Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

It's a great fps but my problem is I an pretty bored of that genre. I basically just play a few games here and there and that's it. I used to be able to play fps games for hours at a time but now i can only do a couple of games then stop.
Play less of them. It's possibly my least played genre now (never used to be) so those that I do choose to play are like a breath of fresh air.

Yup I hardly ever play them these days.

Il get bf4 with my ps4 but that's a bit different. Will prob mainly play it with my brother now and then.

Hello Vitagaf. Going on a trip soon, many hours on a plane and in the airport. Naturally, I am looking for a good vita game to pass the time.

Are there any indie rpg's? Specifically something turn based or strategy based (i.e. doesn't require twitch speed or continued attention). Thanks!

Psp games?
Tactics ogre
Persona 3 portable

Both those are huge and require no twitch.

Yoshitsune is my main persona in P4 and will be in P4G. Power Charge + Heat Riser + Hassou Tobi all day as long as it doesn't absorb or block physical damage. His resists aren't bad either.
All he needs is Repel/Absorb/Resist Ice, Wind, Dark and nothing will stop him. :)

U-Play announced today Tadeo Jones the videogame for Vita.
Tadeo Jones is a children successful spanish animated movie over here.
An Indiana Jones-esque parody in short terms.

It's expected to be released by the end of the year.

Long gameplay trailer.

It looks surprisingly good graphics-wise at some points. Gameplay is the typical movie tie-in

Very irritating when the connection error message appears during the middle of a match in Killzone: Mercenary, it would be OK if my progress was saved.

Hi, hi!
I'm about to get a Vita from a really sweet deal (brand new wifi only model, 4gb memory card and a game card with Mortal Kombat for just about 90euros). Kinda new to the whole PlayStation Network brand (I'm a owner of ps2 slim and phat psp, but have rarely used psn on it, maybe for few demos), so I would greatly appreciate if you guys can clear up some things for me.
Firstly, from what I know, the Vita itself is not region locked, but the PSN account is. Because I live in a small southeast european country (we have PSN Bulgaria, but it's new, empty and with bad support) my question is, can I register an UK(or US) account and use UK(or US) cards for PS+ or prepaid for £10-20 without the need of credit card information linked to my account? Also, using said UK(or US) account, can I use prepaid cards from the German(or US) Amazon(for example, since they are in euros and have digital delivery)? Or is it possible to just use my paypal with whatever account I create?

The other thing that concerns me is buying second hand games. I've read that trophy support is locked for second hand games, but there is a workaround by formatting the game card. Is this method still working? I have a good deal for Souls Sacrifice too, but it's second hand and with already used online pass. Is the game playable without the pass, can I get the dlcs and actually buy only the online pass from psn (using some prepaid cards) without redit card information linked to my account?

And lastly, about online play - is it region locked? Can I, from EU, play with someone from US?

Thanks a lot and sorry for the long post!

It is possible to create a PSN ID for any region you want. The only limiting factor is really your ability to get pre-paid cards for the region in question. You do not need to have any credit card information associated with your account to redeem pre-paid cards.

Be aware of DLC region locking. If you create a US PSN ID, DLC will not be compatible with any local game carts you purchase as they are technically different regions. Likewise, if you import a game from the US and are using an EU PSN ID, even if DLC for the game is available on the EU storefront, it will not be compatible.

Or is it possible to just use my paypal with whatever account I create?

While PayPal is an option for a majority of PSN Stores, your PayPal account's country must match said PSN Store. For example, my PayPal account is Australian but I have a UK PSN ID and thus cannot use it on the UK storefront.

When you insert a game cart into your Vita, it creates a "bubble" that stores information like patches and so forth in it. If you delete this bubble, it formats the cart and enables trophy support again. The downside is that it deletes any save files stored in the bubble (PS+ members are able to work around this by uploading saves to their cloud storage).

And lastly, about online play - is it region locked? Can I, from EU, play with someone from US?

Online play as far as I'm aware is not region locked (at least for Western releases). The only real limiting factor is the ability to redeem online passes for games that require one (going back to cart and PSN ID compatibility).

Hi, welcome! I cannot answer the euro related questions, but for us psn, you can just buy psn codes off of amazon (you need to create a us amazon account with a fake us address, but they accept international cards). I also believe for Euro psn, you can add psn credits using PayPal.

Online play depends on the game. Certain games are region locked, but I believe most games are not. Hope this helps.

Also, since you are new, the vita OS works like a smartphone OS in that if you delete a game bubble, all related data, including saves, are deleted. So be sure to backup your game onto the pc before you delete it. Or you can subscribe to ps+ and upload all your saves to the cloud.

Hey there mate, if you're getting a Vita and want to use a US account, then you'll be OK, just make a US account, and get US PSN cash codes from Amazon.com, but make sure you use an american billing address for both so you don't get charged extra tax.

I don't think Trophies are locked for 2nd hand/used Vita games as I have a used copy of Gravity Rush Asia reg. and got trophies from it.
DLC however IS region locked, so if you're gonna rock a US PSN account make sure you get any retail game from US if you plan on getting its DLC.

BTW US PSN is having an offer:
Buy Anything from the US Store for $50, get $10 back, if you don't mind spending crazy, there are a lot of decent games on US PSN, ESPECIALLY PSX games, if you've been playing them all your life in 50 Hz, then playing them in their original speed on DAT OLED screen will be visual bliss~

That was quick! Thank you very much for the answers, Aytrial!
Just one more thing regarding this DLC region lock you mentioned - I got that I wont be able to use DLCs downloaded from US PSN ID with a game card brought from EU, but will I be able to use DLCs downloaded from UK PSN ID with a game card brought from Germany(for example)? In other words is the European region split in "sub-countries-regions"? Because, from what I know, prepaid cards from Germany wont work with UK PSN ID.

And from the looks of it, I'll be better of to create an UK account and use my Bulgarian paypal if it works or just purchase cards from sites like amazon.uk.co and such, right?

Edit: You guys are awesome, didn't expect that much attention in just few minutes! Thanks!

Not every Vita game has locked trophies. I'm a bit fuzzy on exact criteria, but I believe it's any game that stores saves locally on the cart instead of the actual Vita. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

All of Europe uses the same region coding as far as I'm aware, so you should be fine there.

You are wrong.

After you delete game buble and old save together with it you can earn trophies normally.

Huh I'm unaware of that...

For the last part, UK/EU PSN has the better PS Plus offers for Vita, more so than US PSN, but if you're gonna use a UK PSN account for your Vita, avoid most PSX games and look into any PSP game that would interest you.

No, what I meant was the only carts that cause trophies to be locked are the ones that store the saves on the actual cart, which is why deleting the save/bubble unlocks trophies.

Has anyone played Madden 13 on Vita? I bought Madden 12 on PSP for about $5 last year and I'm looking to upgrade so I don't have to dig out my PSP every time I want to play football. Are there any game breaking glitches or anything? I'm basically looking for just a functional game similar to Madden 12.

It is serviceable. EA put no extra effort into this game but it is a decent handheld Madden game. Be sure to update with the latest patch as it helps the game run much more smoothly.

It should work most of the time, but there are games where the retail release is specific to certain countries on PS3, so it might be the case with the Vita too. The DLC should have a warning saying something like "To play this content you must be using Disc ID BLES00389" then, so you can check the ID on the card to see if you've got a compatible product.

I edited my previous post, but in case you missed it:
"You guys are awesome, didn't expect that much attention in just few minutes! Thanks!"
So yea, thanks a lot! :)

I'm definitely thinking of subscribing to PS+, mostly because of the instant game collection, it really sounds like a great deal. And if that's the case with UK PS+ having better offers for the Vita, I'll go with UK.

And one stupid question, but just to make sure - when formatting a game card, you can't delete the actual game, right? Only saves, updates, DLCs and whatever user content is stored there?

Thanks for the clarification about DLC's region, will keep it in mind. And talking about DLCs, can I download the free DLCs for Soul Sacrifice without the online pass?

Now I need to find Persona 4 Golden (big, big fan of the series) that is actually cheaper then the console itself...

For bubbles created from game carts, that is the case. However, for digital downloads of games, the bubble is also the game itself, so if you delete it you have to download the game again.

I see, that's an useful information, which I would have learned the hard way. :D And one more thing regarding this topic - is it possible to delete only the downloaded game, but not the saves? Asking regarding the memory card size and when it gets full (in my case that will be 4gb and roughly 2 games max) and I want to download a new game, but in the same time keep the saves for the other. Or I should backup them on my PC or (if available at the time) PSN Cloud storage?

Saves and games are tied to together, which is an unfortunate oversight by Sony. As you mentioned, your only options are your PC or cloud storage.

Also, good luck trying to get by on a 4GB card. Even I went in going physical-only and I still exceeded my 16GB memory card in a short span of time because of a lot of digital-only titles!

Quick question, do any PSP games feature camera control via the right analogue on Vita? I'm thinking about Monster Hunter and MGS: Peace Walker specifically. I know someone said that Type-0 does but that's only available in Japanese and with the recent rumblings I'm waiting for an eventual Vita version *fingers crossed*

Well I mean, you can set practically any camera control scheme to the right analog, so most of the PSP games that offer camera control should have a scheme in the Vita's emulation settings to allow you to assign it to the right analog stick.

Basically, any PSP game that has a manual camera control scheme using either the d-pad or face buttons can fit the quote. It's just a matter of reassigning the buttons to the appropriate direction on the Vita's right analog stick.

The only game I've actually had a chance to do this with is God Eater Burst. It's a bit touchy, but it's a lot better in my opinion.

Yes, the two games you mentioned can use the second analog stick. Press the PS button when playing the game to bring up emulator options.

I think the main ones that suck are the GTA Stories games, they have some wacky camera control scheme that makes it impossible to map to the right stick.

you can map the camera on any PSP game with camera controls on d-pad and R/L to the right stick. for an example Gurumin uses L/R for camera but you can map it to right stick.

It's mindboggling that Vita didn't get the android version of the original GTA Vice City (way better than Stories crap), It plays so well with buttons and dual sticks on Shield.

At least, there is a work around this thing too. it's something.gif :)

He-he, thank you, will need it. :) But for the foreseeable feature I'll have to deal with it. I'll look to it as a challenge, rather then a problem. After all, for few years I used my 360 with 20GB HDD(only 12GB available to the user) and only played installed games (or 'a' game, in some cases :D).

If you have PS+, using cloud storage is the easiest way to back-up saves. But yeah, you could back up the games in your PC just in case. Or the PS3.

And buy a 16gb if you don't want to spend a lot of money. In Europe you could find it for 30-35 euros, maybe less. In Amazon.es there is a deal where you can buy it for 25 euros, but you were from Bulgaria, right? I don't know where to buy there.

Just beat Uncharted. Loved it. It was really damn good, great length too.

Loved:
-Sometimes the touch to climb gimmick was really useful when I kept missing a jump
-Graphics were great
-I thought the story was acceptable (it was a little different from U1-3 from what I remember)
-Great characters (but not really the villains), everything felt pretty believable though!

My complaints:
-I didn't like how the treasures were set up.
-The two 'boss' fights
-I hated some of the swipe gimmicks and the balance gimmick
-Shooting took me 32 chapters to get used to.

I never want to play another uncharted without touch to climb. Ever.
Though I am surprised to hear you missed jumps -- for me the climbing in Uncharted has always been "hold toward where you want to climb and mash x". Dying while climbing in Uncharted, for me at least, is pretty rare. So the convenience of just swiping the path and having auto climb was a godsend for my boredom/annoyance during the climbing sections of GA.
Also, I'm not sure you can blame the shooting on Uncharted in this case. I think it takes 32 chapters for you to get used to the 'throw" of the Vita sticks. Some people alleviated this by using the gyro aiming to help offset the difference between a DS3 analog and a Vita analog. I'm not a fan of the gyro aiming personally, though.

You mean Square-Enix. Their shitty digital pricing is legendary.

The page he linked is a us.playstation.com page -- which then takes you to the full priced TO game in the store. So in that case, I think the troll is on Sony's part. ;)

Thanks for the replies guys, I don't own any PSP games so I had no idea how they handled emulation. That's pretty cool and will come in handy when I buy Peace Walker which I found a bit of a hassle to play on a friend's PSP.

Piss Walker is pretty bad tho (Kojima last good game was MGS3, both MGS4 and PW are awful) buy good PSP games like Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure, Persona 2 EP, God Eater or Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky.

GAF how does chaos rings runs on PSM? I heard the game and PSM were patched and now there are no slowdowns. Is the game in english? cause screenshots show Japanese.

EDIT: Top of Page: Buy or PLay Virtues Last reward. Amazing game. But make sure u end 999 first :p

I'm thinking of getting an year long subscription, so will use the cloud storage for sure.
About memory cards in Bulgaria, that will be 50euros for 16gb, and I'm getting the console itself (+ memory card and a game) for around 90euros (not sure about the delivery service), so will skip on the 16gb, just not worth more then half of the console price, imo. Talking about in my particular case of course. But looking at the game sizes of the games, most of them are in the 1gb range (with some exceeding 2gb, and uncharted is one of the few over 3gb), adding game cards and i'll be good to go with 4-5 games at a time. More then enough for me anyway.
