Was Horse_ebooks/Pronunciation Book the most elaborate videogame promo stunt?

Horse_ebooks was a twitter created by a Russian spammer. It took little fragments of the books and then tweeted them out along with a clickbank affiliate link. Eventually it caught the attention of weird twitter, tumblr and news sites as they posted/retweeted some of the weirder tweets you can see here: http://favstar.fm/users/horse_ebooks which led to the account having 190,000+ followers.

Pronunciation Book was a YouTube channel that pronounced words and the occasional phrase for people and nothing else. Just your regular informative channel where a person could find out how to pronounce the names of the guys in One Direction to Saoirse, Ulysses, tsundere and everything in between. Nothing to strange; every so often a weird video would pop out (and they were all early hints to the games' characters or stories), like how to refuse drugs or pronouncing how to ask for help, but suddenly this video came out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouiDKPYV_zI and it continued for 77 days until culminating in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_HaMlLJ7Jk

Both accounts ended with a link to this site & FMV game: http://www.bearstearnsbravo.com/

Never played it, but it had me wondering if any other game has ever had something so elaborate in an attempt to promote it.

I think ilovebees will probably be the eternal king as far as ARG-style promotion for video games goes.

When ILB was happening it was cool as hell because no one knew what was going on or what they were going to do. The fact that they called up actual payphones and had real people on the other line was pretty mindblowing at the time.

I was following that countdown religiously way back when.. What a let down.. But the game was still kind of funny. Still wanted to unlock the next chapter.

I think I remember this on
/x/
. I was getting legit antsy for the countdown and the excerpts did seem ominous.

And it was nothing.

It was a video game. It was art.

but yeah, it was kind of a letdown. but idk what could have lived up to the expectation behind that and I've yet to play BSB, but the countdown seemed like it would lead to something more ominous than a game about a financial crash. but maybe it's dark or something.

I dunno, but I nominate 4infinity.co for the longest and most tedious, spill the beans already!

I thought that was a really crass ending to horse_ebooks. Would have preferred for it to carry on unblemished. Weird twitter never recovered :c
