It was an expensive store update again this week. Bought Worms, Kung Fu Rabbit, Uncharted card game and Malicious.
Only played the latter so far and buyers remorse is setting in after I failed the first mission miserably.
I started to have a bad feeling about it when the presentation began with a fake language voice over, which I hate (only Gravity Rush pulled it of). It sounds totally cheap but ok, this is just a download game.
There isn't really a tutorial level and I had to learn that the mechanics are a little more varied to just jump in and learning them by playing.
The controls feel a little bit clunky thanks to those mechanics as you can switch between fighting styles on your dpad and when doing it mid-combo there is a bonus. The problem is, you have to move your thumb from the sticks for it. The same goes for the fall button on the touch screen, which should have been put on the backtouch in my opinion.
But the real culprit behind the clunkyness of the controls are the movement and the camera. You don't really run, you float around which I still need to get used to. The camera cannot keep up with this fast movement and the angles aren't always optimal.
Gameplaywise, I still don't really have the hang out of the fighting mechanics. They seem complex so that you can pull of some cool stuff but I only have the standard attacks right now.
The boss didn't seem to telegraph her attack moves clearly to me. Maybe it was because there was too much going on on the screen, but I couldn't make out a clear attack animation so that I can react. Same goes for my blocks, which I couldn't really make out.
I was very impressed with the graphics though which looked nice and clean. Don't know if it is native res, but isn't as blurry as many other Vita games. While playing the Forgotten Library level I didn't experience bad framedrops, everything seemed fine.
I think I need to learn the mechanics more but right now I am not impressed.
Edit: Buy Rymdkapsel (PSM), Spelunky and Divekick.
