Warner Bros Producers Stand by Zack Snyder, Also Weigh in on DC Comics slate

I'm fairly ignorant. What role did Roven had?

Roven was sort of the main producer across the three DCEU films thus far. And to be fair, he was on Nolan's Batman films, as well. I believe Geoff Johns and Jon Berg now occupy that spot. Who is to say if it is a positive or negative change. I'm just saying.

They have to double down on Snyder considering the next movie is suppose to come out in November next year. You drop him now, and not only you'll have a media shitstorm, but you're gonna have to get a good director who's free right now for production if you wanna hit the release date, not to mention that considering with how every single damn movie of the DCU has come out, any competent director would refuse to work on whatever script they are giving them, so you're damned if do or damned if you don't. Just that their bottom line is gonna be more damned if they do kick him out.

When does this end though? They'll probably have future movies on the slate by then, so they'll need to either cancel everything or stick with him once more.

I feel like Harley after all of Joker's abuse.

Only so many cinematic disappointments until we're all like...

If Wonder Woman is bad, I'll be fucking broken.

Snyder is terrible, but as long as his movies make money they'll stick with him.

That's not how this works. You can't continually underperform with IP's that are this important. Batman vs Superman should have made way more money than it did.

Making a little bit of money is a failure when you are working with properties that should be making a ton of money.

I'm just hoping for another Man of Steel-like movie at this point. Great, unrivaled action with an ok story
Neither BvS or SS gave me that

Yeah but I doubt Snyder is heavily involved in Flash and Aquaman, the movies following JL, so those won't be affected that much.

Definitely. I enjoyed BvS UC and Suicide Squad but if Wonder Woman gets bad reviews as well then they might as well just call it quits after JL.

They make money... but BARELY. Didn't BvS need to crack 900 million just to break even?

The fact that Zack Snyder made a BATMAN versus SUPERMAN movie with the first live-action cinematic appearance of Wonder Woman, in an age where billion-dollar films are increasingly common, it would have to TRY and fail to not make a billion... and yet it didn't.

Zack Snyder directed a bad movie, but they're sticking with him.

I wonder if they come from the same school of thought as "Superman needs to fight a giant spider" producer Jon Peters, or if Snyder actually has some sort of serious blackmail dirt on them or something.

I don't even dislike the guy but... he's just a really poor fit for DC's universe.

I don't think Snyder will do JL2, if for no other reason other than I just can't see him roll into his fourth DC movie in six years (and fifth in 10 years!). The guy is probably gonna want a break and do something else.

Could be moot if they delay JL2 a year or so, which I expect will happen anyway.

Just because you claim you can do humor doesn't mean you should. But then again I liked the serious tone of BvS so what do I know.

If anything he'll guide the universe but yeah, regardless of how JL does he'll probably be done directing anything DC related.

They're unlikely to trash him in public so don't take these comments as being more than a diplomatic effort, but if Justice League bombs with critics and doesn't make the tremendous bank WB want it to, Snyder is probably getting kicked the fuck out the door.

Looking forward to Disney money/talent taking over DCEU.

Then Disney will be our geek overlords.

I'm in the opposite camp. I like the idea of director-driven super hero flicks. It worked with Nolan and Batman. Plus characters like Amanda Waller (just as an example) would be neutered due to Disney constraints.

Like WB is really gonna say "yeah its all his fault, fuck him!" publicly. No, they'll just quietly replace him and make him say he chose to step down because he "wants to go in a different direction" or some other thin BS.

Hard to do that when he's the guiding force of their entire universe though.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Zack Snyder is a good director though - Dawn of the Dead, 300 and Watchmen prove as much.

The problem lies in his storymaking skills:

Batman v Superman (co-wrote story)
Suckerpunch (co-wrote story & screenplay)
300: Rise of an Empire (co-wrote story & screenplay)
Wonderwoman (co-wrote story)

He's terrible in a writing and creative capacity; however give him a proper script and good counseling, and he delivers. In essence, he shouldn't be the voice and creative vision of the DC slate and that chair should be shared with other folks.

False. He hasn't touched the screenplay.

Apologies you are right, he co-wrote the story, not the screenplay. Copy paste function, forgot to take it off.

The root of the problem though still remains with Snyder...

I never understood this "Disney constraints" criticism.

A few certain deaths in Civil War really got under my skin too.

The MCU has rapists, crime lords, genocide, and plenty of horrible, ugly, no-good-rotten-scoundrels and many traumatic and often horrific deaths. I don't think Marvel really is in the habit of "constraining" their more hard-edge characters. If they're too intense for mainstream Avengers, they're more than happy to give them a spotlight on Netflix.

And the MCU films thrive on the director-touch Marvel selects. Avengers is so perfectly Whedon-esque, while Thor has many hallmarks of Kenneth Branaugh, Guardians of the Galaxy is pure James Gunn, and Joe Johnston was the perfect choice for Captain America: First Avenger, and Iron Man 3 is arguably the most Shane Black film Shane Black has ever made. Their fingerprints are all over these films.

I've never seen the Netflix shows but their movies have always felt a bit too safe for me. Even Winter Soldier and Civil War, even though they're arguably the more "dark" Marvel movies they're still PG 13 family friendly movies.

Fair enough, I still think Man of Steel is the best DC movie since The Dark Knight.

Dark Knight rises even with it's flaws is better than mos...

Mos is loud garbage. Dkr is at least a film with themes and characters and plot

That's Marvel just leveraging their more PG-13 characters. I mean... it's Spider-man and Captain America and Iron Man, etc.

I'd say something like Guardians of the Galaxy is more hard-edged, though, and benefit from being more obscure thus James Gunn got away with a lot more "hard" content (from language to sexual innuendo to plenty of other things that made a few adults in the audience gasp).

But you haven't seen the Netflix stuff? Good lord, see if you can remedy that, ASAP. Those shows get SOOOO dark and disturbing, but also supremely well done. Punisher alone in Daredevil Season 2 is worth it. That prison fight still haunts my dreams.

I know they're good and probably better than most of the shows on CW but I'm a DC fan, I'm honestly just not all that motivated to watch them.

With Edgar Wright being perfect for Ant-Man :'(

There is no opposite camp, Disney is never taking over DC, and Wb can be as director driven as they want as long as it turns out good films. I dont care who isn't being 'neutered' if the film is crap. No one does.

They need to just make decent movies. Not look at Disney, or point out their contrast to them, or even MENTION them. Disney is doing their own thing as its working, WB needs to get their shit together.
