Switch 2 pro controller

Wait you can use your old Pro controller?

This is a selling point of Switch 2.

With Switch 1 I had to buy 2 pro controllers day 1 which raised the price considerably.

For me the Switch 2 will cost the same or less than Switch 1 because I don't have to fork over hundreds for new controllers. That is a masterful decision. I would have expected Nintendo to only allow Nintendo controllers. I don't fuck with 3rd party controllers unless I'm in handheld mode. I don't give a fuuuuuucckkkk about the triggers either. Biggest nothingburger ever. Switch pro controller was right behind ps5 and lightyears ahead of fucking my xsx with its rattly poorly offset analog stick different due to copyrights AA battery bullshit.

SW1 Pro Controller will not turn on the Switch 2 though, otherwise it works fine.

Yeah. This is annoying tbh. I keep getting all comfy on the couch then have to get up to turn the machine on. A bit naff really

Thankfully the GameCube controller will turn the Switch 2 on, but for some reason they didn't include a minus button. I'll get a SW2 Pro Controller eventually, but I'll wait for a sale or a themed version.

The pro controller for the switch 2 just feels like a high end device. Wonderful feel, like silk in your hands. The single piece, as opposed to the several piece switch 1 pro, has a much better feel to it. Back buttons are a nice touch as well.

Issue I have, is that once again, the dpad is inaccurate as hell. I press down, it goes right. Same with up. Pisses me off for the price.

Same crap with the switch 1 pro.

Yours must be broke as the d-pad is far and away better than the original that has massive dpad issues.

Yeah, I'm pretty picky with d-pads, but my experience with the Switch 2 Pro Controller has been great. I've had precisely no issue with accuracy in a game like Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S, and I remember the original Pro Controller being a complete piece of shit for the first PPT on Switch. It all seems very responsive, too - I'm not sure if anyone's done any real input lag testing, but it's subjectively felt really good in the S2 games I've played so far. The whole controller feels really good - already one of my favorites.

So yeah - definitely return yours, Kingmoku. It sounds like there's a problem.

Well, this news is making me feel better, as ver 2 of the controller feels sublime.

Switch 2 system features aside (the back compat. upgrades you get from just loading up an old game have been amazing) this was a big surprise for me.

I loved the switch 1 pro controller and just assumed it would be more of the same OR they would mess something up...but no. For me this is a complete upgrade over the switch 1 pro controller. The sticks feel sublime, the buttons have just enough resistance, and the d-pad feels like it was completely retooled (I don't know if this is true, have not taken it apart yet).

I understand the complaints on the price, but personally, I have paid far more for vastly inferior hardware (looking at you nacon revolution 5 pro....you POS).

Switch 2 Pro controller is leagues better than og Switch Pro controller

I expected pretty much the same - though the original was just "ok"

But this feels premium and way better in every single way from buttons, to mateiral and especially the sticks

I liked the pro controller 2, but still preffer the dualsense - symmetric > asymmetric imo.
Didn't liked the GL/R position. When things get intense I 'squeeze' (for lack of a better word) the controller and press them...
Hope some chinese guy make some super famicom themed buttons so I can customize mine, the same way I did with my pro controllers 1.

Has there been any official statements about this or anything? I'm hoping it's just a bug and not a planned incompatibility.
Honestly it should be fixable with a firmware update. My 8bitdo Ultimate controller (which I used with OLED Switch for years) wouldn't pair at all with Switch 2 until I did the firmware update

Definitely not a bug. Nintendo confirmed this would be the case back when we first found out about which peripherals would work and not.

I have no idea why though.

Hmm, I wonder… The Switch 2 pro controller seems to be sold out everywhere in the UK, while the cheaper-but-gimped Switch 1 version is widely available, so it's working out great for them.

Just seems like a strange thing to me. Like, if you want the Switch 2 Pro Controller over the original the thing that will sway you is hardly that it can turn on the Switch 2?

I'm assuming it's something to do with the new Bluetooth LE (low energy) that the 2 has. It broke stuff in terms of compatibility, but the benefits outweigh the negatives as it's got decently less power usage for using it and stand-by time. One example is that the Xbox Series controllers no longer work with the old 8bitdo adapter because of the Bluetooth LE update the Xbox controllers had. They had to put out a new adapter that supported Bluetooth LE.

What I'm guessing is that they have a fall back mode when the joy-con 1's/Pro controller are connected but doesn't support the new wake-on-bluetooth protocol.

All assumptions of course, but it honestly makes sense.

It's swaying me! I'd like a proper controller to play Mario Kart, but I don't want to fiddle around for the tiny power button on the console. Nothing else in my TV stand requires getting up to turn it on (also my Switch 2 had to be hidden behind a massive TV).

I guess there's also the Switch 2 branding and the chat button, but it's otherwise functionally identical to the Switch 1 pro controller, for a 50% markup.

But why wouldn't you just use the JoyCon2 for turning on the system in this case and then just use the Pro Controller in play. It's not like you will only have the Pro Controller and you'll be forced to use the power button on the actual system.

There are two extra back-buttons that are programmable for every game on a system level, a headphone jack, and "HD Rumble 2.0" as well. And supposedly the gyro is more responsive/snappy. Imo it's a pretty nice upgrade. But I definitely wouldn't have picked it up if the only thing they "added" over the original was the ability to turn on the Switch 2.

I'd imagine if you have a superior separate controller to hand, the joycons would be attached to the console most of the time when it's docked. Keeping them out just to use them as a power button seems a bit odd.

Those are features I'm not really interested in, but the power button thing is putting me off getting a Switch 1 pro controller instead. Anyway, I'll just wait for the Pro 2 to come back in stock.
