Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Woah, SmokyDave got banned?

Anybody here knows the reason why? The guy can be overzealous in his Vita-promotion and it seems like he just can't resist in making snipes towards 3DS regardless of the circumstances... is this why?

Edit: Oh, because of the Permabanned members returning thread.

it's super short with nothing good going, even $5 is pushing it.
The game has replay value much like Mega Man games in that you can play the bosses in different order and have a different experience. If you don't mind the technical shortcomings (i.e. can live with the varying framerate), it absolutely is worth 10-15$.

They do. They make me want to buy it if the performance issues are mostly gone... waiting for the next update from our tester. ;)

I promised Cyborg I'd upload this.
This was taken after I died about 5 seconds into a mission in SS -- I had the resolute sigil on (1 hp) and wasn't aware that Cyborg had changed the pact and it was one that you're in the stomach map for (where your HP constantly drains cause everything is acid). I told him to immediately sacrifice me since reviving me was pointless. He wanted to know how low my score was at the end of the round.

Pf goddamn game for casuals, rewards you for being a chump.
I'm kidding, SS is skillbased and I enjoy it a lot, weird that you got the cursed part, hell etc credit when you were dead

lol as comfy as the 2DS is...im starting to have buyers remorse for it.....and I haven't even bought that damn thing yet. It's really comfortable to hold, but I kinda like my portables to fit in my pocket. I might import the vita tv instead, but surely that will come stateside next year. Anyone here interested in the Vita TV?

The thought of playing GR or Dissidia in the living room is makin me smile

Suppadoopa wants no part of non-FF/non-pokemon consoles.

Sad part is, you are right.

I did have the wonderswan at one point though.

WTF.

You already have not just one but 2 3DS. Why add 2DS?
I only have 1 3DS. The other one is a DSi

Surprised that Pixeljunk Monsters Deluxe is still on sale for PS+ members. This is the third week in a row it has been up.

P5 Should be set in SEGA universe, like Dr. Robotnik High School, you play as high schooler Shadow and you can date Amy Rose.

Wha... What?! No! Do you like, write Sonic fan-fictions or something in your spare time?

Hey guys recommend a Vita game for me. Here's a list of games I currently own

Persona 4
MGS HD
Mortal Kombat
Ninja Gaiden
Gravity Rush
Strangers Wrath

I played the demo for Soul Sacrifice and have no interest in it.

I go back and forth on Killzone. On the one hand it looks amazing but on the other hand I've not really cared for the other Killzone games.

You should just get it because, if anything, chances are really miniscule that we will ever get a game with the kind of production value/graphical fidelity as plentiful as Killzone Mercenary in Vita.

Velocity Ultra
Super Stardust Delta

Actually those are the two games I want to buy ;_; But I know they'll be great from the previous ones in the series.

Yeah but if I don't enjoy playing it there would be no point in buying it. If it's like the other games in the series then it probably wont be the game for me. Still though it looks amazing.

The game, on PS3, should've been a locked 60fps. I'm not even sure how they didn't manage a locked 30fps. The game isn't that graphically intensive or anything.
I'm not as sensitive to it as my friend was, but it was bad enough at points that I could tell there was slowdown and I felt it was affecting my gameplay.

unstable 30fps, massive framerate drops in action with many enemies (which is most of the game since that all you got actually) it goes and drops from 24fps to even 15fps sometimes.

Alright, so I tried most of the stages (except the one with the Holder of the Fists) and can confirm that there's definitely some slowdown going on when things get hectic. It's hard to pinpoint exactly how much, but it's nowhere close to 15fps. Either it happens so rarely that I don't notice it or the animations (as corrosive has said) are masking the drops.
I'd guess no worse than 20, but that still feels too high for me.

EDIT: Also, the final boss of the first half just kicked my ass. I had no idea what to do lol

I completely forgot Rayman Legends came out for the vita. That might be what I get.

I go back and forth on Killzone. On the one hand it looks amazing but on the other hand I've not really cared for the other Killzone games.
Don't worry. I don't think Killzone 2 or 3 are too high on the FPS lists but I think Mercenary is awesome. While it's still not Crysis 1 or anything (as in, open-world FPS), they've still made some changes that make it feel less like a straightforward pipe you just run through and an FPS where you have some choice in how you advance and what you do.

I haven't had the time to play through all of the game, but from what I've played Mercenary is basically like Killzone x Perfect Dark/Goldeneye, as far as the SP campaign goes. It's one of my favorite FPS SP campaigns of the last 5+ years.

How is the vita version of sly cooper? What about the Jak and Daxter collection?

Judging by the demo, Sly Cooper is decent graphics and performance wise but I didn't really like the non-Sly gameplay.

Jak and Daxter collection is more up my alley from a gameplay perspective but good lord the framerate...

Alright, I am adding 50 bucks to my PSN card because I don't want to be a dirty traitor ;__________________;

Recommend me games to buy with a 58 bucks wallet and a 2 GB memory left in the MC.

Bought Flying Hamster HD since it was on sale, figured I couldn't go too wrong for 70p, not expecting much though

Actually expect a decent game in its genre. I've played it before as a minis and couldn't resist this sale on the vita. Luckily it was worth it. The graphics look very sharp like they are actually made for the vita mind instead of blown-up, the game controls pretty well with the left stick and the trophies are fun to get.

I was hoping Rotating Octopus and Flying Cloud God would look this sharp but the gameplay videos make them look more like quick ports instead. Can anyone confirm this?

The energy meter on the Vita really feels weird to me.

It's like showing 100% of power all of the time, and then, in the last ten minutes, it's rapidly depleting.

Well, that's how it feels like, anyway... :D

I just got my copy as well. I am going to try it out tonight! :D

What have we gotten ourselves into?

Say good bye to your family... they've lost you for 100+h xD

And considering that her original Japanese VA is the great Yui Horie, it's almost a crime that her English VA is so bad.

Persona 4 Arena has dual audio (possibly the only Atlus game ever to have that option) and it feels so much better to hear the original voices.

The Chie voice acting is very bad. Sometimes her voice remembers me Karol for ToV, and that's probably the least charming thing in the world XD.

How is the vita version of sly cooper? What about the Jak and Daxter collection?

The Vita version is good, but has fairly long load times. I've only played The Precursor's Legacy, and if you stand a poor framerate the first 1-2 hours, the rest of the game works good.

Sly is a good port, though there's less effects and 30fps instead of 60fps compared to the PS3 version.

Only problem I had with it was that I bought it digitally on PS3, and apparently that only yields the local version of the Vita version so I can't play it in English on the Vita, which pissed me right off.

I did give it a short go and it does indeed look very good, gameplay seemed solid as well.

As for Cloud God and Octopus, I've only played the latter, but I would be inclined to agree with your assessment

So I'm thinking about buying a few years of PS+. There's an offer in Asia for October which is:

$30 for 1 year
+ Extra 1 month PS Plus Membership
+ $6.50 Sony Entertainment Network Prepaid Value

I've confirmed that this offer stacks up with multiple purchases.
Regarding your enquiry of the PlayStation PLUS, if you purchase the PLUS menbership 2 times, you will also get the bonus twice.

So let's say six years and six months of PS+ is $180 - that would make it around $2.30 a month and you get $39 of credit on the store which is around a free game.

Good deal? Have any of the other regions had an offer like this before?

Best deal ever. In EU best we had was 15 months for price of 12.

In Asia PS+ in the past year, for Vita we have had:

Uncharted Golden Abyss

Ridge Racer
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
Rayman Origins
Shinobido 2
Virtua Tennis 4
Gravity Rush
orgarhythm
Ragnarok Odyssey
Time Travellers
Danball Senki W
Tokushu Houdoubu
Dokuro
Little Deviants

Notable others are Super Stardust Delta, Jet Set Radio, Sine Mora, Mutant Blobs Attack, Retro City Rampage, Flying Hamster HD, SunFlowers, Urban Trial Freestyle, Zombie Tycoon 2, Big Sky Infinity, Tekken Dark Resurrection (PSP), Patchwork Heroes (PSP), Patapon 3 (PSP), Tekken 2 (PS1), Gunners Heaven (PS1), KOF 98 (PS1), and Mr. Driller (PS1).

Up to you if you think this is horrible.

We are missing a lot of indie releases in the store though, like Divekick and Velocity 2X (which I was told was coming).

Aren't some of those PSX games Japanese or are they English?

I even bought the japanese version just to get the japanese voices, now I have both versions, but the one I am playing the most is the japanese. I don't know, I loved the english version, played over 80 hours with it, but it feels a bit weird to have people speak english in a japanese setting... (It's definitely something with me though). Nice for a review of japanese though xD

For some popular titles we actually have a choice - Tekken 2 was offered for free in both Japanese and English (obviously I activated both on my account :-).

It's a bit random which ones are Japanese or English only though.

Ah so Gunner's Heaven and Mr. Driller for example are Japnese ver. then?

That soldier fought a good fight.
The very definition of a real VitaBro.

Meanwhile, at JPN's PS+...

While you guys are still waiting for Sora no Kiseki/Trails in the Sky SC to be released, they're letting us play it for free on PS+ Free Play (IGC).

Bwahahahahahahahaha.

BOW DOWN, PEASANTS!

Also, there are few gems in the "123+ Game Archive games on PS+". Especially if you're a Nippon Ichi fan.

-Marl Kingdom's Doll Princess (Rhapsody Musical Adventure)
-Little Princess ~Marl Kingdom's Doll Princess 2~

If you know Japanese (and have played Disgaea in JP), these two will come as a rather nice find. Though I'd recommend the DS version of the first game, since they apparently changed a lot of the annoying stuff in the PSX version (encounter rate, battle system). Too bad the third game is a PS2 game that didn't get a PSN release.

Little Princess is goddamn awesome, though. System-wise, it doesn't feel an old game. Comparatively, LP is leaps beyond the first game. From its story-telling to its musicals to events to characters and character interactions. AND OH MY GOD. The sprite work in this is made of LOVE™. Whether it's NPC sprites or the one for musicals use, you can feel that there's a lot of work carefully put into them.

They also recently added Legend of Dragoon to it.

Thanks for letting us know about it. Will check them out now :D JP PSN is really great for old PSX/PSP titles that may be overlooked.

They really should get a button to buy all PS+ games at once.

Nice! How about some meaty DLC?

I sure hope so!

It would be a new thing for Vanillaware. They still haven't released the Muramasa DLC

Looks like they still have organizational/deadline issues. Love the Dragons Crown updates though they have basically all been small patches

Awesome.
I'll try this later.

Since I'm home now, screenies for everyone:

Also some initial impressions:

As you can probably see from the screens, the game looks great. Native res, watercolory cel-shading, nice art design, and smooth animations. It just looks great in motion, and comparable (but not that close, tbh) to the PS3 version.
The controls are responsive, and for the most part I had little trouble adjusting to them - especially since they are remappable. There are touch screen buttons (that control actions like fast-falling or gliding), but I haven't had any issues using them. The camera is no worse than say, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, and you can adjust things like the rotational axis and movement speed.
Performance-wise, it seemed mostly solid. I'd say the worst drop was around 25fps, but I haven't tried every stage yet. Overall, the framerate was about as solid as Killzone.
At first, the combat is definitely a little repetitive, but you get more moves and abilities as you beat bosses. I will say that your basic attacks aren't very satisfying to use, but they aren't horrible or useless.. The Spirit Vessel you control is very mobile, with triple jumps and a very fast dodge that can be canceled into from every move I've tried. You can also land and move around on walls in a way that reminds me of Gravity Rush.
Very cool stuff.

So far, I'm enjoying it, but I'm not at the point where I can recommend it to someone. It definitely seems to be a "love it or hate it" kind of game.

It looks great, but i won't buy it at d1, i didn't like playing it on the ps3, i felt that on vita i would have enjoyed it more, but i'm not so sure.

Guys, I'm having a problem. I can't play Persona 4...
The soundtrack is sooo good i don't want to leave any area.
I really loved the song of the night bar(and festival too iirc)

I like the range of PS1 games in Japan PS+ but I think I'll stick to Asia, $30 a year is almost half the price of the Japanese subscription and that's not counting the bonuses on offer.
