Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

This actually might make sense.
However, if true, I don't understand why a publisher like Activision would deny the Crash/Spyro games in NA when they granted licenses in EU and JP... especially when that stuff is already licensed for use on PSP and PS3.

My guess is that it's just riskier to release it in the US, where you have all kinds of fucked up copyright laws passed with big corporate money (including Sony's, ironically enough). At some point it just becomes a hassle to work through that stuff, specially if you don't think the return is there.

While I distrust SCEA as much as the next guy (well, maybe not as much as you, but I've gotten close :p ) I wouldn't put the blame on them for anything that has to do with licensing issues. Thanks Obama.

I don't think that DLC is ever coming.
Has it even seen the light of day in Japan yet?
Besides, depending on how they work the DLC (it's supposed to be playable characters, but the main difference between Kisuke and Momohime is primarily the story and the bosses (and to some extent the swords until you beat both and can use them all)). Since we have no real clue what is packaged along with the characters at this point (right?), it could be something a la MGR:R with Wolf and Sam DLC or it could just be something along the lines of the Hard Corps Uprising DLC (where it's not new anything other than slightly varied "stats" in most cases).

By the time you do everything, it's a good bet you won't want to play it again anytime soon. I know it's that way for me, as I don't really care about the DLC anymore now.
I'm not sure to be honest. I hadn't been following it much so I just assumed they were working on it/it was eventually coming but if it's taken this long that's definately a worry.

With that said though I'm quite the opposite, if I enjoy and play a game enough regardless of how much content chances are I'd end up buying DLC for it to play more of it/get back into the game, even if it's just a retread of the same thing but a bit different.

With that all that said though it's probably best just to import it and not worry about the DLC.
IGN Top 25 Vita Games List

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/26/igns-top-25-playstation-vita-games?main_twitter=&page=1

Sure lists are always subjective, but Gravity Rush # 25, no Thomas was alone, no Soul Sacrifice, Plant vs Zombies on the list???!, are some pretty huge mistakes in my opinion. I think I remember Colin not liking SS, but did they even play Thomas was alone? Also pretty terrible order (Unit 13?...)

Also an amazon refer-link under every game? Wth Ign?
I don't dissagree with some of the software picks but that list definately feels like some of the multiplatform games should be replaced with original software the platform has.
I'm officially married. I proposed to her and she say yes. Thank you for all vitabros and vitagals. And specially John and Tyler for the hospitality. It Meant a lot for us.

NY has been so good to me.

PS - I loaded my vita with songs for my proposal. "In my life" by The Beatles.
Congrats!

anyone using a 3G Vita?
I just got another data simcard... wondering if it's worth getting a Black 3G Vita (gonna sell my White Vita)

I own one since launch and use 3G regularly when travelling. For games, there isn't a real benefit. I guess the better locationing through GPS can be helpful in some titles like Smart As for the street challenges but that's it.
Haven't tried MP with it for the few games which support it.

I mainly use it to browse the web, watch youtube and stream Music Unlimited to save my phones battery life. The Vita does its job as a multifunctional handheld fairly well and as such a device having internet access is crucial in my opinion.

My 3G contract is practically free, so I am pretty happy with it right now. Unfortunately, my cheap Music Unlimited subscription (€12 for a year) runs out soon ;(

yea my 3G contract is practically free too... just wondering if it is worth it to get another Vita just for that functionality

I think it is pointless. The only extra functionality is web surfing not gameplay, but you can already do that on your smartphone.

I will totally buy an LTE vita that plays games online competently though (I am not sure if LTE has better latency to make it possible.)

Congratulations, bro!

That looks hot.
I just hope it's not as buggy as Velocity Ultra. The bugs in that game dragged it from like an 8.5/10 to a 6/10 for me.

The platforming is quite fast, it seems good. And have a pretty cool Metroid vibe.

I saw one person, about six months ago at college. Of course, I have only seen two people with a 3DS since it came out.

I've seen like 4 3DSs in my life and only 1 Vita. Most kids just keep playing their DS because, you know, Pokemon.

And it's weird, since around me there are 30 Vita owners. At least it's what near say. They are probably closet gamers xD.

Haha me too, honestly as a "grown up" in a suit and tie on public transit, I feel slightly self conscious busting out the Vita and playing it. Mostly I use it on my lunch break or lying in bed / on the sofa at home or on vacation.

Yep, I feel like that sometimes, specially when I'm going to university. Is not that I care about what my classmates think, but playing a Vita while people is studing is... weird. But i sometimes play Uncharted or WipeOut and people keep looking at the screen as if they were seeing something amazing (which they are lol).

I'm kinda glad that I didn't bite on that Grand Knights History sale last month. The online service is ending at the end of October. :/

And yeah, 3G Vita doesn't really have much purpose. Especially when your area doesn't really have the infrastructure for it. I read a Japanese blog before saying that he didn't really feel lag on PSO2, except on quests where the text/etc was already displayed while the image was still loading.

The only reason I got a 3G one was because it's the only version of an LE Vita available in Asian region. And the local price was slightly cheaper than importing a WiFi LE Vita from Japan (and that's before tax).

Being in the most corrupt country, you can end up paying more than twice of the value of an imported item. -__-

I have seen a couple of people playing 3DS and Vitas while on the train. Even a couple of PSPs. I take mine out regularly and play it as well.

You guys are worrying about how people will perceive you when you play Vita/3DS in the public?

I personally don't give a damn, hahaha.

Also, I am actually quite surprised to hear how... lonely, many of you seem, in terms of finding another person with Vita or 3DS to play with. Hey, if I can arrange regular gatherings with people with a Vita/3DS club, why don't you people do the same?

I work in retail and see thousands of people every day, including kids messing with their electronics. I still never see any 3DS's or Vita's. They're just nowhere to be found. It's almost always smartphones, and sometimes a DS.

I see people play 3DS/XL all the time around here now. Sometimes I see Vitas. I've seen people with GB/GBCs around too...and at Pokemon Worlds 2013 a monthish ago people were trading Pokemon with GBAs.

Well to be truth it's not like I also often see people playing Vitas or 3DSs here as well. Most are fiddling with tablets and smartphones, true.

But well, even in a relatively backwards place such as mine I can easily create an event where people with Vita and 3DS can join in. The only tool I need is Facebook! (and a little bit of effort in message posting here and there) Around 20 people for Vita and more than 30 or so people for 3DS gather regularly just by doing that :)

I'm sure it'll be a little bit depressing, but i hope someone starts a "Vita games in 2014" thread soon!
Have been a bit out of the loop with announcements.

Doesn't bother me, but I don't take mine out of the house much. Most of the time if I'm going out and not going to work there will be a high chance of me getting drunk and that could end up bad for the Vita. And I can't really play at work.

I saw one person, about six months ago at college. Of course, I have only seen two people with a 3DS since it came out.

There's a guy who travels in train with me every day that plays with Vita. Now he's playing Virtue Last Reward, a few months ago he was playing Gravity Rush

I spend seven hours a week on a plane for work and I have literally never seen a vita. Plenty of 3DS' and millions of smartphones and tablets.

You'd not believe the amount if people who ask me what my vita is!

List is so full of struggle. Should have limited to 10-15 and kept it moving.

A year and a half after initial release, and I still have yet to see anyone using a Vita in public. That alone would blow my mind. >.>

The one instance I saw a vita out in the wild I immediately posted here about it. Haha, I virtually stared at the guy in disbelief.

I'm officially married. I proposed to her and she say yes. Thank you for all vitabros and vitagals. And specially John and Tyler for the hospitality. It Meant a lot for us.

Congrats.

Playing Dragon's Crown online and somebody's sorceress is named MEGAMILK.

STAY CLASSY.

Picked up Lone Survivor last night. I only got to play about an hour before bed, in the dark with headphones in. It's fucking cool. I think I'm a little bit stuck because I wasted most of my handgun ammo, but I really enjoyed what little I played of it. Looking forward to starting again and playing it properly tonight.

do we know if PSN cross-buy indie titles will be playable on PS4 also?

holding me back from buying eg hotline miami, lone survivor etc

Played SFxT for the first time last night. This game need a saturation slider. Was even playing on the lowest brightness, but those colours were really killing my eyes (playing in the dark, btw).
The game itself is great. Wish the camera was a bit closer though.

A whimsy buy (initiated in a small way buy the nice looking PS4 remote play functionality), and I'm now the proud owner of a vita.

Got armfuls of stuff via PS+ but had an absolute blast playing "Stealth Inc" last night, looking forward to Terraria/Starbound and the far future like Hyper Light Drifter.

As far as "Whipping it out" in public, it kept me entertained in the doctors office this morning, but I did feel pretty self conscious*.

*ahem

The level of my "I don't give a damn" instinct in terms of playing Vita in the public sometimes create events such as, once, I yelled in glee when I managed to fell the Red Dragon boss in Dragon's Crown. It resulted in quite a number of people looking at my direction with eyebrows raised, hahaha.

Ahhhhh well.

Funny...when I was younger I was super-conscious about even just taking out my PSP in public. A couple of years later and I had no problem playing with my DS Lite anywhere (my only worry was dropping the stylus and losing it).

I use my Vita pretty much anywhere too if I feel like it. The only inappropriate situations being the obvious like social gatherings and events. And places with bright sunlight.

EDIT: It's too bad the show House MD is already off the air. House was playing with handhelds all the time. That's a great (and believable) product placement right there if he had his hands on a Vita. Plus, he's kinda representative of the core Vita demographic too. (With regards to age range, social status and gender, not the drug abusing part...)

Hi Guys,

I just joined Neogaf, (ive used to only read the forum) but finally i am a member.

I've just got a Vita (killzone bundle) from my girlfriend (birthday gift). (im from Amsterdam, the Netherlands so forgive me for my bad grammar) With the bundle came 9 extra games (wipeout, littlebigPlanet, Motorstorm, and a couple of psp games) and the included 2 memorycards of 8 gig.

I bought an extra 32 memory card with it, cause i dont want to swap my memory cards.

Ive already bought a couple of games and this is what i think:
- Killzone, very pretty visually and almost ended the single player 8.5/10
- Wipeout, very pretty visually and i love futureristic racers 8.5/10
- Persona 4, wowww just wowww. 9.5/10
- Motorstorm didnt play it yet... atleast not more than 10 minutes.
- Little big Planet, very pretty but not my kind of game.

pspgames i downloaded:
-GTA chinatown wars, a lot cooler then the DS version 7,5/10
-GTA vice city stories, its a OK game 7/10
-God of War ghost of Sparta, wooowww very impressive for a psp release. 8/10

As also a 3ds owner, i must admit that the Vita is a very impressive little machine, the OLED screen is a beauty, and the whole PSnetwork stuff is awesome... so much great titles. After i played Wipeout for hours, i just wanted to see how mario kart looks again... dont do it people, the screen of the 3DS is just......bleh.... its cool and all, but its crap compared to the Vita.

As you can see i already have a lot of games, im also want to buy Uncharted, but its 25 euros, so its better to get the ps+ account cause then its free.

Long post im sorry guys, but its just that im stoked about the Vita right now.

Welcome to the club! Is it me or is vita Gaf getting bigger?

We have this one right after Gamescom but $h@d0w stopped updating it.

VitaGAF can use someone with his passion--too bad he got juniored though, for being a tad bit too passionate.

I stopped updating it because there are too many damn games!

I also think it's a bit counter productive maintaining a static list, this kind of stuff should be in a database. So I started doing some wiki edits on Giant Bomb but my output can't match dedicated people like BlackLagoon. He's a beast there.

I'm glad I got juniored in some ways as I think I go on GAF too much. I do so out of boredom and I rarely have something of actual substance to contribute, just silly quips and pithy comebacks.

Edit - reddit also has a decent text only list: http://www.reddit.com/r/vita/wiki/games/releases/dates/fullna

I did enjoy making an image filled list of highlight games though, I feel that's useful in convincing people that the Vita has a diverse and growing library.

Welcome! Now that's an awesome gift. I wish the KZ:M bundle was available in other regions. Such a great game deserves more exposure.

I'm actually quite tempted to give Killzone a whirl on vita now. Seems like its well regarded just about everywhere, and feedback here seems positive.

I've already sneaked a bit more time on it this morning during a particularly boring conference call, I can imagine it getting quite the workout on that alone.

Yeah the bundle was great, but even greater when i heard that i would also receive the 10 other games and a extra 8 gig memory card. (i thought it were 9 games but i now see that are 10 games with it)

the 10 games are:

-Wipeout
-Motorstorm
-Little Deviants
-Little Big Planet
-Equilibrim (something like this)
-Ratchet and Clank
- Lemmings
-Rotating octopus
-Hungry Giraffe
- Frobisher says

So all this + killzone mercenaries for a total of 199 euros. (thats just the same as 199 dollars) (a dollar in the gameindustry is the same as 1 euro)

The game's definitely worth your time. I finished the single player campaign and it was better than I expected. The AI is a treat to play against and the levels have multiple paths that aren't obvious on the first playthrough. I've got other games on my backlog to complete so I've set it aside for now but I'll be diving back in again soon.

I paid at least 50 percent more for a WiFi vita with 32gb memory card and uncharted at launch. Feels bad, man.

yeah but youre playing atleast a year longer then me :-)

Its a wifi/3g vita by the way, with a simcard for 3 months with 3 gig of "free" usage. But 3g really sucks in europe so i dont even know whats it for.

I really enjoyed Tearaway at the Eurogamer Expo yesterday. I'm actually looking forward to it now.

I got to play Batman very briefly. It looked good graphically, so no need to worry about it being a shoddy 3DS port.

Yeah I got the 3G one too, though I'm not sure how much use I'll get from it, got the same card plus 10 games also but no KZ, shade under 180 euro or £149.

@omg_mjd Cheers that man, I may wander amazon-wards presently.

That IGN top 25 list is terrible. No Soul Sacrifice? Killzone ranked 14 (the fuck). Gravity Rush deserves way more credit than being put as the last one the list, it should at least be in the top 10. Where's Everybody's Golf? This is more subjective but Virtrua Tennis 4 and DoA5 also deserved to be on the list.

I'm sorry but that list only reinforces the stigma that the vita has, pretending like the exclusives are nothing to write home about, mostly name multi platform games and put indie games in a weird order. Spelunky better than Gravity Rush? Escape Plan better than Killzone? Really?!

They are making me feel that they want the Vita to bomb and is trying their best to do so.

We could share a Dropbox / Google Drive document for sharing the burden. We could build the list together. The guy in charge of the thread would only need to copy paste the additions there. Or somenthing like that.

I didn't like the list either.

Gravity Rush should have been in the Top10. Killzone Mercenary too. And Soul Sacrifice, at least in the 15th position or so (it's not a game for everyone, but it's still awesome).

The lack of Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward in IGN's top 25 games for the PS Vita is... well beyond me (didn't Collin really praise that game in his review?). More people should check that game out (not through the demo, it gave me the wrong impression).

(Also, don't make the same mistake I did by playing Virtue's Last Reward before its predecessor 999; for the best experience play 999 first, then VLR).

Lone survivor has been out a couple of days. Anybody can offer some opinions about it or rate it? I am kinda still on the fence.

Ahhhhh well.

Wow, I envy you or anyone who can play games outside among the crowds. I just.....can't do it even when the people actually mind their own business.

That list is different from my list! IGN suck! What a joke.

Seriously, this shit happens every freaking time. People get so worked up about those kinds of lists. If I made a top 25 Vita list most people would disagree with it too. It's nothing worth complaining about. Those kind of lists are opinions and nothing more.

Lone survivor has been out a couple of days. Anybody can offer some opinions about it or rate it? I am kinda still on the fence.

I haven't actually picked up the Directors Cut, but the original Lone Survivor was well worth the 10 dollars I paid for it. The story doesn't try to play above it's means and stays very personal and dark unlike other indies (I'm looking at you Braid.) and the graphical style helps to invoke that darkness along with the music.

If you're looking for a slow paced 2D survival horror game, can't go wrong with Lone Survivor. Just know that it's very deliberate in it's speed and is story driven.

At my college, you see people whip out 3DS and Vitas everywhere. Just the other day I sat with 3 other dudes and played a few missions in Soul Sacrifice. Vitacats are out there. Also, downloading Atelier Totori Plus from the Japanese sale. I only played Rorona on PS3, but never finished. Will Totori be better?

just played the PC version, but that is my opinion:

if you liked Silent Hill 2 then this game is for you. i really had a great time with it, not only because it just feels like Sillent Hill, but also sometimes it is very creepy. never thought a 90p-Pixel-2D game could raise my heartbeat!

if you never played it i would recommend you the Vita version, bedtime and lights off!

Edit: the music is also great!
