps3 already push the system to the point that they have framerate issues, adding streaming from the system on top of that just isn't possible. ideally the ps4 has resources set aside for remote play and we see that a lot more, especially if the ps4 has a back touch screen controller like it's rumored to.

The Problem with PSM is that it is yet another platform for games.

Retail Games, PSN Games, PSM, PS Minis.

PSM reminds me of XBLindie

Some great gems but loads of crap and not at all easy to find

The problems with PSM are

1) Lack of games and non game apps, there are maybe 20 games and 1 non game available? I'm genuinely curious, but I think that number is just about right, I know there's only one non gaming app available. The service has been available for over 2 months now, closer to 3. Should have at least a couple of hundred games and apps, given its indie status and easiness of development, but nope. I never even click on that tab to be honest.
2) Only available in a few select countries, both from a consumer and dev POV
3) Lack of PSN (trophies, leaderboard, etc ) integration
4) Developers are unable to develop free apps and games, so if you want to develop a weather/stock app or a tic tac toe/hangman game, then it can't be free even though no one will pay for it
5) Prices are high compared to iOS/android. Some games are more than 100% more expensive than iOS/android. You might say, but it's only a couple of bucks, but the majority of people will see that and think it's expensive when the same experience can be had much cheaper on the competition
6) No coverage for it from SCEA or even SCEE for that matter. The best place to get info is from kassatsu's website
7) Developers complaints include limitation on the VM that is used to run the code, especially if you try to do a 3D game/app, lack of documentation, only able to use C#, no other language is supported

There are probably more things wrong with it, but PSM is a bust. Had great potential though.

Not necessarily. I believe PS3s with custom firmware were doing remote play of Killzone 2 and a lot of the older library. At the very least, they should enable it for the HD collections wherever possible.

developers can't make free games? is that exclusive to psm? i know there are free games on vita's psn.

How is Final Fantasy Tactics on the Vita?

I hear it has frame rate problems which kind of put me off.

You mean the PSP remake or the original PSOne game? The remake runs just like on PSP, it has some slowdowns on attack animations but if you already played it like that on PSP you won't notice the difference.

same as it was on the psp, perfectly fine aside from a number of actions having slowdown but nothing absolutely game breaking, mostly just avoid using summoners and calculators if I recall right.

I would assume the ps1 classic would run just fine, don't know about that one.

1) Actually, there have been about 47 PS Mobile releases so far.
2&3) This is unfortunate, but they've said they're working on these.
4) They do allow fremium style releases (free with micro-transactions). This is more about reducing free, ad supported crap that floods Android.
5) Pricing is up to the developers.
6) Errr... What? High quality PSM releases are frequently highlighted on the Blogs and the Blogcast. And they're currently running a free weekly game promo. What exactly were you expecting?

As you wish, i let my psplus expire yesterday. The EU plus announcements were like some hilariousvindication for me.

Vitabretheren...its over. P4G is done. I feel so empty now. It was an awesome experience though. Now I can say without a doubt that the story in P3 was much better. Not that P4's story was bad at all. Also, I get why they went with the happy go lucky opening too. Sure it was a murder mystery, but it really wasn't that dark of a story, and there were a lot of fun moments.

My only kinda complaint was the (im sure its new to the game) true end boss fight. That had to be the easiest boss in the entire game! Maybe I was just overpowered but geez I slept through that fight. I can see how it could go horribly wrong but, guess I was prepared. Or as prepared as you could be.

I guess next up is P4 Arena story which apparently is all text from what i've seen so far? If thats the case I wish they would put just the story mode on Vita >.>.

I think I saw TheSeks on here saying something about Persona 2 having the best story. What are you guys and gals opinions on P2 and P1. I want to get into some of the other SMT properties later this year too. Hee-Hoo

3. But they can (and do, like Surge) have leaderboards. And Trophies are supposedly being worked on in an updated SDK.
4. I've seen Free items there that use in-app purchase for extras. I'm not sure about totally free.
5. Prices are what they set them to be no? One game was 79 cents if I remember correctly.

Just a couple bits I thought while reading.

With a caveat I haven't actually finished it (although I'm pretty close) Persona 2's story is fantastic. The characters are still strong, but they're strong because they're directly linked to the story, and not because they're necessarily well developed as people or eschewing genre tropes.

I played through most of it just a few months ago for the first time and honestly I don't think it's aged that badly provided you're okay with the plodding, random battles. It's definitely a worthwhile game in your library.

Not played P1 but I want to.

Medical specialists should start looking into this phenomenon to see what we can learn from it. It seems to happen to everyone, it certainly hit me when I beat it yesterday.

Thankfully I know what the cure is already. Persona 5 needs to be a direct sequel to 4.

Yup it took a good 17-20 hours to really get going but I finished it in ~72 so it's all good.

Did you get anywhere close to platinum? Looks like it will require two playthroughs. I'm trying really hard to disassociate myself with trophy hoarding, as they really mean absolutely nothing in the end. Advice?

Disagree! No no no! Persona 4 is a masterpiece and all but they shouldn't tread the same ground again. In fact I prefer Persona 3 to Persona 4, but I'm happy they went with a new cast for P4. Have cameos or whatever but Persona 5 needs to be it's own thing, and I'm sure Atlus will make it so.

NO! it already has an anime and a fighting game sequel. i loved persona 4's story and characters, but i want a whole new experience with the next game.

Think I got around 36 trophies but most of the ones I have left are pretty grindy and will probably take at least another 2 playthroughs. I still only have 70% of the personas, still have to get the all social link trophy and still have to read all of the books as well as doing the hidden bosses and dungeons and that horrible risette fan trophy. I probably won't even bother with most of them.

Kewl, i'm on the fence about random battles. But i'll put it on my list of games to beat for later this year. After Monster Hunter of course.

Yes, I think you are right. Until then they can just give us DLC cases for P4.

All of persona series are somehow connected (they occur at the same world, just different place and time). In that sense Persona 5 would be a sequel to Persona 4 :)
(However I think it won't be a direct sequel).

I'm assuming they're no longer making PSP games compatible with Vita? I've been waiting for Motorstorm Arctic Edge for forever and a day. Need a nice offroad racer for mah Veeta.

it's sony... never rule anything out with them... it wouldn't be completely surprising to read that they introduced support for a ps1/psp game 8 years from now when they are halting production of the vita lol.
Probably at the same rate they're making PSOne games compatible in NA. Thanks SCEA!

they have added 9 ps1 games in the last few weeks o_O;
4 on jan 15th and 5 on jan 8th o.o;

If you send sony enough money I'm sure they'll listen. I've been waiting for FFV, KH:BBS, Mega Man: PU and MGS: Portable Ops. It's a sad thing that we'll probably never see these on NA Vitas.

they have added like 11 ps1 games in the last few weeks o_O;

How many of the 100+ or so games that EU has working over US did that include? Are the Crash or Spyro games available now? What about the R-Type games?
What about games that work via PS3 transfer but aren't on the Vita owners for those who choose only to own a Vita like MGS?

---

AHAHAHA, omega zero will be happy, SCEA is giving NA PS+ NGS+.
Excellent, now I can experience first hand the 30fps and framerate dips to see if I deem them as bad as some other framerate snobs on GAF has.

yeah i was so stoked when they added the little mermaid ps1 game to the store. it will definitely help me out until the crash and spyro games come to the store.

NGS???!!! Awesome! I wanted to play that! SCEA redeemed!

Indeed! gonna hop on that ps+ deal they are offering.

They timed the PS+ Deal for when the free 3 months from the Black Friday Amazon Vita bundle were about up(less than a month) and threw in NGS to push em over to re-up the subscription.

i believe the answer to your question would be 9 games as 4 + 5 is 9, though I think most of the games worked via ps3 transfer so really it's just 9 to your second question :p

and at least NGS+ is more interesting to me than table top tanks, so I am happy enough. I don't think NGS+ was a game I was planning on buying anyways so I don't mind getting it, especially since it meets my retail requirement for me being ok with getting a retail game... it's actually more than $15 to buy physically lol.

Kiiiinda glad we didn't get Lumines since I just got it for Christmas and haven't started it yet due to other Vita/3DS stuff in my backlog. Sigma will be a worthy addition
that I'll play in July/August once school is over for me.
