I mean for anyone who was around in 1983 and 1984 at least Atari, Coleco and Intelivision games were in actual bargin bins marked down to $1 to $5 per game. it was such a great time to pick up so many great games. God bless physical games.

Not that I truly believe Xbox is dead, but I'm really curious if there could be some class action by customers if they suddenly lose access to their libraries. Not sure how much notice they would have to give, or if offering cloud streaming would be a legal loop hole.

Nothing stopping people playing their libraries on their existing hardware.

Pretty sure I saw this a few times around the Switch 2 launch., but my takeaway was that the local store wanted to separate the games so 1 owners didn't buy them by accident and the Xbox sections had a high probability of languishing waiting for purpose, so I didn't take it as some directive from above to revamp the displays. Has that actually happened, or they just using the green shelves for the ever expanding Switch 2 library because they're empty?

Are the Microsoft board in a coma? How does Phil still have a job after what he's overseen.
Still have a job? He's probably getting bonuses quarterly due to all the studio closures and lay offs and game cancellations cost saving measures he's implementing. It's his personal piggy bank at this point to siphon his own riches.

Him and his executive team are gonna siphon as much value out of this for their own bonus checks and leave it a dead husk for some equity firm to come in and buyout the shells of studios and IP.

He's meeting his KPIs

2024
1. Start transition to 3rd party
2. Downplay effects to Xbox customers
3. Grow Gamepass subscriptions

2025
1. Ramp up 3rd party
2. Wind down hardware
3. Milk existing Gamepass subscribers

2026
1. Go full 3rd party, all games across all platforms within same window
2. Transition console userbase over to PC via OEM hardware

2027
1. Maximise game sales across PC, PS5, PS6, Switch 2, cloud

You guys have no idea, I have an inside source (my ass) that told me Microsoft are opening Xbox Stores (a la Apple) all over the world, to make way for the super hyped Xbox Ally X...

It's also weird that they are doing it right before the start of the Christmas shopping season.

You'd think they would want to push Xbox as much as possible through December.
It makes sense if you think about it in terms of making more space for items that will actually sell. An overpriced dead item, will still sit on the shelf, holiday or not.

Indeed, consoles and games are huge sellers in November and December

Makes sense that they'd want to expand floor space to them (the ones that sell anyway).

Strange is Xbox denying reality. Their brand is at an all time low and it feels it's all on purpose.

They keep pushing Game Pass and phase out their consoles slowly until nothing remains. Legit doubt there will be a proper next-gen hardware.

It's not that strange. They also knew there would be more than four games. It's just not time to signal reality to the remaining base yet. It IS on purpose, but why suffer any more cancellations than necessary when you can deflect.

Phil Spencer : Ok.....how we can ruin Xbox brand at fastest rate ?
Sarah Bond : Ok, we first quit producing consoles...then we increase the price of consoles, then we port all first party games to PS and Switch,
finally we increase price of GP at ridiculous rate so none wants to subscribe.

Phil Spencer: That's what I'm talking about !!!
Employee of the year !!!
For this plan we will give you double bonus this year!!!

If big retailers are starting to do this it's probably a sign that it's pretty much over for Series hardware and Microsoft has probably warned retailers to simply try to get rid of current inventory.
Basically they're phasing out the product.
It's hard to understand how they will hide this though given that it's unlikely they'll have a replacement product until the end of 2026 at the earliest.

They're price gouging like there's no tomorrow because they don't plan on there being a tomorrow for Xbox and Gamepass.

But is anyone surprised that Walmart is also stopping selling Xboxes? It's clear that Xbox has given up on the console and will let it die without saying anything.

So yeah....as I said on here yesterday, you can safely bet on Walmart and Bestbuy doing across the board heading into 2026( hell they may do it in time for Xmas 2025, why waste space on Xbox hardware at this point?). Still want an Xbox? Order off their websites, direct from Microsoft, Amazon, or go into Gamestop where they'll have limited on-hand stock for the 5 people every month who didn't want an Xbox at $300-500 price-points, so they can buy them at $400-$800 instead.

Not a surprise. I wouldn't be shocked if Walmart and the others pull out of gaming entirely, including Nintendo and PS by 2027.
Yes. Pull a product from the shelves that we can still actively sell in droves.

Makes perfect sense that mate. You're very business minded.

These takes are always weird to me. Do you think Phil made gamepass himself? The whole point of Xbox was to get people into a MS eco system. Even at the start of Xbox one it was reported the Xbox division had to get so many subscribers by 2025 or 26 I forget which.

Phil is a head piece. His main Job is marketing, communication, and negotiation with other companies. I doubt he has but little influence with the really big decisions.

But he also gets paid millions a year so I don't feel bad for him in the slightest about anything. lol
