Was the rumoured Switch Pro actually Switch 2 all along?

This is like analyzing the PS4 and asserting that it was really ready to go when the Jaguar chip was designed. Thereby proving...something I guess. To drive it home, let's analyze PS4 Pro and say that was ready lol.

We are getting an iteration of what Switch Pro would have been in 2021. The system setup and GPU features aren't the same.
 
I don't think it was the chip for the Switch Pro, but I do think they stretched the Switch's lifespan as much as they could and in the end they used that 4-year-old chip in the successor because it was the cheapest and fastest.
 
I think most of Nintendo's plans were shifted first by C19 impacting software production and chip availability and later due to unexpectedly high sales of the S1.

In an alternative universe we probably would have had a pro model in 2021 and S2 in 2024.
 
It's clear as day the covid induced silicon shortages and ballooning prices spooked the fuck out of the miser Kings of the industry who were absolutely terrified of having to pay and compete for 5nm/4nm or even 3nm wafers on a real next gen design, so we get the half decade delayed Switch Pro instead.
 
No. Two seperate things.

Switch 2 was happening regardless of what they decided to do with a possible Switch Pro.

Someone who remembers better than me can chime in, but I thought there was some kind of X2 Tegra chip in the works that got cancelled due to Covid. We also got rumors later on about the Switch 2's chip but it would have been far too late for the Pro, we just didn't know it was for the next gen console yet.
 
Switch Pro was the Switch OLED all along.

I called bs on the SWitch Pro thing the entire time. Then when that proved correct no one cared and/or they resorted to conspiracy theories.
 
They may have developed a switch pro but decided not to release it. Switch 2 was the plan. What comes next is beyond me.
 
Switch Pro was never a thing. Since that is the case, I think it is possible that the Switch Pro rumors were just bits about the Switch 2 and Switch OLED that leaked out and were wrongfully touted as a Pro.

Absolutely not, quite the opposite actually. Not all the games work, the ones that do work are basically simulating a Switch 1, and the one with a patch see significant (aka a generational) upgrade.

Tegra X2 was released a year after the X1. I don't know if Nintendo was ever planning a Switch with it. It's possible. I am not sure what type of upgrade it was over the X1 as it was not really used in general consumer devices.

BS, all games got better load times, and just like pro consoles, some games requires patches to take advantage, some don't. Just look at the type of upgrades games got with the release of others pro consoles, and they will be similar.

By this logic the PS5 and XSX were both just pro upgrades. Lots of games got better performance or reduced loading times, some got patches to look better or unlock fps, others didn't.

Nope. All games that got upgrades were the same we saw PS4 games running on PS5 (better resolution, framerate up to 60fps, better loading times, etc).

You don't have Zelda running at 60fps with just a pro version. No PS4 Pro runs open world games at 60fps.

PS5 did pretty much the same thing with PS4 games. Normal games ran better and there were optional "upgrades" to play the PS5 version for a reduced amount of money.
 
This is a generational leap. All you need to know is pop a cart from the Switch into the Switch 2 and watch the benefits roll in.
