vtubers?

before

after

gonna be crazy next year when she performs at the Budokan. I think that place has a max capacity of 14K+ and has a prestige to it since famous performers like The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Mariah Carey had all done their shows there.

on a side note, I'm back from my trip. did get some merch while in Tokyo, but not a lot since everything I found are pretty overpriced. did learn about the official pop up store in Tokyo Station and went there, but turns out they require advance reservation so I was only able to look from the outside. also visitied the Capcom collab thing but sadly no Fubuki stuff wheb I was there and everything they had are in claw machines. after giving about 10 tries and not getting anything, I just call it a day. had never been a fan of gacha and claw machines to start with. will post some pics later after I got back to the regular.

Chloe the Orca had announced she'll stop all activities come January 26th, 2025, due to "her goal not overlapping with HoloLive's pathway and she being constantly sick with her throat."

they are not treating this as a graduation but a "conclusion of streaming activities", where it is still possible for the member to appear in future HoloLive events in some form.

kinda sad about Chloe and all the talents we lost this year in HoloLive. but I feel this is something that's part of what happens when a company got so big and going public. its direction will change and some talents just won't be able to adjust to it.

It's a big loss for me as I am much more into the music side of HL. Oh well, part of being corp vtubers... I'll always hate this part of the industry. lol

Just saw it on X. Not the stinky Orca :lollipop_crying:
Maybe she will quickly respawn...
She is apparently part of Matsuri's indie Idol group Pastel Honey. I personally can't hear it, but she did admit to faking her voice (cutesy anime voice) and people have been saying that it is her so I guess I'll believe it until someone says otherwise. lol

That would explain why she has throat problems after every stream.

Fauna will also make a "Serious Announcement" in 2 hours...

Welp, she's graduating too due to "disagreements with management."

Are things going awry over at Cover?

I think the current Cover is getting to the size in terms of the number of talents and the scale of the company that they have to really pick and choose what they do and how to use the resources they have. that would certainly create situations where those who joined from before the change in direction and just want to do their own thing to reconsider their position and whether if they want to keep going with it or get out of the company. the vtuber industry had changed a lot in the last few years and I imagine it's also a lot easier to be a successful indie vtuber now so maybe she wants to go back to being more unrestricted and carefree in terms of what she does? who knows. it's always sad seeing them leave but I feel at least they're parting in good terms as far as we can tell. all we can do is be happy for knowing them and give them a fond farewell.

I think the saying "support your oshi while you can since you never know when they'll be gone." or "cheerish your time with your oshi." is something we should always keep in our mind and heart.

I still honestly wonder what the "change in direction" from Hololive really means. Clearly 5 of those who graduated / will graduate stated those changes or "disagreement with management" as reason for graduation now.
According to Hololive and some hints from ex-members this change is to focus more on the "idol" side of things get away from the "streamer / entertainer" part. So for some people like the extremely introverted Aqua or the experimental Ame, I can understand that this direction isn't exactly their favorite thing, so it made all sense to me.

But Fauna for example says that it's not because she doesn't want to do idol stuff. Maybe the reason for Fauna is just different. Could also be a money thing. More focus on idol stuff could mean getting less money share as more needs to be invested into idol stuff, I guess.

Monetarily, it's not looking good for Vtuber in general. The more open indie Vtubers for example stated that they earn only about 60% of the money they earned last year, despite increasing subscriber counts (one stated she earned like $50000 last year total, but not even $30000 this year so far). I assume this is because people having less money left over to spend freely, and also because the donations are spread over way more Vtubers now.

I think out of the same reason so many Vtuber corps closed down this year.

I guess Vtubing will slowly transform from a job to a hobby except maybe for the top 100 most popular ones.

I think Hololive switching to focus more on idol stuff is out of the same reason. Just streaming is not worth the money anymore.

To me this looks like they're all not liking their new contracts.

Eh, I have seen this being said a couple times now, but her saying that she isn't quitting because she doesn't want to be an idol, doesn't necessarily mean that she is okay with much more workload in that area. The current status quo is what she loves, but not what is added to it.

"Ayo, Fauna... here's your new contract."
"but it says I have to do 10 songs next year... and a 3D performance at HQ every two months? I have to come to the studio more often in general? Is there room for negotiations? I have cats I need to take care of!"
"no can do, this is what we expect from you going forward!"
"Then I have no other choice but to quit!"

Like if the new contract states that she has to fly to Japan more often for work, or the EN side has to meet up more often for concerts (also prep work, group dancing sessions etc) in the US and eventually EU concerts, then I can see how this would be asking for too much. This isn't what they signed up for years ago and I can see more of them quitting over it. I mean some of the EN talents moved to Japan to make work easier, so... I dunno.

I mean I find the discrepancy between EN and JP funny anyway, Laplus has spoken about Chloe's exit and Laplus says that she works a lot at the studio. Most of her month is being spent there and there is more HL work outside the studio, too (and then you go home and stream for 2-3 hours? nah man). She said that Chloe is already super busy and she loves sleeping in, so you can make an educated guess here and say that Chloe would've faced an increased workload, so the same is prolly true for EN talents.

I personally don't dislike where Cover (or the whole Japanese industry?) is moving, though... as I've said, I enjoy the music side of Hololive much more and they have opened up quite a bit over the past year. We now have Niji x Holo or Holo x Niji x VSpo (Team Ahamo) collabs, something unthinkable 2 years ago and tbh if we get a full on vTuber festival at some point I'd be elated... it does suck when a lot of the older gens are quitting over it, though.

Looks like Kizuna Ai is going to wake up in 87 days?!

Now I just need Pmaru going back to being Kaguya Luna for the full nostalgia hit. I watched them so much 7-8 years ago. lol. I hope this is a real comeback/redebut and not just something small.

Everyone: Gura is going to graduate soon, because she doesn't stream much

What's actually happening:
dpkujVr.png
My bet is Gura has wanted to quit but she actually holds more power being the most subscribed to Vtuber ever, so Cover has probably paid her more than enough to just stick around and do special events here and there. But even Gura has started posting more of her past life account.

I'm beginning to wonder if the recent En Vtubers are leaving is because of this:

I kinda doubt it. in Ame's case, she's already in the entertainment industry, and like it or not Hollywood IS a big part of it. so avoiding CA doesn't really make sense. as for Fauna, I don't know where she's base out of IRL, so I can't really comment on it. but I honestly don't see that as the reason. plus, I'm pretty sure the whole official US office being in CA had been known for a long time. didn't Botan and Korone visited Cali earlier this year and interviewed Max the head of Cover US branch (aka Saigo)?

as someone who lived in So Cal for 30 years now, I never understand the Cali hate. I've been to plenty of different states from NY to WY. they all have their strengths and weaknesses and it all depends on what you prefer. CA is simply the most logical choice for a Cover US branch due to it being pretty much the closest mainland US state to Japan. with daily direct flights going between the two countries and easy access to a lot of resources. if someone can't handle going to CA from time to time for work, then that's honestly something they have to workout themselves and I honestly don't see Fauna being that kinda person.
