Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

your name/handle changes every week...

edit: sorry to have made the first page post such a useless one, guys. :( If it's any consolation, I use the "nice n' clean" brand of electronic wipes to clean my vita. Removes smudges and dust perfectly everytime.
Only ever once. Two weeks ago. ;-)

On the topic of Demon Gaze, I saw you can customize your party members, so my party is gonna be a total sausage fest. Aw yeah.

I am really really excited for dangan ronpa. I was pretty much resigning myself to playing it emulated with the fan translation on the PC (a compromised experience IMO). Now I am glad I don't have to. Demon Gaze was a nice surprise as well.

Might check out that Farming Sim game, is it a PSM title? Or full priced digital Vita release? Fingers crossed that Lone Survivor gets a stealth release either this month, or right at the start of next.

Any word if the 3 japanese games announced for the US yesterday will make their way to EU too?

Why not? I am pretty sure the Vita market for the EU is bigger than the US. They'd be crazy not to.

Edit: I am not saying that an EU version is announced, jsut stating my confidence it will make it to EU land.

They are not even on PS3 store? I thought they were.... and just weren't PS Vita compatible...

I think Spyro might be? I have not looked at the store in awhile on PS3. I do think it could be a situation where Sony might have to renew their rights for games to be resubmitted onto a different platform, hence why there are so many PS1, PS2 games that are not on the store.

Yeah I know but some of these niche publishing houses for Japanese games tend to only have a publishing office in the US (I'm looking at you, Atlus!!)

I just got my Vita with 16GB memory card....which region's PS+ should I get for it? R1, R2 or R3? I plan to link my PS3/PS4 (eventually) account to this as well.

Recommend me some games!

I ALMOST went down this road. I'm also excited. I had my eye on Demon Gaze and was thinking about importing, but now am glad I won't have to.

Spyro is on the list of games that just don't work in NA, alongside all the Crash games and the R-Type games. >_<

FUCK YOU, SCEA.

Anyone in here have or plan on picking up SH:BoM on Tuesday?
If the answer is yes, and I'm not on your list, please add me. PSN is the same as my username here.

I mainly want to ensure I can knock the multiplayer trophies out, 2 of which require a full lobby.

Sei Madou might not have been received quite well though. Barely passing a 2/5 on Japanese Amazon, and the limited edition is down to roughly $40. Most are bug complaints though, so that might skew the ratings of the ironed out release we'd get.

So Vita bros, I've been really struggling with aiming on the Vita and I'm trying to figure out what it is. I think the biggest factor is that the analogue sticks have such small travel that it's hard to fine tune your aim with little adjustments. I also think it has to do with the way I hold the Vita, and not having as precise control over the sticks as I would on a Dualshock.

What's the solution for this? Get a grip? My biggest issue is that my Vita is white (so pretty) but almost every single grip out there is black, which is kind of a bummer. Anybody else with a white Vita who uses grips?

He could, you know, just ignore them. Instead he nips right back, implying that he's done more to bring support to Vita than anyone else he knows.

His relentless self-martyrdom is almost as annoying as the scapegoating from the other side. Twitter is so ugh sometimes, stahp
What point are those guys even arguing? I don't get what their argument is at all, but then again Twitter turns people into fools.

What point are those guys even arguing? I don't get what their argument is at all, but then again Twitter turns people into fools.

I guess the "argument " is that Sony strategic content team should bring bigger sized games from all over the world and not just small western indies, I can't fully blame anyone here, remember this is what Shahid said in his first post here at GAF

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Shahid Kamal Ahmad. I work for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe as a Senior Business Development Manager running a group called Strategic Content. I've not been sent here officially and besides, it's a Sunday.
(...)

Oh, and I'm not worried about being abused in any way, if you want to vent, it's OK, I'm a good listener. I care about our customers, because I'm a customer too. Me, my team, my management are working very hard to bring great games to PS Vita, and we are also doing our best to make a tiny little dent in our tiny corner of the universe.
(...)

This is the problem here for most of these twitter people I think, from his post it sound like Sony assembled the Strategic Content to talk to developers to bring all sort of games to Vita, however the team focus way too much on the smaller indie games(and not even medium sized indie).

I think Shahid need to address this not only for twitter people but for us in GAF too, was his team- Sony Strategic Content - created to bring indie games only? or is it also responsible to bring all sort of games to Vita, if he do this it'll save him and us a lot of unnecessary anger (that in case he says his job is related to indies dev only and have nothing to do with publishers at all).

Anyone got any tips on these stupid accursed "get 16/18/20 hands-washed bonus in a single wave" challenges in Men's Room Mayhem?

I can get my last trophy if I can get them and get another game deleted off my memory card. Please help!

Could Jade cocoon likely be one of the rpgs ? It would be interesting put it on vita and use the trainer angle.. rival to the pokemon series

What point are those guys even arguing? I don't get what their argument is at all, but then again Twitter turns people into fools.

The internet in general turns people into Jackasses. The fact is when you look at the differences overall when you compare SCEA, and SCEE I just dont know ow anyone could feel that it is appropriate to go after Shahid, instead of Adam Boyes, Shane Bettenhausen, or Brian Silva they handle third party relations for SCEA its their fault EA, and Activision wont support the Vita.

Shahid is in Europe in which Ubisoft is "currently" backing the platform, both of the biggest first party games coming are coming from Europe, SCEEs support of PSPlus is far better then SCEAs (I dont know how Japan supports plus) which is probably also thanks to his team. Combine that with the fact that he was he one who went out of is way to poll Vita fans on what they wanted from Japan on his own time, and works 100hours a week to bring games to the Vita. It baffles my mind why people feel its ok to attack him, and call him a "Sand Ni***R". All because he likes Indie games, and supports his friends who follow him on twitter by promoting their games. The game community is packed with some grade A douchebags.

He has already answered this numerous times, there are bigger games coming both Indie, and third party, but he cannot announce games on twitter. He suggested after these announcements last night that he knew these announcements were coming, but hes not allowed to make those announcements himself, even more so on twitter. Announcements are made through Marketing, and through the third parties themselves, his team is responsible for securing content in Europe.

He is part of the strat content team for SCEE, not SCEA, or SCEJ. I dont know how much he can do about content not coming from his region. His JRPG poll is proof that he is willing to try and get everyone what they want where he can.

Could Jade cocoon likely be one of the rpgs ? It would be interesting put it on vita and use the trainer angle.. rival to the pokemon series

this gen SCEJ made three trainer/monsters games then SCEA refused to publish the first one and PS3 price killed the other one, and SCEE wasted an opportunity to turn Invizimals into a Pokemon rival by making the next game in the series an adventure game instead of an RPG.

Well. I think they also ask big 3rd party publishers, but they can't force them.
If I were a 3rd party publisher I wouldn't invest heavily in the Vita.
I would wait and see how people react to RemotePlay and Gaikai, if that all works well that pretty much ties the Vitas life cycle to the ps4s life cycle, which would make investing in the PsVita a whole lot "safer".
I guess we'll see a bump in 3rd party support in 2014.

i just want some type of idea of what 2014 will look for the vita...

theres a couple handfuls of indies announced this year which i assume will fill out the 2014 calender, but I need some significantly larger games.

edit: i wish ZE:VLR had auto saving.... i keep accidentalyl deleting my progress when i open a new game.

I don't think that many games announced at Gamescom and TGS are still comming out in 2013. So I guess well see the first "big" games for 2014 at those events.

Well currently we have the three Japanese games announced yesterday, and Freedom Wars from SCEJ which likely wont show in the US until 2014. Inafune also said he wanted to do a sequel to Soul Sacrifice so that could potentially come aswell, who knows when though.

I see his situation at Sony as:

"People in the Vita division dropped the ball as far as getting retail big names secured....I'm in a position to fill the void with lots of great ready-made content, so I can at least dedicate myself to getting those secured."

Gravity Rush 2 should also be in development, let's hope they'll aim for native resolution

I loved Gravity Rush (and in the minority even) and always recommend to new Vita owners but... no, I hope not, I want Toyama and his team to return what he do best, horror games.

Goddamn, with all these localization announcements, I really hope that Sega gets off of their collective ass and joins the localization bandwagon *cough*ValkyriaChronicles3Yakuza5PSO2*cough*

I don't blame Adam Boyes or Shane or anyone.... if the math doesn't add up, the math doesn't add up. EA and Activision aren't here because the math doesn't add up. It's not because Adam Boyes didn't try hard enough.

They need to increase the install base - plain and simple. The only way they can do that currently is with first party games and price cuts. A third party coming in and white knighting the vita just isn't realistic anymore.

His relentless self-martyrdom is almost as annoying as the scapegoating from the other side.

I could be spending time with my family right now but I'm in here posting to vitagaf because I'm that dedicated. My family hasn't eaten in 3 weeks because I won't stop posting in this thread. You guys better respect my level of dedication.

Maybe it's just my fuzzy memory since I haven't played Ninja Gaiden since the original xbox but does Sigma Plus feel more sluggish? I remember feeling way more in control.

Vita port is 30fps instead of 60fps. I didn't even play Ninja Gaiden on Xbox and it feels so sluggish. D:

I always wondered why did Sony let the Vita have this drought of first party titles for the past year or so. I know the PS4 is their focus, but to not have even a major announcement from SCEA in more than a year baffles me. If they had managed to announce and release something faster, they might have been able to introduce a price cut (and hence, increase the Vita's install base) sooner.

I'm still very hopeful for Gamescom and TGS though.

Btw. I appreciate all your comments and the time you take to post! :)

.

The stuff that frustrates me isn't that Rockstar isn't making a GTA spinoff, or that Gearbox isn't making a borderlands game.

It's that stuff like the vita tales games in Japan aren't being localized here, hell even just localized subtitles would be ok.

It's stuff like 2k releasing versions of 2k13 on IOS and PSP, just take the psp version and use some of the higher res textures they already built for ios! It couldn't be that expensive of a port job.

It's stuff like IOS getting Xcom/the new deus ex spinoff/the capcom ios ports etc. I would love to have that stuff on the go but don't want touch controls.

Those are the things that frustrate me as a vita owner.

I believe the same. FFT is now in hi-res on iOS devices. I don't think it will be too expensive to bring it over since the improved assets are already there, besides the game would look glorious on the Vita.

Hopefully SE releasing Chaos Rings on PSM will start a trend among other devs and publishers to get some great titles on the Vita.

What's the difference in cost of publishing on iOS vs Vita? Also what's the cost of development of iOS vs Vita? I'm genuinely curious.

If there are 1 million Vita owners in the world (for the sake of argument) and it costs X to develop AND publish on the system vs 10 million iOS owners (again, for argument's sake) and the cost of that initial investment is lower then I can absolutely understand why these guys decide not to go for a Vita version.

Mortimer is right though - Sony needs to increase the install base to demonstrate to people like Square that the Vita is a worthwhile investment in its own right. By all accounts the attach rate of the machine is excellent - and if it can maintain that while growing its userbase then everyone wins.

Until then Sony NEEDS to lower the cost of the memory cards - the machine is not expensive compared to other devices in the market, but the cards add an absurd amount to the price.

No, but Sony definitely does deserve the blame for their tremendous lack of first party titles on the horizon. I too think its unrealistic for a big third party publisher to bring a game to the Vita, but Sony certainly isn't helping matters. They have an enormous first party lineup of studios and are doing next to nothing with the Vita.

Absolutely. I think there is a genuine beef to be had with first party. It's sony's system, they need to increase the base and make the software that will do it.

I don't think blaming third party guys like Boyes or Shahid is on the mark though. Those guys are trying. But like I said before, math is math.

I like indies and I like japanese games so I'm satisfied... and I think the vita will live a long, niche life. But it's clear to me that Sony is hedging their bets and aren't investing heavily in the vita because they're afraid if they do and it doesn't take off that it's just pissing away money.

I genuinely feel bad for the folks who don't like indie games or japanese games. People who bought the vita at launch for Uncharted and Wipeout. We will get more games like that... but at such a slow trickle. It really was bait and switch. I don't think it was on purpose - i think they really thought the whole "console games in your pocket" thing was going to take off. But it didn't. The big winners from year one were Mutant Blobs Attack and Escape Plan... not Uncharted or Call of Duty.
