Was there an Xbox live update about 8 hours ago?

Was playing some Halo 2 and this guy on my friends list sent a message to all saying "There is an xbox update from 2 till 4, could be the (halo 2 cheat fix etc) patch." I'm at work so I can't investigate, any halo 2 differences anyone? Please let it be true, nothing on bungie.net, but maybe they are seeing if it actually works... hoping for DLC is probably to good to be true.

Looked like just a server maintenance. The stats went back to 1 for some time, then were restored to normal.

damnit. still could be it. somebody go play some halo 2 team skirmish, you will know if it's fixed if you don't get cheated on within 6 seconds!

This was more than 8 hours ago, but I was playing last night at around 9pm pacific, and a couple guys playing against us tried using the standby cheat and managed to get themselves dropped from the game.

I'd never seen that happen before, and was wondering if the network code was updated to detect connection drops, or if they were just really bad at using the standby cheat :lol

I think the deal is that it's easier to standby cheat if you are the host. I sometimes see connection droppers when they are on attack and wonder as well. But standby still works as of yesterday unfortunately, not sure about after this update though.

You have to be host to use stand-by pretty much. Otherwise you get dropped.
There are ways of increasing your chance to be host drastically, however...

Yeah we've been trying that to avoid getting cheated, haven't been cheated in a while but I'm not sure I can actually tell whether or not you are host.

The longer Bungie/MS let the cheating go on for, the worse peoples' perceptions will be of Xbox live and Halo 2. I thought Live was supposed to help prevent cheating :(

Yup, it went down earlier today. I was playing Pro Evolution when everything just died. Then when Live got up again I saw that I got a loss for that match. Talk about stupid, it's not my fault Live suddenly dies.

Yeah yeah cry me a river ^^
