You're not hallucinating it. We did have a thread on this guy last year.I feel like this story has been popping up on the forum at least twice a year for a while now..anyone else notice that? Shit is weird..
All Familys Matter
I applaud and respect this guy's efforts and I see them as effective for a certain subset of white supremacists. However, I can laud his work *without* proclaiming it should be the path forward for others and *without* thinking this can be effective for the large majority of white supremacists.Looking forward to the posts that will come in saying things like "THIS is how it should be done!" and such.

Davis said President Trump — who was widely criticized for equivocating before eventually denouncing white supremacists — can't be blamed for the deadly violence in Virginia.
”He fans a lot of flames the wrong way," Davis said. ”But the racist culture that allowed Charlottesville to happen was in place long before Trump ran for president."
The silver lining of tragic events like Charlottesville, Davis said, is that they foster conversations about race that he feels are crucial to ending racism.
”Talking about race in this country has been taboo for way too long," Davis said.

50 people over 30 years doesn't seem very effective to me.
It seems like every year when some white supremacist group does something hateful enough to get news coverage, we get op-eds dedicated to this guy.
Like, stop. It's fucking offensive at this point. It's like low-key blaming white supremacy on the black people who don't go out their way to play the Magical Negro trope for a racist.
What are Antifa's racist conversion stats?

It ain't a "rare" approach.
We've called them Uncle Toms for over 100 years.

Y'all
Good question. You should ask the guy who claims this guy's way is more effective. What are Antifa's racist conversion stats?
If white supremacists come marching down my street, I'd rather have Antifa on standby. They made a movie about this. This guy is much more effective than Antifa.
What are Antifa's racist conversion stats?
Y'all who, Z? Point them out..
You expect people to react in positive manner on something like this?Do you want me to actually quote every person reacting negatively or are you just trying to shame me for using "Y'all"?
What are Antifa's racist conversion stats?
It's a rare approach and he's not an Uncle Tom unless you're just choosing to ignore what he's *actually* doing or just redefining Uncle Tom altogether. It ain't a "rare" approach.
We've called them Uncle Toms for over 100 years.
Y'all are so focused on the optics of this that you'll blast a man for doing whatever he can to end white supremacy, even if it's not his responsibility.
Applauding this guy doesn't mean white people get off scot free. But if it works, why hate on him?

What's with those negative posts? This man is awesome, I had no idea he existed.
What a gross thing to say. I'd rather have 100 of that guy than even 1 of you.
I don't know much about Antifa, but I'm pretty sure they're not going out there to win over the hearts and minds of racist, fascist trash.
What a gross thing to say. I'd rather have 100 of that guy than even 1 of you.
Elaborate and try to persuade me of why you're being dismissive of me here (that's what it came off like to me).Ñooo, cris..lol
THANK YOU.It's a shame people have and will twist what Shepherd has done in order to validate racists, because it's pretty goddamn impressive.
This definitely isn't the only path forward, and it doesn't fall on minorities to educate their oppressorsbut he "Uncle Tom" and "magical negro" labels are disgusting and unfair.(even though it's abundantly clear they're not going to educate themselves)
Exactly. If you get violent towards people, you only fuel their hate. This guy bonds with them over something else that's not about race and in the end, they forget his skin color and they realize that he's just another human being.
So you're saying you like your black folks docile, conciliatory, and willing to put up with racist white people's bullshit?
antifa defense force lol
What are Antifa's racist conversion stats?
If every black person did this racism would go away forever. Chekmat libburuls.50 people over 30 years doesn't seem very effective to me.
Didn't call him a magical negro, I referenced a trope. It's a shame people have and will twist what Shepherd has done in order to validate racists, because it's pretty goddamn impressive.

Every time this pops up I feel more insulted. Like. He fuck do you all think people have been doing since emancipation? Sitting around going "aw shucks if only those white folks didn't hate us".Yep, all the black people who have been actively discriminated against by racists.
Hunted. Murdered. Enslaved. Raped.
The problem this whole time is we just haven't been friendly enough.
Not enough eyerolls in the world.

Yep.I'm sure he's a great guy, but I only ever see his story used to belittle BLM and Antifa. It's pretty sickening frankly.
