Warhammer 40K Darktide big info dump

nice info dump from a guy who claims to have official connections with fatshark developers

i was going to post this in the darktide gameplay trailer thread but theres just too much new news, and i think its deserves its own thread. still tho, check out that thread to see tons of gameplay clips and info for darktide

highlights:
-new mission board
-lots of customization option for missions means there are around 10 different configurations of difficulty levels in the game
-the new mission board will help players easily find others in matchmaking, despite the large amount of customization options for missions
-missions will be less straight forward narrative (i couldnt exactly tell what he was tyring to say here, maybe someone else can explain it better...??? perhaps more like a "seasons" approach???).
-character customization
-character classes
-character class talents
-more emphasis on ranged weapons, both from our heroes and the enemy
-new "toughness" shield system to offset the addition of more ranged enemy types
-regeneration of toughness only occurs when your with your group, encouraging players to stick together
-movement will be different from vermintide 2: sprinting, vaulting, dodging, side stepping and sliding are all in to help avoid the new ranged enemy threats
-darker 40k world compared to vermintide 1 and 2
-levels/areas will be larger and more diverse, and will be able to support multiple missions using unique paths and mission objectives in those areas
-3 different enemy types units: roamers/hordes, elites and specials/monsters
-mission modifiers and different mechanics within mission to make sure no 2 runs are quite the same
-loot received upon completion of a mission
-less RNG for loot (FUUUCCKK YYEESSSS!!!!!)
-more ways to target the type of loot you want (heavy breathing)
-shop system that allows players to spend credits and get the stuff they want (ALL OVER ME!!!)

-contract system that you can utilize to set long term goals for gear you want to earn
-customizing weapon abilities and cosmetics is also returning
-customizing characters cosmetics returning
-players will always receive a new item upon a level up
-gear crafting is returning but it will be different (hopefully that means less RNG and more letting us customize our gear how we want)
-cosmetic will also be easier to hunt down, with less RNG bullshit
-clear distinctions between cosmetics earned and cosmetics bought (great news)
-"the mourning star" is much like "the keep" from vermintide 2, but will also serve as a social hub, supporting up to 20 players at one time

its looking to be quite different from V1 and V2, but still familiar at the same time. my hype level is pretty ridiculous right now. im not so crazy about rehashing levels and taking unique paths tho. it was pretty cool in back 4 blood, but i honestly think vermintide 2 did it best. all the levels were so unique and interesting, with their own self contained stories. still tho, less RNG in many areas of the game is a massive welcomed addition. im still hunting down cosmetics and gear in V2, and i probably would have to grind for at least another 1000-1500 hours to get all the weapons /cosmetics. and its mostly because its all RNG garbage. anyone who has tried to farm red weapons in V2 knows what im talking about. its utter bullshit.

cant wait for september!

Nice, I'm also looking forward to this. I like that we can customize our charter a little bit. Seems like the game will be similar but different enough as well. Also looks a lot better visually imho.

Vermintide was so good, Vermintide 2 was somehow even better. I'm SO hyped for this, I've been wanting their 40K take for what feels like forever. Doesn't look or sound like they're holding back, either Definitely going to buy the deluxe version, even though it's on Game Pass just to support them more so. 🤸🏻‍♂️

Is this likely to have much in the way of a story? I dig the 40k universe, but none of the games ever seem to really dig into the meat of the lore and the narrative.

Will this have a proper campaign?
I want to play something with the wife but also like for things to have a story, and not just running missions to level up.
Overall the game looks really good and a very good developer (though I haven't played Vermintide 2, perhaps might still be worth it).

if vermintide 1 and 2 are anything to go by, it will have a loose narrative with a begininng, middle and end, but not exactly what you would find in a story driven narrative. its more like left 4 dead where youre going from scene to scene and picking up story bits along the way through the objectives in missions and banter between heroes.

that being said, fatshark may have leaned heavier into telling a solid narrative with darktide, but if i had to guess id say itll be like left 4 dead and vermintide in in regards to story telling, or lack thereof.

Hyped for this. Looking good.

im watching this video right now however nd this guy is saying yes it will be more story heavy so 🤷‍♂️ i might be wrong!

Looks that way if you watch Skillups video. TLDW, one of the main lore writers for Warhammer (that's what he says i have no knowledge of the universe) has wrote all the story and lore for the game.

If it ends up having a proper story, I might well be tempted.

I think someone should do a proper narrative driven third person 40k game though. There's so much good stuff to plunder.

Oh man, I was waiting for this. Thanks!
Yeah he has some interesting perspectives but he’s a little off about some things and I suspect it’s bc he wasn’t a vermintide 1 and 2 fan. And other details about darktide, like saying the focus is more in shooting with melee only being used a little, is off as well. The devs have stated it’s more 50/50 between ranged and melee in darktide.

Just some observations. He had some other decent input but I chose the video I posted in the OP bc he had more knowledge of V1 and V2, and used several direct quotes from the devs and seemed to have more concrete info rather than conjecture.

By Him on Terra I'm hyped for this game!

For people wondering about the story, I doubt it will have much in the way of heavy narrative, but Dan Abnett is writing the lore for the game. Abnett is one of the superstar authors of the 40k universe, famous for the Eisenhorn series. Expect some glorious Inquisition fuckery.

I loved the previous Vermintides, so I expect good things from this new Fatshark game.
Can't wait to play it.

I'm curious about this. I've never seen them even mention it or that at all.

And honestly, with it existing in the previous games, I really don't understand why it wouldn't at launch.
There are only rumors from random Reddit users as far as I can tell from searching. Nothing official from fatshark yet

There won't be any bot support at launche. They have stated that before.
They never said that, just a recent German article mentioned the absence of bots. Which was corrected quickly by one of Fatshark's community managers on discord, who said that while the press build didn't have bots, that didn't mean there wouldn't be at launch.

~edit for the exact quote: "It's true the press build likely didn't have bot support; that does not mean live game won't have bots."

I hope crossplay comes relatively soon, unfortunately that is confirmed not for launch.
What is the state of this going to be at launch? Do all pc players match together or will they be split in a steam/gamepass type thing? or do all gamepass pc/console match together and steam is it's own? Was honestly expecting it to all just be 1 pool at launch, had plans to play with a couple of friends on xsx's and me and another friend on pc. Sounds like those plans have been shot to shit.

No idea on the PC specific questions. AFAIK neither of the Vermintide games had crossplay due to the console versions being gimped thanks to last gen's slow CPUs. SX/S and PS5 when the timed exclusivity drops are more than powerful enough for gameplay parity with PC, so I'm assuming crossplay is being put on the back burner for now since the game was already delayed.

Does this mean I can play fully solo without AI bots ala Redfall next year or is co-op required in order to play the game? If I can play fully solo without AI bots, that's a huge plus for me.

you would get slaughtered without AI bots, and all signs point to yes there will be bots upon release. that user youre qouting doesnt have a source

have you played left 4 dead? this is that type of game, and all it would take is one special to grab you and youre done if there isnt a bot around to help you get out of the grab

The way Vermintide works is it'll try to matchmake, but it'll fill with bots for any slots it can't find a human for. If someone drops out in the middle of a match they'll be replaced with a bot. No reason why they wouldn't carry that over to this.

no crossplay tho which is so stupid especially for a coop game like this
The studio has no experience with crossplay, given the differences between the console and PC Vermintide games. Given that it's already been delayed a year and a half I don't have a problem with a feature like this being pushed back to focus on getting the game out.

They said it's going to be something they work on.

this is the first game in this series that interests me as I find Warhammer 40K way more interesting that normal Warhammer, especially due to the weapon possibilities.

Never played Vermintide or Left 4 Dead. Basically though, you can play "solo" with AI bots. Not really my thing but I'll take a wait and see approach.

Sorry mate, beta is for PC only. Xbox doesn't even have a release date anymore. :(

Actually I've heard Xbox refunded all preorders a few weeks ago.
