Now, they might be doing the same — just without the mandate from the president.

"I think they will do so with much more enthusiasm after today," said Figueres.

Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York, Governor Jerry Brown of California, and Governor Jay Inslee of Washington announced the formation of the United States Climate Alliance after the announcement, stating that they would convene states committed to upholding the Paris Agreement and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Blue states deserve this. WA state is pretty fucking wealthy and usually runs a surplus as far as I understand. I don't know anything about the intricacies or how difficult it would be to do something like this so I'm probably talking up my ass, but it would be fucking great if we could set an example and show the rest of this country what's possible.

New York State has the Independent Democratic Caucus (conference?) the exact amount of state senators that are required to prevent a Democratic Majority in the Senate. The IDC is supported by Cuomo so he does not have to actually pass liberal legislation and has a divided legislator to play off of.
