Warhammer 40,000: Darktide - Launch Trailer

Birdman Rubbing Hands GIF

No comment? This game is amazing. Already played 20 hours in the beta and cant wait for the release today
Hey lui, I've read that the optimization is...not good - how does it run ?
I'm on a 16GB RAM, Ryzen 7 5800H + Nvidia RTX3050 Ti gaming laptop, will it run well ?
Cheers

Game is really heavy on CPU. I had good fps on my i5 13600K and 3070ti maxed out without RT, but some people with similar build and weaker cpu had much worse experience. Try it on game pass if you can or on steam and refund it if it runs badly.

Great really fun multiplayer game for anyone who even remotely liked games like L4D in the past. I have ~30 hours of playtime with the 2 betas alone. One of the few games you can actually use voicechat without getting screaming kids on the other end, too.

System:
Ryzen 7 5800x
32GB RAM
RTX 2080

Game runs @ 1440p with everything on high, RT off and DLSS balanced @ stable 60+ FPS with the latest beta build.

Where is my series X version?!

I pre-ordered this for £19.99 for a retail copy, because it honestly would've been rude not too, despite launching on game pass!

So...

I have played a lot of the beta...

Now... do I love the game? Absolutely? Would I recommend it? Ask me after 8PM tonight and I will tell you.

For reference my system is

5900x
RTX 3080 10GB
32GB DDR4 3800mhz
Installed on a 2TB m.2 Samsung 980 pro

Latest drivers for all components, and the game just crashes... all the time my friends games too, disconnects and hardcrashes to desktop every other game.

If that is fixed "fine" but considering they released a 1.8GB patch YESTERDAY for a few hours before the servers went down which had the goal of supplying them with more information about why everyone is crashing all the time I doubt it.

They also announced by discord that the crafting system won't be complete for launch, this is essentially early access at best.

Edit

Throw anouther 24 hours onto the prior beta too, where the game worked even less.

This pretty much vanished for me with the last beta Patch. But it didn´t happen that often for me to begin with.

Didn`t see that. Bummer.....

Shame they didn't get it out for Series X at the same time. i mucked about with the beta for a while, but I'm an 'ass on couch' kinda guy, so with any luck the Series X launch won't be too far away. Hopefully it'll be crossplay too.

Honestly since as far as I know the only place it was said was discord that's not surprising.

Stuff like that should really be very prominently on the store website. Seems shady and probably just for the sake of keeping preorders.

Been loving this game SO much, cannot wait to get into it more once it releases!

Shouldn't it be day one in game pass? I can't find it.
The game isn't live yet, so I'm sure that may be why. I think it's dropping at 11AM 12PM CST, maybe Game Pass will update later today?

yay... I just started it, prologue mission starts, I instantly glitch through the ground and the game crashes...
really good first impression -_-

modern game development is the fucking worst

edit: and now I have to watch an unskippable cutscene again... very close to uninstalling right now...

edit2: ok you can skip it after a minute or so

edit3: the game doesn't play well with gsync, meaning if I don't lock it to either my full refresh or half refresh the game looks like a stuttery mess...
so far, dogshit on the tech side... also this will run like ass on console I can already tell from how it runs on my PC. no wonder it got delayed on console... this will be a mess I bet

Did the tutorial and the first mission.
It's fun, but I don't think it's as good as Vermintide 2. Could be just an impression for being in the early stages of the game, with basic weapons.
Also, would prefer the curated characters of Vermintide 2. These generic self made characters are boring and lack personality.

Had one crash. But asides from that, had no bugs or glitches.
Graphics are lacking. It runs much worse than Vermintide 2, but doesn't look as good. Or maybe it's just the art style that sucks.
Optimization is bad. It does a shader compilation at start, but there are still stutters during gameplay, probably due to asset streaming.
My GPU is at 70-80% most of the time, despite not reaching 144 fps. Most of the time, it stays at around 100 fps.
Turning on FSR 2.0 gives no performance, as it seems the game is limited by something else.

I have 100% GPU usage but performance is pretty sub par.
DLSS balanced gives me 80fps on low settings at 1440p... that's kinda crazy tbh.

this runs worse (way worse) than Cyberpunk on my system.
I get 60fps with optimised settings dlss Quality in Cyberpunk with RT reflections on.

does VRR work on your end? because running at 60 to 80 fps wouldn't be that bad, but gsync doesn't work with it for me so it's a mess

It's been fine with me and Gsync, I've actually not had any stuttering issues. A crash here and there, but they're on it.

It's a shame that performance is a mixed bag for a lot of folks, but hey, not everyone's system is identical.

Fatshark has never been exceptional with performance and optimization. But that's not too surprising as they're not some gigantic AAA studio. Verminitide 1 and 2 both had a number of issues, especially at launch. But it got better.

For Darktide it's been 60+ fps at 1440 + DLSS w/ a 3080 on my end. 🤷‍♂️

I'm using a 6800XT. And Freeesync is working well.
What's your GPU?

I set Global Illumination to Low. Haven't tried high yet.
The rest is at the highest settings. But motion blur, light flares and DOF are off.

Based on the beta Id agree. Less diverse classes than vermintide, less diverse maps/environments, less diverse enemies (for some reason, slashing rats felt a lot more satisfying than slashing zombies), on top of this, it runs a lot worse.

And the mini bosses and special enemies were also better. Much more personality and variety.
In this game, the enemies all look the same.

Performances are catastrophic in this game... i7 10700K, RTX 3080 and i get low framerate ( 50-70 fps in 3440x1440)in high settings with DLSS quality on and RTX off...

Playing since it's live. No crashes so far, loved Vermintide 2 a lot and this will be no different it seems like. No problems with my 3060 on high for 1080p, very glad it does run so well.

can you show a screenshot with an FPS counter? because 1080p on high on a 3060 sounds like it's 30 to 40fps at most. I'm running at 1440p on low with DLSS Quality (roughly 920p native before upscale) and I get at most 80fps and constant dips to close to 60fps or even below.

edit: like this is a scene from the opening level.

everything is set to low, screen space reflections are off, RT is off.
1080p no DLSS no Antialiasing, Depth of field off, motion blur off.

I get 70fps here

BUT after rebooting my PC Gsync now works for some reason. seems like it's pretty buggy

I think I will try Vermintide first before trying this. I enjoyed the beta and performance was OK, but didn't like the setting and the mission variety. It also seems like most missions will be in indoor industrial complexes?
Also will want to see how the upgrade system works and if the system will keep things interesting enough to keep going and replaying the same missions over and over.
So far impressions have been mixed so waiting to see how this shakes out.

What the hell, downloaded it and...everything is in Italian, are there no language settings with this game ?

Also guys, please help me understand since I'm new to (modern) PC gaming :
1) My lappy has an RTX 3050 Ti and the game features DLSS , and yet, I'm also presented with AMD FSR settings which can also be toggled in the graphics settings ? What am I supposed to do/use ?

2) Lappy screen is 1080p @ 165Hz, am I supposed to use gsync ? If yes, how ? Is it handled by the monitor since it's 165Hz ?
I don't know what the fuck is going on...

3) I'm (finally) getting a 4K 120Hz TV this week, what the hell shall I choose when I'll connect it to my laptop ? I don't think the laptop can handle 4K resolutions of course, so, am I supposed to display my laptop on my 4K TV @ 1080p as to not have the game(s) turn into a slideshow framerate-wise ?

4) Regarding the 4K TV again : since the laptop video out is HDMI 2.0b and not 2.1, will I be able to take advantage of gsync/freesync/VRR ?

Thanks

As of now yes. Xbox version news coming shortly after launch. That version got delayed with no date

Bloody hell, oh well a small wait. Looking forward to coop on Xbox when it arrives. Sounds like waiting for some post launch fixes is the way to go anyhow.

yeah it's in german on my end and the translation is FUCKING DOGSHIT... they got someone who has no idea what a video game is to translate every menu option in the most literal way possible... and that gives you weird terms that noone in germany would ever use to describe the things they're trying to describe -_-

DLSS is Nvidia exclusive, FSR 2 and FSR 1 are available on everything. you should always use DLSS as an Nvidia user as it is faster and usually looks better.

2) Lappy screen is 1080p @ 165Hz, am I supposed to use gsync ? If yes, how ? Is it handled by the monitor since it's 165Hz ?
I don't know what the fuck is going on...

Gsync should be turned on in your Nvidia Control panel. turn on Gsync in the control panel (should by on by default) and go into your 3D settings and turn on Fast Sync (usually it's translated to your language, just google how to enable fast sync)
in game you should now always turn V-Sync (vertical synchronization) off and let Nvidia's gsync and fast sync handle the rest.

3) I'm (finally) getting a 4K 120Hz TV this week, what the hell shall I choose when I'll connect it to my laptop ? set your output to 4K, and then either use in-game resolution settings or use DLSS to get playable framerates. most modern games will let you change render resolution independently from screen resolution, so that let's you have a sharp HUD and menu, and still have playable framerates.

4) Regarding the 4K TV again : since the laptop video out is HDMI 2.0b and not 2.1, will I be able to take advantage of gsync/freesync/VRR ?

it could be that it supports freesync over HDMI 2.0b, but that is not a given since HDMI 2.0 outputs have tons of optional specs that are often not supported on lower end hardware

so I got some settings that give me 60fps now and which look pretty ok.

for anyone on a 3060ti that wants to use RT reflections, here's how I have it run now... I chose to use RT reflections because even without RT I seem to not get much higher than 60fps anyways, so I said fuck it and just use RT now since SSR is disgusting ;)

so:

FOV: 117
Resolution: 1440p
Vsync: off
DLSS: On
Super Resolution: Balanced
Reflex: Off
RT Reflections: Low
RT Lighting: Off
Ambient Occlusion: Off
Lighting: Low
Fog: Low
Depth of Field: Off
Global Illumination: Low
Bloom: On
Subsurface Scattering: off
Motion Blur: off
Lens Effects: off

and the rest on their default settings

the game doesn't save settings correctly btw. sometimes RT is off after I restart and sometimes it just launches in windows mode... super messy so far.

Much, much appreciated brother ;)
Regarding the "Gsync should be turned on in your Nvidia Control panel. turn on Gsync in the control panel" bit, well, my Nvidia control panel settings are very limited for some reason, maybe it's because it's a mobile GPU ? Or maybe i'll have to connect the laptop to an external display for the options to show up ?

Anyway, there's this bug where when tinkering with the gfx options, the game doesn't update them after a couple of tries and you're stuck with shitty framerates which force you to close and re-launch the game ffs...
Bonus :
- No joypad vibration
- No language change/settings whatsoever

And yep, if this is how it runs on PC's, i can't imagine how it'll run on the XSX/XSS - they'll either butcher the graphics completely, or, we're gonna see a realllly amazing cinematic® framerate :D

They seem to have a pattern of undercooking their releases so it might be best to wait a few patches after go-live. That said the Vermintide games did eventually ripen into excellence so they have that pattern too.

Undercooking would be somewhat ok was it not that they've spent significant effort on pushing people towards microtransactions. Effort they could have spent on making the game better. For that, I kinda want the game to fail.

OK played last night after patch...

Do not buy, not right now...

Still too many issues to work out, give it a few weeks or months depending on how they solve it.

Also...

If you have a recent card with Ray Tracing capabilities it seems that parts of RT are stuck on no matter what you select in the options (because of course they are) resulting in massive preformance hits.

Oh the cash shop works perfectly though

Priorities.

The best thing is two of the sold armour sets are green... since where fighting nurgle cultists guess what colour the enemy is mostly using? Its a good thing they turned friendly fire off.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide reviewed by Kyle Campbell on PC, also available on Xbox.

This 40k follow-up to Fatshark's Vermintide games is one of the most entertaining co-op shooters since Left 4 Dead 2. That careful balancing act between multiple methods of murder is ceaselessly entertaining, especially while hatching diabolical plans with your buddies to silence whatever horrors lurk in Tertium's plague-ridden streets. Tedious between-mission progression and persistent framerate dips are the only things that can occasionally spoil that fun, which is a shame when Darktide otherwise nails virtually every fundamental of its genre.

Game is unplayable on game pass.

Start the game up and you get an error.

You have to manually start the game in the game folder to run the game to get past the error.

Also I can't get fast enough to complete a mission before the game crashes.

Playing on Gamepass. Only had one crash during gameplay, but that was during the first day.
You probably have some issue with your PC.
