Very cool game and enjoying the beta so far. Combat is solid.
I played their first game but not the second. Too bad this got delayed to late Novemeber, would have enjoyed playing it before the holidays.
The PC graphics settings are defnitely all over the place and I hope there is a performance guide for this when it launches. I think they partnered with Nvidia or something because I'm sure this game has settings to even crush a 4090.
My 3080 is weeping in the corner haha (4k with stuff maxed out though). You definitely want this game at 60 FPS with all the shit that is happening. It's absolute chaos and it's wonderful.

Nice game, had fun with it, some notes:

- Reminds me a lot more of L4D2 than Vermintide2.
-The dog, which is basically L4D2's hunter is a bit bullshit and you should have an option to pull yourself up
- Pretty poorly optimized, does not feel smooth with my 3080, without fully maxing out
- Block-push-hit move feels a bit awkward

1. I dunno man. It feels very much like Vermintide 2 to me. Guns are a bit more prevalent obviously, but the moment 2 moment gameplay & melee feels pretty much the same

2. Dog is annoying, I agree. Not only the dogs. The nets are too.

3. I thought the same at first. 4090 with 12900k here. This game can put my rig on its knee when I absolutely max out everything with native 4k. Thing is, the decals / corpse / decal time limit are the real performance killer. Leave them at their default high preset, use DLSS and enjoy the game. If you have a 3080, I assume you'll have to drop the settings a bit, but my point it's possible to have a locked or near locked 60 assuming you opitimize the graphic settings properly.

4. Feels about the same as in Vermintide 2, but I feel it's slower to recover and hit the enemies after pushing them back.

They better optimize this. No way a 3080 should be so choppy. Had like 9 crashes today in 30 minutes. Eventually gave up

Had many crashes too. I have to say, my crash all happened on the following conditions:

-Right after loading and entering a mission
-While changing graphical settings
- I also had disconnect from the hub while I was idling

Never crashed in the middle of a mission though.

Can a 40k fan comment on how much lore is on offer in the game?

Lore wise it solid, I would have FINALLY had an official in universe depiction of female Ogyrn's but sadly they decided male only.

The game takes place after the fall of Cadia but soon after, this means there are people that where alive and fought on cadia before the planet broke, if you select cadia as heritage they allow you to pick the purple eye colour associated with it. Nice attention to detail and lore accurate.

As for what the game gives you, it's a new sector on a new world in a new hive city, so there is no existing lore before this game in regards to what they can do. In terms of what they deliver its hard to tell from the beta. You have a few small conversations and the missions are themed around keeping the hive city production going to make sure the war effort does not falter. However there's not really much... all I can say is its incredibly immersive and certainly feels like your in 40k, all the conversations feel like there in universe mid mission and the voice actors do a stellar job.

Ive left the decals at default but its still not as smooth as I would expect for the graphics I am seeing on screen.

Not sure why it reminds me so strongly of L4D, it might be that the zombies are so similar to the horde in L4D, vs the rats in vermintide that felt very different.

Also:

- Where is the proper scoreboard to end the mission??
- Levels seem more boring than vermintide. I loved vermintides variety, going through open spaced woods, cities etc. This? I am in a dark building of sorts all the time

Variety is definitely lacking, reminds me of inquisitor martyr which has the same problem (though there were some outdoor areas).
The gameplay is good but not sure it will keep my attention the way outriders did. The upgrade system and variety needs to be there to make it all worthwhile to keep going. Also if there will be a sparse plot and no immersion I dunno. Part of the reason their earlier games didn't keep me invested for long.

In a beta you want to have as many scenarios as possible to test, if there were wildly different maps they would have likely showed some.

Also I am pretty sure they confirmed the whole game is indoors.
The beta was mainly to stress test their servers as they stated in the beta video released a couple of says ago.

Day 1 I had no issues. Yesterday I crashed 9 times in like 20 min. Same thing, trying to change any setting and then entering the mission

This has RT reflections and RTGI and both on max run at about 45fps on a 3080 at 1080p (dlss quality from 1440p). There are 2 options for RTGI, static and dynamic with 2 quality options for both. Dynamic low/high didn't seem differ in performance much but static doubled performance, I'm guessing static only does the GI for stationary lighting where dynamic does it for eveything like player flashlights, lights on grenades and fire from grenades etc. 2 options for reflections on and max, didn't notice much performance difference on either but I didn't test it real well.

edit: on a side note this precompiles shaders before playing aswell so there should be no stutter caused by shader comp.

Played a little more.
The gunplay and action is good, but I dunno, it's the same environments over and over, progression is slow, same enemies....eh
I was hoping this would be the outriders replacement but coming away feeling quite underwhelmed by this. The power fantasy here is a bit on the weak side, the co-op elements somewhat limited, and the design, while good, doesn't make me interested in the world or the lore.
I know it's a beta to test the network, so it's not the full picture. I also tried to find somewhere how abilities change over time and what is the full selection of weapons for each hero, can't seem to find this info. I am really hoping there is more than 1 selectable ability, and skills that actually make more changes to the game visually.
We'll see, definitely will wait until Nov 30th for final judgement but can't say I'm hyped. Probably more hyped for that Gotham game in co-op than this.

Played for a couple of hours. Decent game. Definitely going to get it on GP. Performance pretty good on my 3070. All good for a closed beta.

Game's running fine for me on medium with a 5600X and a 6700 XT. Had to fiddle with some settings to remove graphical artefacts (namely, changing TAA to FXAA), and for some weird reason the game runs better with all ray-tracing options on "true" in the config file.

Didn't have any crashes either; I've heard that some weapons (Catachan blades and/or Force Staff) could cause them for other players, this was apparently fixed pretty quickly... but only for newly-dropped weapons lol, previously obtained ones can still cause the issue. :messenger_smirking:

Played through all available missions once and that was already plenty of this game for me.
Yes it's just a beta, but what was there felt incredibly monotone.
Run in grey/brown room/corridor, kill everything, repeat.
If the final game doesn't have much more diversity in the environments I can't see myself touching this again.

Yep, same here. Although I was running at 4K, I managed to get the game running reasonably well by tweaking things. Just couldn't play for more than 10-15 mins without it crashing to desktop.
I had a skim through the Steam forums, and it looks like a lot of 30 series owners are experiencing the same issue so hoping the devs can iron out the bugs for launch. I enjoyed what little I got to play though.

3080 user here, game was not choppy on max all ourside of one area (unless Ray tracing was on then preformance uttely tanked to unplayable levels) so unsure what the issue is for some people.

2k resolution and was getting above 100 frames with a rare drop to 40-50 range when looking at certain part of the furnace level for some reason.

I mean they did advice to update to the latest drivers but with betas like this you expect the games to be unoptimised compared to the release day drivers.

I'm a bit sad about this. Been told the game plays almost exactly like vermintide. A 40k game without copious amounts of dakka saddens my soul

When is this game out?

Saw folks mention the performance issues were a thing so I'm wondering if my CPU won't be good enough to hit 60 on this one as I'm still using a 2700X. GPU is fine with it being a 3090 but just wanna know what CPU's everyone is using so I can get an idea on if I should bother.

People who say that probably haven't played much other than the two lowest difficulties then, ranged combat gets more and more prevalent the higher you go.

Yeah as a mainly ogryn player I had to really rely on my team for ranged enemies at difficulty 3-4 (didn't try 5).

A sniper can delete both my toughness and a whole bar of my HP, that is devastating and there is no counter I have. Heavy armoured melle also tends to stick around past difficulty 3, I need to see the glow of the phykers head pop or hear "ENGAGING CRITICAL TARGET!" to know I'm good, I think the issue right now is both primary ranged classes do not have access to ranged weapons (not counting the phyker staff, which I saw underused) that are effective in hoards, this gives players a false impression that melle is the bread and butter of the game, and it kind of is. However the importance of those accurate ranged attacks is so so important in high level play, you cannot do without it. As an ogryn I'm here to keep the horde at bay and slap some specials around but it takes ages to kill them especially if I'm not using the club, ripperguns can shred them but the reload is long and I don't have time when I'm up against a mix of elite ranged and 3 maulers + horde, I can't block during reload afterall.

I always have a sigh of relief when I see a marksman + phyker on my team as I know all my bases are covered, its like playing a completely diffrent game and if your not doing constant ranged attacks as either quite frankly your team mates arnt doing there job.

Well they played the beta a bit, nothing in depth. I would like for the reverse approach than with vermintide, with a 80% ranged and 20% melee combat. Yeah you have the elf, the dawwi with the cannons and the mage, but it's not the same as using a storm bolter.

New trailer featuring the ONLY class people should be interested in, essentially confirms the full Bullgryn loadout (which surprises me because I assumed they would be there own subclass) Grenadier gauntlets + Slabsheild's, no sight of the smaller suppression shields but would not be surprised if they show up later too.

they also released stats from the beta + announced anyone who preorders the game gets access to a new beta on the November 17th, if progress carries over to launch is up for discussion and they say they will update the community as soon as they have decided (vermintide 2's beta carried over) so potentially an early soft launch.

Looking forward to it either way, its been awhile since I had such fun in a game.

As spotted by PC Gamer, the official support website for Fatshark, the developer behind Warhammer 40,000 Darktide, reveals that the game will not feature cross-play or cross-progression at launch, without promising anything about it for the future.

The support page firmly rejects the ability to play Darktide with friends from other platforms and further clarifies that the studio cannot say when or even if the feature would ever be available in the game in the future. Things get even worse when you know that Darktide will not even allow a cross-play between Steam and Game Pass, which means those who buy the game on Steam can't team up with their friends who play through Game Pass. This is also referred to as something that may change in the future, but no promises for now.
