Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

My dad is in Japan right now and has one free day to shop tomorrow. Should I ask him for anything on the Vita side of things? That is, how likely is it for Senran Kagura to be localized? :P

I know there's less prying eyes in here... I didn't want to post too much in that other thread because it was getting a major amount of attention.

I actually know nothing about DoS other than it's a F2P rpg. I'm hoping that DDQ and this prove me wrong about the F2P model on games outside of stuff like Montezuma... but my initial reaction was bleh. But, again, that's the extent of what I know. It may be the best F2P game ever invented. In three years of iOS and android gaming though I don't think I've played a F2P rpg that I enjoyed...

F2P works fine for puzzle games, shooters, mobas and MMOs. But otherwise... well, we'll see.

Interesting.. if it turns out to be a F2P MMO or dungeon crawler, that'd be awesome. If done right, they can be really fun IMO. I'm still waiting for PSO2 though :(

Probably next to nothing considering the only people crazy enough to localize it (XSEED, now Marvelous USA) are scared of the idea of localizing it, because of it's content. They're still "looking into it", though.

Ha. Sadly, I had to abandon, since I own it already and will just wait for a sale.

Whoa. That's probably the best end screen I've seen for a demo.
The port really is flawless, and it feels very intimate on the Vita instead of PC. Perfect place for it.

Well nico nico works with party chat, me and few gaffers are going to chatting during the e3 conference.

Going the second E3 in a row with Old School VITAGAF party chat: cecil, Kyon, RpgN, Sol1dus, Shikoro, Kincade, LagunaX,VanVinkle and SAB-CA.

Last chance to troll, guys.

<3 Good times last year. Well, in the group. We were all raging for a whole month. XD

Sounds great to me. I wonder if some of those guys are still even here. I know Kyon, Sol1dus, SAB-CA, me, and you are. I can't recall if cecil, RpgN, Shikoro, Kincade, and LagunaX are still Vitabros.

Regardless, there will have to be several Vita parties to fit all the new VitaGAF members.

Edit: Doing some research, seems most of them are still here. Nice.

Those look like the could be good. JRPGs are the main thing I'm not a fan of, but there are certainly SOME Japanese games I like.

Muramasa is not a good game. Jump button can make it a better game (with Wii I got many problems with combat because I have to press up) but is this enough? no. the game need so many teaks and change to be a good game, the unbalanced boss fights, awful backtracking, repetitive boring ass long fights, lack of Lack of enemy types..ect.

Agreed bought it on the Japan PSN. I would much rather have Okami.

While GEB was good and better than all MH games combined, sadly so far from what I read there is nothing really new in GE2, it just sound like Shift and Bamco going MH style with very tiny changes in lazy sequels.

hopefully this is not the case here.

Yeah it's just not good, not even in the same quality universe as GrimGrimoire and Odin Sphere (not this one will be amazing on Vita), and asking $40 for a 4 years old port with only the jump button as a new feature is really crazy.

They're not the newest games now but just wanted to note that Guacamelee is a really good time and well made. That was a fun six hours getting everything except for going back through it on Hard Mode. I don't think I'd actually have fun doing that so I'll hold off.

And then started Knytt Underground. I've loved the PC titles and it's probably just been awhile but the controls are...less than excellent. I've spent about an hour deep into Chapter 3 and the environments are really nice looking and all the other art and UI stuff is absolutely horrible (though Saira sort of prepared me for that). It's just jarring and makes it difficult to enjoy at times. I actually find myself trying not to look at characters and just to speed read through the dialogue to get through it. Still, I'm enjoying exploring and it's neat to see the different areas and some of the platforming can be fun. I think it was Chapter 2 that really annoyed me and soured things. Also, just a personal thing, but feels really weird to have unlocked zero trophies so far. Not even a token trophy or two for completing the first two chapters? Hmph!

...and I've been playing them on PS3, not my Vita, but they're cross play and I just figured I'd share my experiences here. Doubt that changes the experience all that much overall. Super pumped for Virtue's Last Reward later this month, though.

You've been a Vitabro for a decent while now. Of course. Like I said, we'll probably have to have several party chats going. It's too bad Party is limited to only 8 people. :(

Should make a google spreadsheet or something. i'd be down for it. I took monday off from work because i'm a crazy drunk Vita-Cat. Just be forewarned I will not hold back the cussing out Sony if we get a repeat of last year.

Cecil's still a Vita Bro. He's always firing the Toro App up.

Yeah it needed more for replayability, maybe more outfits, attacks, maps or new boss fights, for if you get the happy ending there is no reason to go back since it will feel "empty" ,which is kinda bummer since Guacamelee is the best metroidvania since Order of Ecclesia.

Hi guys, got my Vita today.
I am happy that I bought it in the end. Feel free to add me. Silenthill1979.

Congrats.

Buy P4G, Gravity Rush, Texture Sacrifice, New little King's Story and also Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure(PSP).

Silenthill1979

a SH fan,well... all I can say to you is do not buy Book of Memories, It will just hurt you more.

Unit 13 is not bad. Even if the game looks unremarkable, the core mechanics and structure are there. Although I rather it not have the xp system. Locking me out of essential mods like a silencer for certain classes irks me.

Thanks for the recommendations. As a Silent Hill fan, I am used to getting disappointed by the Silent Hill games, except the ones from Team Silent.

Will take a look at these games. I will probably end up in buying all of them :-)

Yeah, it's a really good 'portable' shooter.
The only thing that made me mad is enemies suddenly moving away after I head-shot them, that just felt unfair.

And on visual side it looks nextgen'ish enough :)
I usually show it as example of true handheld graphics after Uncharted and Wipeout.

It's not a good game either, while the controls was "solid" there were just too many problems and flaws with it, from the janky and awful cover system, stupid AI, bad map design, unbalanced(stealth beat all) lackluster mission variety and no story to keep you interesting and going and yeah..it looked like a freaking PSP game.

but to be fair it was kinda better than SOCOM 4, so yeah at least Zipper last game wasn't their worst one.

....
wah?

Unit 13 is an ugly game, look next gen too? yeah sorry but NO.

I don't think I've played a portable shooter with good AI. Even the Syphon filter games, which are probably my favorite of that sub genre had dumb as rocks AI. But I do like how stealth is an option here. And more importantly how you melees are OHKOs

Oh yes, definitely. It's just I'm having freaking exams and hardly have time to participate as much (June needs to end already). You'll still find me leaving quick comments here and there and trying to stay up to date :) I can't guarantee I'll be able to watch these E3 videos or participate in parties, but it might be good to send them just in case.

Sup VitaGAF, new guy around these parts.

Anyway, I'm looking for some suggestions for a decent hack-and-slash game. Dynasty Warriors has been my guilty pleasure for quite some time, but I want to change things up with something different.

I've already tried out Ragnarok Odyssey via the demo, but it didn't really click with me.

There was a leak that it was a PS4 title by From Software, but that was fake.

There was a picture going around that listed Destiny of Spirits as a PS4 title by From Software, but it's probably fake.
The picture wasn't taken on a cheap phone.
So nothing new, thanks :)

Lol, on c64 and amiga there was no jump button and for a lot of time i hated to press a button to jump because it (still)feels more natural to press up to "go" up.

I agree on this, there are some new weapons, monsters and locations but it looks more like super god eater burst than gods eater 2, i hope to be wrong though.

I totally disagree on this, unit 13 looks really good even being sub-native res.
This is a psp game(socom 3 just to be fair)

Considering how long it's been in the works, and the possible sales potential (at least in Japan), I can't imagine they are going to half-ass it.

The long development time is already "justified" imo, they are making 2 version, one of them on a new and more powerful console, add that at that the beginning it looked like a ff type 0 clone and now it's completely different...

You'll be surprised. Now that you know the game that second play through is surprisingly straightforward.

I wish i could stay up for Sony E3 - it's freaking 3am CET.
For a corporation with global appeal and strongest market in Europe they sure "know" how to choose time for conference.

It's not that important as they're gonna put the conference on their youtube channel ASAP. You could argue that you'd like to enjoy the gaf hype but the servers are gonna be down anyway so. :(

Hey hey hey, if we're talking OG vitabros, I've been here from the start :) Got my Vita at launch, been posting on Vitagaf since launch lolol. What's good for our e3 plans?

For Microsoft reveal we setup irc channel with people from our local polish forums and commented real time what was shown - it was hilarous :D

The Ragnarok Odyssey demo is an awful example of how good the game can be.

The game doesn't really pick up until you're about a third of the way through it and the game starts throwing you piles and piles of tough enemies at you.

They aren't JRPGs, but action/adventure games.

Have you tried Silent Hill Book of Memories? While it has its fair share of critics there are a few crazy people here (like me) that like it. The combat is timing based and it's really satisfying to connect with combos and critical hits. And the enemies have better AI and more personality than your average DW mob.

Ragnarok simply has bad progression. The amount of fun and freedom you'll experience with the various classes depend greatly on how lucky you are with skill card drops. Which is why mage and Hammersmith aren't recommended classes to start of with. They depend on extra mobility and stun abilities which you'll hopefully have later in the game.

hey! welcome to the vitahood. maybe check out Dungeon hunter alliance or import Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus

Best starter class is swordsman or assassin, naturally. Getting the best skill cards at the beginning won't matter as much when you will usually play with people who have better gear than you.

Muramasa comes out in like two weeks, looks like a good action rpg and the only game i ever wanted to play on wii. Dragons Crown in August.
