Want to pair your DualSense controller to multiple devices at once?

Nishino is cooking.

I wonder if the DualSense will get a firmware update to allow it to connect to PS Link. I wonder if this is the case whether DualSense will get full feature set on PC through PS Link connection in addition to wired.

Or I'm reading into things and it will simply allow multiple Bluetooth pairings, which is still a win for those who want to use their controllers on both console and PC without having to unpair one and re-pair one.

Edit: Unless there is some hidden RF radio on the dualsense it's going to be the latter.

That would be handy. Though funny enough, I find it sometimes troublesome to pair with the PS5 itself. It always hooks up reliably to anything else.

If unpaired from the PS5, connect the controller with the cable to the PS5. press the PS button of the controller to turn it on and it will be auto paired. For some reason i also have dificulty to pair it without cable as well.

interesting. I have 1 dualsense that's basically only used on PC, but if I have some friends over it would be nice if I could easily switch between both PC and PS5.
that's especially true due to how backwards ass Sony still does their controller pairing on console... GIVE ME A FUCKING PAIR BUTTON!!! I don't want to have a USB cable on my console at all times to pair shit to, and I also don't want to have to fiddle around with USB cables when I want to pair a controller!

on top of that I have 2 PS5s, so even without that 1 Dualsense I use primarily on PC, I still have to do that USB pairing shit from time to time simply to move controllers around from one ps5 to the other

Why announce something like this earlier instead of just releasing the update?

The feature by itself is common in new Bluetooth devices so I wonder what this is actually for? Portal TV App ? PlayStation PC games getting a overhaul? Portal Table Top ? ( Wishful thinking 😭) Portal TV Stick

Sidenote: I hope we're also getting updated controllers with PS Link & they allow direct connection to Portal for somewhat of a table top mode even though the screen is a little small for that but so is Switch.

Lol both our minds went to PS Link

Hold the PlayStation button & share button until the light starts blinking

They're definitely going to be pushing more PS Remote/Cloud support on TVs. Probably a lot to do with cloud streaming leaving beta soon.

Whether they release a Portal TV stick is another question. Should be easier to generally work with tv manufacturers to get the app on existing TVs and then the only burden becomes buying the controller.

PS Cloud with this update would allow you to sync your controller to your tv and a tablet or a Ps5 and a PC. It's actually a pretty meaningful value add.

Why announce this rather than just releasing the update? Because when you just release the update people ask why this stuff comes out of no where like the PS fighting stick.

I've mentioned before but the next 18 months are going to be really interesting for PlayStation. I think Nishino is in the kitchen cooking a lot of ecosystem stuff.

Nice. I like to remote play on my macbook sometimes but having to pair every time and then re-pair to the ps5 is extremely annoying.

PLEASE make this work with the PS VR2 controllers as well. When switching between PC and PS5 I have to unplug the standing charger dongles to plug the cable every time.
(if I don't need to do this, then please let me know how)

We know what this is for...

Youd think that would be foolproof but I've had it not work, as well. Twice I had to hit the reset button on the back. I've never heard of anyone else having that. I also have problems pairing it wirelessly but seems semi-common.

Still strange to announce a QoL feature early especially when the feature would be more for other products rather than a PS5 feature.

Something else that comes to mind is that they will be focusing on user-base rather than unit sales going forward.

I believe Portal will be changing from a Device to an ecosystem/app.

It makes sense to call all the streaming situations Portal .

...that doesn't work on PS5 my guy... that's the issue. the only way to connect a controller to a PS3/4/5 is through USB, and that's fucking retarded
No, you can pair a dualsense to the PS5 using the bluetooth. But you need another controler or a TV remote that can control your PS5 to start the pairing proccess.

ok, that's even more annoying and slow than just getting a USB cable. if they made this a quick select function that's right there in the "Control Center" bar it would actually be useful. but the way it's implemented there seems more like a backup option if you can't find any USB cable that works.

but I guess I stand corrected... still tho, both ways are annoying. having a pair button or a very easy to access menu like on Switch would be way better than either of these

Agree, probably why they releasing this update to keep the controller paired in multiple devices. Will see how it works as i use my Dualsense between my PC and PS5 and right now the pairing process is not as good as it could be.

Sony isn't tethered to PS5.

They announced the streaming functionality early for the PS Portal. They announced the PC PSVR2 adapter early as well.

The new fight stick works on PS5 and PC, untethered from day 1.

Sony is building a brand and a platform that is going to become more and more clear over the next year and a half. PS5 will be central to their platform unlike the XBS which is peripheral to Microsoft, but Sony realizes in today's age it makes no sense to shutout consumers across the board.

I wonder how many devices will be supported. my baby blue Dualsense could potentially be used on 2 PS5s and a PC... so 3 would be nice.

This would be very welcome as everytime I pair the dualsense with my PC, I need to use the usb cable to re-pair it with the PS5 and it's a pain in the ass. Plus I only have that one cable that came with the PS5 Pro that is usb c on both ends, if I lose it, I'm kinda fucked. I mean I could plug it in the back to a usb a port but the back of my system isn't readily accessible plus both usb a ports are in use.

Maybe I'm insane but wouldn't it actually be smart to sell DualSense controllers to PS4 owners & let them play PS5 games through a PlayStation Plus subscription just like Portal owners?

Wouldn't this also make sense for the low power mode for PS5 games so that 4k isn't wasted on lower resolution displays.

It's a nice QoL update but I do agree, why mention this now?

Is this really that hard to implement that its still months away?

I suspect the PSVR2 controllers are a factor in starting this initiative, as they will soon be compatible with the Apple Vision Pro.

only sucky part is to get full dualsense haptic support controller need to be connected wired to PC.

I really don't understand why Sony do not release a proper driver to allow full support of the DualSense controller in Windows. Imagine what that would do for sales?

I cannot imagine that Microsoft could stop them even though they sell their own Xbox controller for Windows. That would be monopolistic, right, and they got burnt when they tried to do that with Internet Explorer years ago.

Now I'll be able to leave one paired to my laptop and PSTV. I wonder how it'll work though, if both are near, will it connect to both or whatever is on first?

These things don't happen overnight.

Sony doesn't have a team of a million engineers and this isn't their only focus. I'm sure Nishino has them cooking and has probably expanded the team since taking over.

Nishino has been announced as CEO of the platform business since May 2024.

Since then we've gotten this timeline

June 3rd, 2024 - Sony announces they'll be releasing a PC PSVR2 Adapter in line with an earlier February announcement.
August 27th, 2024 - Sony releases PC App for PlayStation Accessories
September 13th, 2024 - What appears to be a wireless PSVR2 is accidentally leaked via PS Marketing
November 7th, 2024 - PS5 Pro Launches
November 19th, 2024 - Sony adds streaming beta to PS Portal
December 4th, 2024 - PS adds hand tracking to PSVR2
April 9th, 2025 - Sony reveals major PS Portal UI updates
March 10th, 2026 - Cerny announces PSSR2 for PS5 Pro to become available in 2026
June 4th, 2025 - Sony announces Project Defiant Arcade Fighting Stick with native PC support

And I'm sure I'm missing things. But hopefully you get my point. That they're absolutely cooking right now, but that doesn't mean individual features are coming out tomorrow.

the control centre bar would be just as many clicks/navigating (remember you don't need to delete first like he did). It's pretty straightforward and you can even use your TV remote.

I have Echo bluetooth headphones that pair to multiple phones (after an android/firmware update) and it's a pain in the ass really. They pair to both but you never know which one it's working on. The bluetooth protocol really needs some set standards where it shows a message on all paired devices when activated and you select on the device that you're using. If this is a primary input device you can have device selection tied to specific buttons and show different buttons on each device. Don't even get me started on car bluetooth protocols. Crap connects automatically whenever the car starts so whenever somebody else starts the car they hear my phone audio until I manually disconnect. Ask me on the phone or the car when activated. It's only one click, or have an option for it at least.
Sorry for going on a small rant but bluetooth really needs an overhaul.

My guess is that holding the ps button and the share button will continue to put the dual sense into pairing mode but holding the ps button and tapping the share button will toggle between devices.

Hopefully there is some level of onscreen management via the PS5 and the PC app.

This would be great since it makes it easier to use with PC, Mac and iPad for me. I have couple controllers just for this purpose basically.

I did similar with my PC when I was still playing on Steam and with my iPad when I used to travel. The biggest pain was always pairing it up again with PS4. I also have a Brook adapter that I use on my PS3 with a DualSense, but again, hated having to sync back and forth.

I have 3 controllers, but even then I don't want to have to pair back and forth.

Yeah, I got GameSir and 8bitdo controllers which can bind to multiple devices but they don't work with PS5. And I actually like Dual Sense.

Fuck yeah, I use my edge for ps and pc but rn ive stuck with the cable on pc and wireless on ps. Hopefully means I can use both wireless.
